Pat McGrath Fetisheyes Mascara Review

Pat Mcgrath Fetisheyes Mascara Review

If there was one brand rising up in popularity through my collection, it would have to be Pat McGrath. I’ve picked up a few bits on sale throughout 2020 and have been largely converted thanks to the quality of the products. I’d remembered hearing in passing that the Pat McGrath Fetisheyes Mascara was a good one and had it on my “I’ll get that one-day” list, and on Black Friday last year the price dropped significantly and I decided – as I was trying the NARS Extreme Climax Mascara at the time, and hating it. That I’d pick it up as it was a total steal for a high-end mascara.

Pat McGrath has been known for her pretty unnecessary sequin filled packaging since launching and it seems like with more recent launches that it’s being taken note that customers don’t want it. This still comes in a single-use plastic where a simple box would have done the job, but I do enjoy the blue holographic effect on the foil – I only wish they’d extended it to the tube itself which is rather plain and simple, although very classic Pat McGrath. The tube is a glossy black cylinder with the gold writing in the typewriter font down the side. It’s simple and looks nice enough, but I expect something more wild and heavy when it comes to Pat McGrath and I feel like these could do with a slight “jazz up” whilst they maybe jazz down on the plastic outer sleeve.

I am naturally blessed with good lashes which have fairly good length and fullness, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not fussy in what I look for when it comes to lashes. I look for mascaras that add a little more length – but really where I want it to deliver on full fluttery volume, and that tinkers right on the edge of being clumpy. The description of this mascara is that it saturates each individual lash with an intense black pigment whilst lifting and lengthening for maximum volume. As a description for a mascara, that sounds exactly what I like to go for, and I had high hopes this may be a great replacement for mascaras I no longer can purchase that are all from non-CF brands.

The wand on this is nothing spectacular to the eye, it’s a large dense bristle wand with no tapering at the tip, although not so oversized that makes it difficult to get into the inner corners or use on the bottom lashes. I tend to find I like brushes that have an hourglass or curved shape as they help lift the lashes up but this actually does a surprisingly good job of doing so despite its straight-up-and-down shape.

This mascara delivers on pretty much every claim that it makes, the wand density is perfect for creating separated but not spidery lashes, whilst also close enough together to build up volume. The formulation is a little on the drier side and as a result, it builds up volume whilst maintaining length easily and you can amp up the volume with a second coat without it going clumpy at all. I love how it looks on the lashes and is pretty much my perfect mascara.

The one thing I think it is a little lacklustre on is wear time – I find because the formula is quite dry that it tends to lose a bit of impact through the day however I’m not left with dark-panda circles made by crumbled mascara. For me, in a world where I work from home and don’t need to think about my mascara potentially lasting 6.30am to 10pm, I can overlook the wear time – I find it holds up for around 8 hours perfectly before it starts fading slightly. Whilst this makes no waterproof claims – some mascaras still hold up well in humidity and against tears and this one is not one of those. I can confirm that this is not cry-proof and in fact streaks quite horribly.

I don’t know whether the price drop was a savvy marketing move from the PMG team, knowing there were maybe lots of people wanting to try this mascara, then they’d get us all hooked coming back for more. All I know is – Pat, it worked. This mascara is great, if it drops back down in price again I’ll be picking several tubes up and will stock up, and even if it doesn’t… I’d still be back again for another tube I’m sure.

You can pick Pat McGrath up from Selfridges in the UK, however, my experience of ordering through her website has been excellent, delivery is super quick from the US, even through the pandemic and Christmas seasons the three orders I made (cough) all arrived in under a week, there is no delivery charge and there are no customs charges to pay either. (I believe this is also the same for other countries, but it’s worth double-checking if you are not in the UK). I quite honestly have been really unsure how they’re delivering mascaras for £10 for the US with no delivery charge, but I’m not questioning it.

I also picked up the Stareye mascara in a mini form with the liquid liner which I can’t wait to crack out as soon as I’ve finished this mascara. I’ve always been someone who hasn’t minded spending my money on mascara as it tends to be the makeup item that makes the most difference to me, and at £26 this comes right in at the price point of other previous favourites from YSL and Lancome.

Have you tried Pat McGrath mascaras before?

This mascara sounds wonderful! Drier formulas and natural bristle brushes are the best. What is on your eyes in the close up pictures, those colours are beautiful 😍

It’s also Pat McGrath – The Celestial Divinity palette (aka may be my favourite palette ever). Working on getting a review up ASAP, it’s such a big palette there’s lots to talk about though!

Looking forward to that review as I have seen that palette a lot lately and it does look beautiful, trying to decide whether or not to take the plunge and get it!

I’m just starting to scrape the barrel on it I think, I hope I like the next ones I’ve got lined up to review as much! This has definitely gone in my top 3 mascaras!
