This year I have been on a real mission to clear out half used products from my beauty cupboard and try and use anything up before it’s gone bad. One of the areas of my collection that has always been quite under control is cleansers as I’ve always been good at starting and finishing them, or finding alternate ways to use them if I don’t love them on my face. So I have just been digging to the back of my cupboard for new but forgotten products to clear out, and the Beauty Bay Prebiotic & Avocado Oil Cleansing Gel came top of my list to test out.
The Beauty Bay Prebiotic & Avocado Oil Cleansing Gel I believe is the only skincare item that I’ve purchased from Beauty Bay, which is now a place I very rarely place order from. I believe one of the times I wanted to place an order I was trying to hit a free delivery threshold and this was thrown in whilst on offer to take me over the limit instead of paying for delivery. Beauty Bay have since changed the packaging of this but from what I can see and tell online, the ingredients of the two are still the same, it’s just been a bottle and name change from the Super Jelly Cleanser.

I’ve now been using this the past few months and I’ve made it around two thirds of the way through the bottle, so have some thoughts.
The texture is a gel-cream formula that is quite light feeling. I find massage this onto dry skin tends to be the best way for this as it’s already quite a wet formula that when the skin is wet it slips around a little too much and is easier to massage in when dry. It breaks down makeup okay, but struggles with mascara and liner which I find even with a face halo to remove, needs a second cleanse to remove any lingering signs of panda eyes. My skin does feel soft and nourished afterwards.
When it comes to cleansers I look for an all rounder that can ideally do it all in one step. Normally when I am taking off makeup I want to just crawl into bed so it becoming a multistep routine is not for me as it will put me off doing it and taking the lazy route. So a cleanser that can strip my make up, leave it feeling clean and ideally nourished is what I am looking for. I am most drawn to balms, but then followed by gel creams like this.
To be fair to this cleanser in it’s description it doesn’t describe itself as a makeup removing cleanser, so it does do a good job when it’s main claims are to refresh, rebalance, cleanse and revitalise. Which to be fair to the cleanser, it does do well.
I have cleansers in 2 different places in my home, the shower and the sink. Ones that go into the shower, I generally think aren’t the best all round cleansers and I use them when I am in the shower, which tends to be when I am already fresh faced and I just want to refresh my face to refresh whilst there.
I like the Beauty Bay Prebiotic & Avocado Oil Cleansing Gel but don’t love this, but it’s that additional round of cleansing that makes me not love it and want to relegate it to the shower, but I am making do and trying to use it up, so I can move back to my all time favourite the Augustinus Bader Cleansing Balm. But for the price of £7.50, if you’re looking for a cleanser that’s budget friendly and like that gel-jelly formula.
