Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm Review

Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm

I don’t know why but Pixi has never been a brand that I’ve tried that much from, but the stuff I have tried from them I have really enjoyed. A couple of months back I was given a voucher my local shopping centre to take part in a beauty shopping challenge with the idea of pampering. I went off on the hunt for Pixi’s Double Cleanse from Caroline Hirons, but sadly it wasn’t stocked in my local M&S so I ended up picking up this, the Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm instead. I’ve been putting it to the test for the past month or so now.

Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm review

The first thing that struck me about this was just how light it was. Unlike other Cleansing Balms i’ve tried this comes in a pretty thin plastic walled pot. Compared to the likes of Cliniques Take the Day Off it doesn’t feel as luxe to hold and makes you misleadingly think there’s not much product in it, but on the same hand it’s a better weight for travelling. But at £18 I think I would normally expect something slightly more luxe feeling, it just feels a bit cheap.

The three core ingredients are made up of Sweet Almond Oil which contains essential minerals for healthier skin, Cocoa Butter, an Antioxidant that’s rich and healing and Shea Butter which nourishes deeply. The trio are all known for moisturising the skin too and it’s a very luxurious feeling balm, albeit a little hard. One thing I was surprised about with that ingredients list was the scent, it’s basically unscented – maybe verging on a little waxy – but with Shea and Cocoa Butter, and Almond Oils you’d expect for this to have a comforting warmth to it.

The top layer look at this is very solid – you can almost knock on it without it creating a dent. Compared to other balms I’ve tried i have to drag my nail through with real pressure to be able to get any out to use.  When you start massaging down into the skin the heat of your face and hands do start to easily melt it down but it does feel heavier, and oilier on the skin – which isn’t a bad thing as it does break down makeup really easily.

The only issue that I have with the Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm is because it’s so thick and heavy feeling it requires a real hot water to be able to rinse it away – so much so I’ve tended to use this pre-shower to be able to rinse it away in the easiest possible way. The effort of this is worth it as the skin feels incredibly soft and nourished afterwards. Whilst I’m oily I think this would be a fantastic product for dry skins. And it has left me curious to try the Double Cleanse (although I have heard mixed reviews). Annoyingly this may not make my empties as I’m about halfway through the pot and I think I left it at the hotel where I had my work Christmas party, which I’m kicking myself over as I was absolutely loving how my skin was feeling thanks to it. So unless it makes a miraculous reappearance it might be one I’ll go back to in future!

Have you tried Pixi and what are your favourites if so?

I feel the same way about Pixi! I’ve loved the products I’ve tried, but I don’t try that much stuff from them. I think it’s because for them being drugstore, they can be a bit pricey compared to other brands. I haven’t tried this one, but I have tried the double cleanse. I really liked it, but I’m just so lazy I’d rather use a cotton pad with micellar water.

It’s funny because here it’s not positioned as a drugstore brand at all, it’s higher price point shops and department stores that stock it, but for that reason it’s rare I come across their products to test anything out before I buy!
I think I will try double cleanse it sounds like something I would like!

I’ve literally never tried anything from Pixi at all!
Leaving stuff in hotels is literally THE worst xxx

It is – especially when you actually really like something! I’ve lost my bioderma bottle and I’m wondering if that’s where I left that as well! I’m back in work today and I’m going to nip up at lunch time and see if they kept it!

I’m with mariiacano—I’ve never tried anything from Pixie because it’s from a drugstore and pretty damn pricey. The elixir of ingredients has me intrigued and I’ll have to check this product out. My skin is combination normal to dry; because I live in a hot climate, if I don’t moisturize properly my skin secretes extra oil to compensate for its dryness. I think this balm might help. Thx for sharing! 💕

Se here it’s not a drugstore brand at all! We can only get it in fancier department stores or online – but for that reason I’m rarely in those stores to look in the range.
This one might be worth checking out I think it would be great for dry skins!

I most definitely will scoop up some products on my next Target run. 😬

Great post! I have never tried their products, but I see them everywhere! I will have to pick up a few of the products and give them a try. Are there any other products from them you recommend?

I really haven’t tried much – especially in terms of skincare the only things I’ve tried are Glow Tonic (which I didn’t find harsh enough, the Ordinary’s worked better and was a lot cheaper) and a lip scrub! A lot of the makeup I’ve tried and liked is now discontinued!

        Ok! Thanks for the help!

I think that I’ve only tried one of the facial masks – the blue one – I think it might be the glow mask? I liked it.

I was thinking to try out Pixi while target had the BlackFriday sale, but I was really not sure what I should try out first. After reading your review, I think I will try out this balm first. It is a big jar and I like thicker balm. 😉

Thank you for a great review:) I have only tried their glow tonic ..but loved it! Though of investing in some other products from the brand:) /Mary

I didn’t rate the Glow Tonic very highly, I prefered the ordinary’s which is a stronger % and cheaper so found that more effective – and purse friendly!

Hi, I have seen mixed reviews on this product – what is the best way to apply this, while you have a full face of make up, apply the balm and then jump into the show to take it all off?? do you need to use a face wash after? thanks

    • December 10, 2017 / 1:13 pm

I don’t use a face wash after – either shower or sink to remove, I prefer shower as it’s a bit easier for heat
