Origins Original Skin Retexturising Mask with Clay – Face Mask Friday #58

It’s been a bit quiet at Helpless Whilst Drying HQ this week, I’ve had a bit of change at work this week and it’s really knocked it out of me and I’ve been falling asleep basically as I’ve walked in the door in the evening. So my blog schedule has ended up being neglected and I hope to catch up at the weekend as I’m home alone and I plan to indulge in catching up with my blog. For now I’m spending some evenings in with the Origins Original Skin Retexturising Mask with Clay for moments of indulgence.

M&S kindly sent me this mask to review about a month or so ago, and as I’ve been travelling about so much over the past few weeks it’s the one I’ve had on me so it’s had a good test over the past month to the point where I’ve barely tried anything else in my collection.

The Origins Original Skin mask is something they’ve had in their collection for a while, but they’ve recently repackaged the line and gave it a more modern feel which I’m totally here for. The Pink tube with the grey pattern feels fresh and inviting and when I look at in my cupboard it just feels like something I want to reach for.

Origins as a brand is one that I never tend to venture to – I don’t know why but I think it may have stemmed from my lack of local availability growing up when I first started getting into beauty and skincare – and therefore I still don’t naturally gravitate towards it. That being said anything I have tried from the line I’ve generally had a fantastic experience with and I really should prioritise them as a brand to try more out from.

The full name of this is the Original Skin Retexturising Mask with Rose Clay. Quite the mouthful. But as we know by now I’m oily and clay masks tend to always work out very well for me. Over the past month of travelling my face has seen a multitude of climates, from sunshine to snow in 72 hours – the month of April, I pretty much saw it all and it played havoc with my skin.

This mask describes itself as a two in one mask, which exfoliates whilst also refining the skin’s texture. The core ingredients that this mask is formulated with are;

  • Mediterranean Rose Clay, which is great for oil control, mattifying, deep cleaning, calming and retexturing the skin.
  • Canadian Willow Herb which is anti-inflammatory and anti-viral and soothing
  • Jojaba Beads to exfoliate

The mask has a really soft and pretty rose scent – but it’s not so sickly overpowering. It comes with some bold claims such as helping pores to vanish, instant glow and restoring clarity. For me the mask was very cooling when first applied which dries down over the space of around 15 minutes. The texture of the exfoliator is quite sparse and it doesn’t feel overly gritty in the creaminess of the clay and on the skin it’s barely noticeable until you start rinsing away and massaging into the skin to dislodge the clay. The mask dries pretty solidly on the skin and requires a really heavy hand to try and remove, I’ve found the best ways to get this off is either with my Magnitone or a microfibre cloth which helps lift it off.

I’ve found whilst the weather has been going from one extreme to the other my skin has been close to breaking out a lot and a quick dose of this either all over my skin or targeted on specific areas has really helped calm my skin down. Days after applying I feel like my skin is less prone to getting oily and overall I feel more balanced. I don’t think it really delivers on the instant pore filling claims and nor do I think it really provides instant glow – I feel like my skin always feels refreshed after using. But compared to the Pixi Glow-O2 mask for example it doesn’t give the same level of instant boost, but as a sidenote these two do pair really well together.

Whilst I have nothing bad to say about this mask at all, I can’t help but compare it to the Freeman’s one I reviewed a few FMF’s back. A clay based mask which also doubles up as an exfoliator isn’t too hard to see where the similarities lie between them both and the price difference between the two is not much less than £20.

This mask is available for £26.50 and is available from M&S here.

What are your favourites from Origins?

I was kindly sent the Origins Original Skin Retexturising Mask with Clay for consideration to review from M&S. Thoughts and words are based on my own experience with the brand.
