Well, we’re blowing off dust on laptop and camera for one of my favourite pieces of Mail – The Beauty Drop October 2023 from Liberty. If you have not heard about the Beauty Drop yet, it comes from luxury department store Liberty – based in London. Where this differs a little from the norm is that you pay a £20 fee every month which adds up to credit within your account to spend, and the quarterly boxes that arrive are a nice added little bonus which allows you to try some different things from the range.
I really enjoy the concept of this box as it means I can try brands I might not normally have looked at – but I use my credit towards more expensive purchases such as perfumes and expensive shower gels and it doesn’t feel as much as splurge. Recently Lisa Eldridge has joined the lineup (which I must admit I was hoping to see in this box to celebrate), and I have yet to try the brand so I am eyeing up a lipstick from the brand to try with some of my built up credit. Let’s take a look at what was inside The Beauty Drop October 2023…
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream – 7ml Deluxe
This was personally the best and worst item in the box for me – I work for Augustinus Bader and I have a small mountain of The Rich Cream at all times in the house, so I didn’t really need this however I have long been saying I’d like to see AB featured in the box, so I am happy to see we’re finally in it!
The best selling moisturiser that’s won countless awards, this is a fab inclusion to introduce people to the brand, that 7ml is a really decent sample size and one I wish actually I had had a few weeks ago when I travelled to Hamburg for a long weekend as it would have been a perfect size to last me the trip. That sample is a good 7-10 uses and has a really decent value of around £32.
Granado Boemia Perfume – 25ml Deluxe
A good size perfume sample is always going to catch my eye and this is a super generous 25ml. This has a very specific backstory, noting that it “evokes the lively, bohemian atmosphere of the Lapa neighbourhood in 20th century Rio de Janeiro”. Interestingly the card describes this as fresh and light but my first impressions were quite the opposite – with a heady warm spice at the base and a quick spritz on the back of my hand saw it linger with some punch for the rest of the day. This isn’t my favourite type of scent reminding me of something like Chanel No 5, which is quite far away from my floral and gourmand preferences. So I may give this a few wears and see how I feel, but I may pass this onto my Mum if I don’t love this after a few tries as it seems like more of her cup of tea.
At £110 for a full size 75, this is a really decent value at £36. My only criticism of this is that every perfume we receive through the box seems to be the same kind of scent, maybe it’s the type that the Liberty audience prefer, but it would be nice to mix it up with different fragrance families as so far I am yet to sample a fragrance through the box that I would repurchase.
Manucurist Huile Verte Nail & Cuticle Oil – 15ml Full Size
A nice and different inclusion, we see a lot of hand creams in the box, so it was good to get a different type of hand care in the box. I am traditionally, terrible at remembering to use hand creams and items like this so I am going to place this somewhere fairly prominent and hope that I begin to use this. My cuticles do get regular care as I do get my nails done, but I should be moisturising them more than I do. With an upcoming trip to Iceland, I am expecting my hands to be battered by the weather, so this may be packed away with me for an extra dose of care. This is a full size which comes in at £14.
111Skin Rose gold Facial Treatment Mask – Full Size
Tucked right at the bottom of the box was this sheet mask from 111 Skin. A brightening hydrogel treatment mask which says it plumps, smoothes and tightens leaving the skin looking luminous. When I saw this I thought, this looks like another handy thing to pack for Iceland in case I need an extra dose of moisture after some long hard days exploring I may need a face mask to pick me up, but I may actually save this for a special occasion and when I want my skin to look extra fab. As yet again another high value inclusion at £20 a pop! I’ve had a fair few 111Skin samples over the years in various boxes and advent calendars and always enjoyed what I’ve had.
Liberty Compact Beauty Mirror & Pouch
This is the first time we’ve seen something like this from this box included. The pouch and mirror feature The Beauty Drop floral print and is a nice compact size. Personally, rather than a pouch I wouild have rathered a mirror with a lid that fully encloses as the pouch feels like it will just slip open. The mirror itself is nice quality, but the pouch has been stitched a little clumsily. A nice addition, but personally doesn’t add much value to the box to me.
From my time reviewing My Little Box, it reminds me of the kind of items that would be included monthly from those, which soon built up into a pile of rubbish once the good ideas ran dry, so I hope that Liberty manage to keep up with good quality and useful items if they continue to include an item like this going forward as they soon start to feel like filler when you pop them to the back of the cupboard.
Final Thoughts on The Beauty Drop October 2023
So, what do I think of this quarters edition? Overall, pretty happy with the Beauty Drop October 2023 box, I think I’d always prefer to have bigger size items that I can really understand if I like or not than smaller samples. All of these are pretty high-value items that total up (not including the mirror) to be worth around £100, which for “free” – is pretty good! I’m a little disappointed that there’s no makeup in the box, which has been a running theme I believe through all of the boxes this year, which I get – it’s maybe going to suit fewer people, but it’s always a way to get me into a brand to discover.
From the next box, I’m hoping to see maybe a sample from the teased new launch from Liberty of their own perfumes launching soon, something from Lisa Eldridge, more from Davines or Ouai as we’ve had had much in terms of haircare recently and I always want to try more from Byredo which we’re yet to see anything from in the boxes.
