Lockdown Empties : Skincare

Lockdown Empties : Skincare

Last in my lockdown empties is talking through all things skincare, I have been leaning more towards skincare than makeup over the past few months as I expect most people have been, but probably not as much as I should have been. My skincare regimen through lockdown has been pretty turbulent. I went through a period of heavy stress and my skin started breaking out and nothing seemed to get it under control, so I took all products out of my routine and have struggled to get back into it.

Pixi Vitamin C Serum Gifted [Review]
I reviewed this positively but sadly as can happen with Vitamin C products it went off. I’m confused as to how this has happened as it’s in a bottle that has no ability to be light exposed and it was kept in a dark drawer! You’d have to use this daily to be able to finish it without it turning.

Pixi Rose Tonic [Review] Gifted
One of my fave Pixi tonics, this one is great one for if you have little skin concerns. I like this most when my skin is already pretty clear and it gives some added moisture. I particularly like it in the mornings as a refresher for my skin.
Repurchase? Already have a backup lingering but trying to use up the retinol and a massive glow one currently.

Pixi Glow Mist [Review Coming] Gifted
I really like using mists when I am working at home to give my skin a bit of a refresh through the day. I liked this one a fair bit but not as much as the rose one from Pixi.
Repurchase? Maybe, but would be more likely to buy the Rose one.

B Pure Micellar Water 100ml Gifted
I got this in a Superdrug goodie bag at an event. Nice basic micellar water, cruelty free alternative to my old, trusted garnier.
Repurchase? Yes.

Pixi Makeup Melting Cloths Gifted [Review]
I very rarely buy makeup wipes any more I was sent a pack of these recently and used them up, mainly from doing swatches on my arms for blogging and testing out some unused palettes. I like these they’re a little on the dry side. I wouldn’t buy them again but when I am sent them from Pixi I do use them up.

Neutrogena Refreshingly Clear Pink Grapefruit Cleanser [Review]
I picked this up from a supermarket opposite our hotel when we went away to Manchester in November I was stood in a dilemma after packing nothing to remove my makeup. What a fab cleanser, I had low expectations and didn’t expect to end up finding it performed as well as it did whilst it wasn’t the best at makeup removal – I found it was really good at keeping my skin very clear.
Repurchase? Not cruelty free so not currently – although would consider in future as the laws are hopefully changing for China.

Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm [Review]
This was excellent at removing makeup, it melted everything with ease and left my skin feeling very soft after use. I like that it comes with something you can mix in as and when you need it to make it into an exfoliating balm too, a clever 2 in 1 product. It lasted me a long time too, I tended to keep this at hand for when I’d had heavier makeup days rather than clean skin, but even so it lasted over 6 months.
Repurchase? Yes, but not immediately as I’m trying to finish all cleansers in my collection.

Milk Makeup Charcoal Cleanser
My most recent finish up – I think this has been discontinued from their line. This was okay, I didn’t find it the most effective at removing makeup but it did a decent job. I can’t report I noticed anything significant about this in terms of how it effected my skin, it was a fine basic cleanser for using in the shower. I expected more from a cleanser with a $30 price tag.

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser
I don’t think I’ve been more underwhelmed by a cleanser. I found I needed a lot of this to even start budging my makeup off my skin. The texture was lovely but I never felt like my skin was properly clean afterwards. I ran though this whole tube in about 2 weeks – whilst it has a budget friendly price-tag that’s too quickly!
Repurchase? No, I got this in a beauty box and would use it up if it landed in my possession again, but there’s no way I would spend my cash on it!

Alpha H Balancing Cleanser wth Damask Rose 30ml
I believe I got this in a beauty advent calendar at Christmas, if not it was a beauty box. I normally save mini cleansers for travel but my cleanser stash is almost at empty so I’ve been using my way through the small and deluxe sizes I have in the cupboard. This was a lovely cleanser with a lovely rose scent to it – it reminded me a little of the Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser. I found it removed makeup pretty well leaving just a little mascara behind.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask 30ml [Review]
I bloody loved this, so did my skin. It was so easily absorbed by my skin and didn’t leave any sticky residue. I found I had to use it quite regularly in place of a moisturiser at night time rather than it simply being a weekly treatment. But it smelt delicious and my skin seemed to like it.
Repurchase? Maybe in future, but for now I have similar products to finish!

Sephora Marine Algae Sleeping Mask
I pulled this out from my stash of masks and forgot how much I enjoyed these little pods from Sephora but having tried to check the price I think they may now be discontinued which is a shame. I liked taking these on holiday with me as the pot was enough for a few nights use (or sharing with Ben!), this one I found nice and moisturising.
Repurchase? Yes… if I could get to a Sephora and if they made them anymore!

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Sheet Mask
I have a review of this upcoming so I won’t talk too much in detail, but I did enjoy using this and thought it was a nice instant boost to the skin.
Repurchase? Unlikely, I try to avoid purchasing single use plastic packaged products.

Beauty Pie Qi Energy Eye Cream [Review]
I compared three beauty pie eye creams and this has been my favourite out of the bunch. I’ve found it very brightening and found it helped eliminate any dark circles. Light and absorbed quickly found it worked well for night as well as under makeup.
Repurchase? Yes in future – I have some others to finish up first!

Caudalie Eye Lifting Balm
I got this in my Space NK birthday freebie bag, this was a nice eye cream that was easily absorbed into my eye area. Found it a good one for day time in particular.
Repurchase? Caudalie isn’t CF which I didn’t realise! It also didn’t impress me enough to go out and purchase it compared to the Beauty Pie ones.

Garnier Ultra Lift Complete Day Cream
I was sent a 30 day sample of these and thought I’d used all these stupid packets up! I was doing some rearranging and found one lingering, I hope now they have all finally gone! I didn’t notice anything special about these at all.

Elegance Natural Skincare Avocado Moisturising Cream Gifted
Sadly this isn’t a true empty but I’ve had to ditch it. I was sent this but it’s broken both me and my husband out – I don’t know whether it’s because we both happen to have a lactose allergy and whether the goats milk is an irritator to our skin (I can’t say I’ve particularly had to pay attention to this in the past with products though). It had a nice texture that was easily absorbed into the skin with a gel-cream texture, the avocado scent wasn’t too strong and it felt soothing when applied, sadly the after effects couldn’t be ignored!
Repurchase? No

I’m surprised I’ve finished up so much skincare and not managed to finish a single night or day moisturiser (the one above I’ve not counted as I didn’t touch it in the past 6 months and it’s not a true empty). Let me know in the comments what skincare items you’ve been using a lot recently and don’t forget to let me know if you’ve tried any of these for yourself before.

As a quick roundup and count, I finished up 56 products (if I don’t count the 18 secret scent vials I featured in my makeup and fragrance empties) and the total for this was £488. My total for the year is looking a lot lower than it has been in previous years as I’ve not toppled over the £1000 mark for the year as of yet, and I’m unsure if I will do!

You’ve finished quite a few products!
I love the Pixi Rose Tonic too, but it’s a shame the serum turned & I don’t use makeup wipes either b/c I find them so wasteful.
I want to try the Drunk Elephant cleansing balm now!
Oh wow that’s terrible the Elegance Natural Skincare cream broke you & your husband out! It’s good you ditched it!
