Colourpop Orange You Glad Palette Swatch & Review

When I heard that Colourpop were releasing an Orange monochrome palette, I had to take a look – Sol from Colourpop was my favourite from last year and what started my obsession with these little 9 pans of pure joy, and I wanted to see how different it was to the orangey/bronzey goodness they had already released. But as soon as I cast my eyes on it, the colourful and warm-tone loving gal in me needed it, and I’d pretty much bought Orange You Glad straight away!

Orange You Glad? is such a fun little palette, the cute little orange illustration is a cute touch and the orange packaging is bright and fun. There’s no doubt about it, but this palette will not let you down on the orange front, outside in it’s a tangerine dream.

One of the best additions to Colourpop’s newest releases is the fact they are including a pressed glitter shade in with these, whilst I know these aren’t for everyone, I am very happy with this as I love a glittery eye and the fact these are small, dinky pans makes sure you don’t get massive pans of glitter that some people might use more infrequently.

It was a couple of weeks between it’s arrival and me finding time to photograph this and it was killing me in the some of the last hot days of summer that I wasn’t able to pull this out, but I already think this will be my palette if we decide to do a hunt for summer sunshine abroad before the end of the year.

Orange You Glad? Swatches

Zested – In this pan this looks like a creamy peach matte, but as soon as it starts to get blended out it does turn more orangey peach and isn’t as pale as it first appears. best crease colour in the palette for me.

Squeeze Me – A soft metallic light orange/dark peach – it has a slightly golden fleck to it. Great all over the lid and applies really easily.

Creamsicle – This is a good matte shade for deepening the crease, softer outer corners or under the lashes for something smoked but more muted. Good pigmentation.

Rise and Grind – A “proper” orange matte that embodies the outside of the palette packaging colour. Blends out a little too well and I find I need to layer it up to build more pigmentation, but worth the effort.

Clementine – Sparkling peach glitter that is semi transparent and picks up on colours beneath. Works well on top of any of these shades but also pairs well with different warm colours outside of this palette

Sunkiss’d – This is a more yellowy-orange matte shade that pairs really nicely with the next shade. Good pigmentation and blends well.

Tangerine Dreams – A brighter and slightly yellow toned orange metallic. Edges more yellow than the shade “Floaties” from the Sol palette. Applies best with a finger if trying to blend intense pigment as brushes seem to cling onto this, but does blend out well.

Mimosa Mami – A neon coral orange matte, I find this is a little difficult on the crease to blend but works well on the bottom lash. Pressed pigment, not classed as immediate eye area safe, but I have not had an issue.

Ya Peel Me? – A rusty brown shade that’s good on the outer corner for adding some dimension, it’s quite sheer so picks up on other orange tones, so if aiming for true monotone orange look this does a good job of picking up on other colours when layered to simply deepen.

Eye Look Using Only OYG

I used “Zested” through the crease, all the way across, then used a blend of “Creamsicle” and “Rise N Grind” on the outer two thirds and through the crease, bringing down on the on the outer part of the lid. I then used a little bit of “Ya Peel Me” to deepen up slightly just on the edges. I placed ” Squeeze Me, all over the lids, stopping as I got to the outer corner and softening up, making sure the pigment was built up. I then used a glitter glue right in the centre of the lid patted on gently, then used “Clementine” pressed glitter right in the middle. I used Mimosa Mami right underneath the bottom lashes. To finish I just softened up the edges of the top lid using a little more of “Zested” just to make the line a little less harsh blending into a softer colour.

Orange You Glad? versus Sol

When I first got this palette I could see a few shades that looked similar to Sol, “They’ll go wonderfully together as sister palettes” I told myself, but they were definitely different enough to warrant having both (at least that’s what I told myself so I can sleep at night). But when I pulled it out to compare side by side, I was surprised at just how many shades seemed to have dupable shades. I’d say 4 out of 9 shades are half a shade different from Sol.

I’ve used Sol a lot and some shades I am close to hitting pan on, so I’m not mad that I’ve got back ups of those – but if you already have Sol, you might want to consider not purchasing Orange You Glad. To prove the similarities between the two, I put together an eye look using the dupable shades, and no joke, once on the eye you couldn’t tell the difference…

Right Eye : Sol
Shades Used : Dynamite, New Digs, Unwind, Floaties

Left Eye : Orange You Glad?
Shades Used : Zested, Rise N Grind, Ya Peel Me? and then I mixed Mimosa Mami & Squeeze Me to create the bright orange metallic Floaties that is in Sol.

Sol’s selling points are that you can create both orange, coral, warm neutral and bronzey looks with it. It’s got a lot of diversity for a little palette and was very well thought out as a colour story.

Orange You Glad?’s selling points are that it’s a full orange palette, so if you already have enough bronze and neutrals in your collection this will spice it up. Plus it has the pressed glitter shade in.

If I was picking one, I’d probably go for Sol, I have a pressed glitter separately that does the same thing as the one in this palette, I prefer the metallic orange in Sol, and whilst I do have enough bronzes and warm neutrals – the ones in Sol are some of my favourites. But despite all that, I am not mad to have Orange You Glad at all, and if you are a makeup monster, you will love it too.

I think if you love orange eyeshadow, you’ll like this palette, I think if you want a to add colourful shades into your collection, and like warm tones, orange is a great place to start as it pairs well with brown and can be slowly introduced. The quality of this palette is good, but not the best I’ve seen from Colourpop, but it’s easy to work with and has a fun mix of textures.
