I needed a little break from all the empties yesterday, and was planning to have a post on it up today, but in the end, I couldn’t bring myself to edit a post of 60 hair care or 60 skincare products so I watched Harry Potter instead, my review of Morgan Taylor Royal Treatment was due to go live next week but I’ve swapped it round and will have the rest of my empties next week… I hope
My first experience with Morgan Taylor was disappointing, very disappointing. So much so I declared that I probably wouldn’t be trying another polish from them unless the most unusual colour in the world appeared as the price for them just wasn’t warranted in my opinion. When I popped into Sally’s recently I spotted a lot of their shades on sale from Limited Edition collections throughout the year, and at £3.71 each I decided that a few of them were worth one more punt, one more chance to impress me.
Morgan Taylor Royal Treatment was probably the shade I was most excited to try was Royal Treatment which I think may have been a permanent shade that’s now been discontinued – as I can find reviews as far back as 2014, and Sally’s in the UK has not stocked the brand for that long.

Morgan Taylor Royal Treatment is a pretty purple, but it’s definitely not a pure purple shade with underlying berry tones in the bottle that actually – from memory – make it quite a unique shade in my collection and a lovely choice for Autumn and Winter. Unfortunately, that’s where the disappointment really started for me, as applied it dries down to a dark aubergine shade with no hints of the pretty berry that made me fall in love with the shade in the shop.

Next disappointment, application – Dark crème formulas, normally shouldn’t need more than 2 coats to be opaque, I applied this late at night and it wasn’t until the next morning that I noticed that the colour looked slightly patchy, especially around the middle of the nails. Like the first polish I’d tried from them – the formula is thin, it’s not the kind of polish you can control a thin or thick coat of – you get what comes. But it looks like the polish has maybe pooled towards the edges because it’s so thin.

I’m wearing Morgan Taylor Royal Treatment here with Essie’s Gel Couture Topcoat, which I’ve been trialling with non-Essie Gel Couture polishes (which is a 2 week mani), and it’s been working to make polishes last a little bit longer (although not the full two weeks). With the first MT polish I tried it chipped and peeled in days, and this has done the same. 2 days without the Essie Gel Couture topcoat, 4 days with it. There’s something about these formulas that just don’t like to stay on my nails, considering this is coming from a professional brand that’s more expensive than OPI, that’s majorly disappointing.

That’s so odd it looks nothing like the bottle! What a disappointment! Xx
I know! Nothing like the shade I wanted 🙁 definitely don’t think I’ll be buying from them again! Have two shades I haven’t tried yet and it’s the last chance for one of them to blow me away, otherwise they’re not making their way to my shopping basket again
The color in the bottle is so pretty tho! Such disappointment :/
I agree, I wish it was the shade in the bottle, so misleading!
Usually things like that happen with lighter shades. Liars :)) That’s how they get us haha
Oh boy that colour really is different. Not a berry at all. So disappointing when that happens x
Hmmm, it’s sort a chocolate shade, it seems. How is the bottle so purple? I don’t get it!
Ugh I know, talk about false advertising. How does it dry so damn dark!
I’d swear that bottle was painted on the inside. When you are ready to part with it, you should crack it open and see if they painted the glass. There’s like NO WAY it’s the same product!
It’s the same colour on the brush, just does some fucked up colour changing as it dries.
LMAO! That’s some quality shit there!
Shame as the bottle shade is really nice. I have a red shade that I got in the M&S beauty advent calendar last year. I really like it…but I’m glad I read your reviews as I was tempted to buy other shades! Won’t be wasting my money now. 😊
Yeah personally I think they’re so expensive for what they are, still have 2 others that are untried but they’re going to have to be something special to make me consider risking spending £12-14 on one!
Exactly when there are drug store brands that are superior! Have you tried the L’Oreal polishes the ones in the quilted-style bottle? They are awesome and only £4.99! 💜😊
I still haven’t tried them, I saw that gorgeous green on your blog the other day, I always forget to look at Loreal stuff in store as most of their packaging never catches my eye, the polishes look great though, five zero has had some really pretty shades on her blog, I must remember to look!
I never normally look and then I spotted the packaging and I was hooked. Definitely going to get some more! 💕
Oh man, that’s disappointing how much darker it dries compared to the bottle colour. What kind of technology is that?
