Beauty #TBT – Rimmel Apocalips

Welcome back to my new ‘Beauty #TBT’ series which last week started with the Sephora by OPI Nail Polish in Metro Chic today I don’t have a discontinued product, but more one that I’ve been rediscovering from my collection as it’s been forgotten about for at least over a year. Reorganising your makeup can be a beautiful thing (and does anyone else find it relaxing?) and when I upgrade my lip storage recently I found these gems, the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers.

I remember Rimmel Apocalips causing quite a stir in the blogging world when they launched, you couldn’t move from every single blogger (at least in the UK) talking about them. They’re a bit of an odd product they have the pigmentation of amazing lipsticks and a glossy finish – they’re not as shiny as a glossy, but they’re more shiny than a glossy lipstick – a real half way product.

All the products in this range are named after celesital/space type things – initially when the range launched in 2012 there was 8 colours, but have just rechecked and there is now 12. I think all of these colours I have had since the range launched, but there’s now some beautiful deep plummy shades (a colour I seem to be obsessed with at the moment) in the range which I’m going to have to check out. There’s also some matte apocalips which I’d never even heard of – these must have been off my radar completely.

I really love the packaging of these, a glossy black packaging with silver writing – and at the bottom you can see the colour of the product peeking through so you easily know which is which. The part I like most – which is a little odd, I’ll admit – is the lid – it’s all asymmetric and fractured like a comet hurtling through space – it makes them feel different and a bit special – which is nice for a budget product.

The formula of these is lovely, they swipe across the lip with so much ease, they’re not a product which is completely budge proof like a matte liquid lipstick, but equally they won’t give you bad wear time either. Unlike some other products the gloss effect doesn’t wear off either it stays with you the whole time whilst on the lips.

Now onto swatches of the 5 that I have

Left To Right: Celestial, Galaxy, Eclipse, Stellar, Apocaliptic

In terms of consistency I think these are the best across a range in terms of lip products which I’ve come across – at least in the case of my 5 shades. They apply identically, above is just one stroke of each, and in terms of wear time, none of the shades stand out as being any worse or better than the rest. Galaxy is a shade which since preparing this post at the weekend has fallen into my handbag and is getting a lot of wear, it’s a perfect shade for this time of year.

Galaxy – A Rosey Plum Nude

I’ve got a couple of these! In Canada they kept the name Apocalips instead of “Show Off” as they did in the US. They really are fantastic drugstore lip lacquers. I keep forgetting to use mine so thanks for the reminder! I have Aurora and Celestial. πŸ™‚
