At heart – high end foundations work better for me than anything I’ve found on the high street. I’d never have picked up this Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation had I have not been sent a bundle of Maybelline products to try at the end of 2015. I’ve actually had this review written since May, but by the time I came around to posting as I’d not managed to get pictures of it on my face – I’d ended up spending a week in the sun in a heatwave and the colour no longer matched, funnily my thoughts seem to have changed a little now I’ve revisited it in winter.
Original Review
The Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation contains SPF 13 I’d describe this as a light-medium finish, whilst it could probably be built up and layered if you were prepared to wait for this to set. I find that if I’m not applying a powder straight away it takes a good 10 minutes for the tacky feeling that it leaves behind to settle down enough to be able to add another layer.
I have real trouble applying this foundation, I find it very easy to ruin what I’ve just put on. I’ve tried with beauty blenders and brushes and this works best for me applied with my fingers. I find blenders start picking the product back up off the face and tends to go quite patchy, and brushes create a really streaky finish. Fingers certainly don’t give a perfect finish, but they get the closest.
So whilst I clearly do not love the application leaving the skin looking just ‘okay’, I dislike even more how long it lasts. No amount of blotting and powdering through the day keeps this looking good. I find that by midday/1 o clock at work if I’ve applied this somewhere around 7.30 – I look like a total greaseball and it’s virtually all gone from my skin.
On the hand it looks fine:
Whilst I’m heavily criticising this foundation, in reality I just don’t think that it’s made for oily skins and I can imagine those with dry skins who are looking for something with a light-medium coverage might get a long somewhat better. I’ll attempt to use this up as quick as possible and I’d like to see it gone from my collection, ultimately I don’t enjoy using it – but if I get to summer the colour has stopped matching my skin before it’s empty, it’ll probably be binned off before it sits in my drawer until the winter again only to be disappointed all over again.
New Review
This is actually okay, I’m not now suddenly blown away with it’s performance. It kind of reminds me of the EX1 foundation although it’s initial finish isn’t as nice. I’ve found that this works a hell of a lot better if I use the Instablur primer from the Body Shop, but it’s the only one that seems to help on that initial application problem where it smeared and budged – it’s definitely one that works best with fingers.
I was initially a bit harsh saying the coverage was light, it’s a medium although some areas of the face I have to layer up two or three times before it looks passable, It really struggles to apply well at all to the nose or chin. I still don’t find that this lasts all day on me, and I start feeling oily quite quickly when I wear this – and the performance lasts around 3/4 hours before it’s basically done and gone. This is fine for every day, or a short afternoon out of the house when I want to be ready quickly but it’s not something that I’ll be actively seeking out to repurchase once it’s done and dusted.

I purchased this just last week ! How funnyβΊοΈβΊοΈ
I didn’t find it mind blowing but it’s ok … I tried applying my Mac studio fix powder on top of it and it made it a lot better . I also purchased the maybelline dream velvet soft matte foundation. It’s new and gives great coverage. I’ll be doing a review on it ππβΊοΈ Xx
I think Okay is the perfect description for it! I’ll look into that one, as i’m in desperate need of getting another – I don’t have anything that’s a great colour match for me at the moment!
haha I totally agree on that. I am in search of the perfect foundation too , let me know how you go with the Maybeline i recommended you π xx
planning to check it out whilst shopping tomorrow!
I wanted to try it for longest time, but I can’t find the shade that is good for me. One of my favorite drugstore foundation is Loreal Lumi Magique. π

Im currently enduring a few weeks with this foundation until I get my monthly wage and I can purchase my Rimmel Perfect Match. I bought the satin liquid a few weeks ago and it just doesn’t sit on my face well at all. The color is off completely when in reality it should be a perfect shade

I’ve just finished it this morning, glad its gone and i’m not the only one who didn’t get on well with it. I think the colour selection must be off, I was sent the shade Ivory and it matches me now at a NC25ish – definitely NOT ivory.
Wishing you a speedy payday arrival haha!
My favorite drugstore foundation is the Maybelline Fit Me! Never tried this one cause it honestly never really caught my eye.
The bottle is a bit ‘bleh’ think because it doesn’t have any colour/black it just looks a bit beige!
I’ll take a look into fit me!
I used this for years when I was in high school and thought it was wonderful before I found high end foundations xx
What are your fave high end ones?x
I love the urban decay all nighter, the cake the better haha x
Damn I have that one, one time I love it – the next time I hate it!
I have never tried this, but I don’t think I want to – I have slightly oily skin so I don’t think this would work for me. This is a lovely review though, I love how it is written xo
Thank you Alice, I’m oily too and it’s okay for a short space of time (where you’re more likely to want something more flawless looking for an evening!) but it’s not the best. Too satiny for us oily gals! x
Oddly, in 2016 I didn’t try many high end foundations – I’ve been REALLY impressed by drugstore ones though. Shade match is always a concern but this one looks good on you. I’ve not tried this one from Maybelline but I loved the Superstay one.
I want to try more from the drugstore but I’m always left unimpressed can’t find one that controls oil enough for me – would rather spend an extra bit and end up with something I love like the KVD foundation, if I can find it when I go away this weekend I think I’ll be repurchasing it – I’m missing it deeply!
Have you ever tried Revlon Colorstay? For me, it is drugstore doublewearπ
I used to like it before they changed the formula the newer version just doesn’t last on me π
Honestly …. this was awful even in dry skin on my mum! But I seriously recommend the Body shop skin mattifiying clay foundation ! I have seriously oily skin and this is high coverage , 24 hour shine control, Super matte and Dosent feel cakey! Β£10 aswell:)))
i have never tried this foundation. It looks so natural on the skin. i love the finish!
It does look nice and natural – not a flat look at all, just doesn’t last if you’re oily π
I tried this before and didn’t get in with it, maybe I’ll go for a re try xxx
I have never tried this before, but I have dry skin so it might be okay to give it a go. You’re so pretty!! x
Yes would probably be a great natural foundation for dry skin! And thank you lovely x
Use to love this foundation until I got really oily skin now it won’t even stay nice on my face x
Same, 3-4 hours and this is a gonner and it looks shiny after 2!
Great Review!
Thank you
I’ve always wondered about this one. It looks nice on you π x
