Welcome to the second post in my lockdown empties edit, yesterday we talked all things haircare but in this one we’re talking makeup and fragrance. A shorter post this time as whilst I’ve been treating myself to wearing perfume through lockdown it’s been rare that I’ve worn makeup, so there’s only a small handful of products that I’ve managed to finish up over the past 6 months!
Fragrance
18 x Secret Scent Box Vials [Gifted]
Through lockdown I’ve been using mostly the stash of secret scent box vials that had been building up and I’ve turned away from my full size perfumes. I’d normally discuss them all in brief, but we would be here all day with all of these. Standout favourites have been the Agent Provacateur, Banana Republic Peony and Blackpepper, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess and Calvin Klein Eternity Summer.
Jennifer Lopez Promise Perfume [Gifted] Review
This was a last minute addition to my empties, I was going to be putting it into my products I’m trying to use up post which I’ve started working on and it surprised me when I reached for it to find it was at it’s last use! This was nice for every day and kind of “generic” a good perfume for if you don’t like things too sweet, floral or dark – a good “office” perfume for something unoffencive.
Repurchase? No, it was nice enough but not my usual jam
Shay and Blue White Peaches 10ml Review
I reviewed this back in February and I think I finished this up around about 6 weeks ago. I liked this as I like peachy scents, but this one wasn’t as good as others I have tried in the past! I did enjoy it layered with more floral perfumes.
Repurchase? No probably not
Makeup
Stila Magnificent Metals in Rose Gold Retro [Review]
This was the first Magnificent Metal that I got and it started a true obsession! I’ve used this until I can’t scrape the barrel anymore. This is probably my second favourite shade I have and I found that it looked fabulous in summer with a really warm tone. Top tip if you have these as they do dry out after time is to use a bit of setting spray to spritz into the bottle and give it a mix up, I’ve had this for much longer than I should admit and have managed to finish it to the end by doing this.
Repurchase? Yes, but I’d like to finish a few others off first.
Hourglass Caution Mascara (Mini) [Review]
I purchased this on my birthday in February and it’s been my mascara of choice up until a few weeks ago. When I came to review this I thought it was okay, but it definitely got better with age hitting a peak around the 2 month mark. I’ve heard from others that have had the full size of this that it can dry out, but considering I used this mini a few times a week since February until July… I think it lasted pretty well.
Repurchase? Maybe in future, there’s a few other mascaras I have my eye on to try (the new Pat McGrath one sounds very interesting!)
Fenty Flyliner [Review]
I was recommended this by my friend Molly and it didn’t disappoint, I’ve had this since September last year and it’s only just started to dry out a little. I found the nib easy to control and definitely felt like I got my monies worth out of this. I did find it lacked a little more pigment than I would like but it only was really noticeable on brighter shadows where it had bold colours to contend with.
Repurchase? Maybe! I would recommend it and if I needed a liner and wasn’t familiar with others available to buy I would pick it up again.
Wet N Wild Megaglo Highlighter in Precious Petals [Review]
I think this is the best budget highlighter available, it’s such a gorgeous shade and cost me only a few pounds when they first released in the UK. They’ve crept up a few pounds over the past 18 months or so and now cost about £5, still very pocket friendly. The packaging is a bit flimsy and does let it down a little, but overall for the price I can’t complain.
Repurchase? Yes, but not immediately as I have a lot of highlighters to use
Elf Mineral Primer [Gifted by Superdrug]
I have used another ELF primer before and was very underwhelmed – this one was better but it felt very silicone-y for something called a mineral primer. I found it smoothed my skin out quite nicely and often wore it a one to mattify my skin and smooth out pores but I didn’t find makeup layered all that well on top of it or helped improve longevity.
Repurchase? Nope!
Have you been wearing much makeup through lockdown or did you mostly abandon it like me? Let me know if you’ve tried any of these in the comments below, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

The mini Hourglass mascara lasted well! So many people rave about the Wet n Wild highlighters, I tend to gravitate more towards highlighters that aren’t from the drugstore, I only own a couple that are drugstore prices and I don’t think the finish is as nice on my skin.

Me too, to be honest there’s very little that I really concentrate on the drugstore for, there might be the odd gem lurking but I find myself mostly uninterested in drugstore offerings and would rather pay more for something that interests/excites me – these wet n wild highliighters are a total gem though, as nice as the Becca Highlighters, the only thing that lets them down is flimsy packaging, but for the price it can be forgiven!
Becca do beautiful highlighters, so smooth and they look lovely on the skin 😍
