Yes to Cocounts Conditioner Review

Yes to Cocounts Conditioner Review

I used to be a massive fan of the Yes to Cucumbers face wipes before they changed something about the formula and they started making my skin go red and itchy with every use. I’ve looked at their skincare a lot and it wasn’t until recently I discovered they also had a range of haircare, so I picked up the Yes to Cocounts Conditioner when I spotted it.

The Yes To range of haircare is a small and compact selection which is why I think I’ve probably managed to overlook it in Boots for so long. There was just 2 small shelves of the range and I only noticed they were there thanks to some discounted red sales stickers on the front showing 30% off. Ever in need of stocking up on conditioner, I picked up the Yes to Coconuts conditioner and it went pretty much straight into my shower. These normally retail at around the £5 mark, but I picked this up for around £3.30 ish with the discount.

The Coconut range is specifically targeted for dry and damaged hair types. Since the weather turned cold in autumn my hair has started rebelling through a dry stage at the ends. Whilst I have had it cut a few weeks ago it’s still in need of nourishment and love as it just feels generally dry all over.

This conditioner’s ingredients list is pretty simple, with virgin coconut oil which has a multitude of benefits for the scalp as well as hair, and kukui seed oil which is rich in fatty acids for moisturising and smoothing the hair. The product is also made with 97% natural ingredients and free of parabens, which is all great news if the product actually works. In theory I love the idea of paraben and silicone free haircare, however I would much prefer that my hair looks and feels better and it be smoothed down with silicones, rather than it look dry and feel like straw from not using them, personal choice. I was expecting taking the cap of this that it would knock my head off with an overwhelming coconut smell, but it’s actually much lighter than expected – it does smell of coconuts, there’s no denying that, but it’s not as in your face as expected. For someone who isn’t a massive coconut fan like me, that’s good news.

The consistency of this conditioner is really thin and watery, it’s unlike any other conditioner I can think of that I’ve tried. The first time I used this I actually wondered whether I’d made and error and should have shook it up as the consistency just felt wrong! This felt like I was putting a milky shower gel all over my hair rather than a conditioner and I found the whole experience the first few times very odd, I didn’t get the impression I was nourishing my hair at all. Rinsing away after there was no immediate noticeable differences when wet as some conditioners often can, but the thing I did notice was how difficult it was to comb my hair after. My hair often takes ages to brush and comb post shower, but this was another level of difficulty, the key step in my routine is a decent conditioner as that makes all the difference between it taking me 5 minutes and 30 minutes to get my hair knot free, sadly this one was a long wait. When blowdried or left to air dry my hair felt like I’d forgotten to skip the conditioner step at all.

I wondered whether this was a conditioner that needed time to work it’s magic so I’ve found myself leaving it on longer and longer each time, but sadly it’s still not doing anything for me. I’m almost at the end of my bottole of Yes to Cocounts Conditioner now and I’ve diligently kept trying to get this to work for me, but with just one or two uses left in this bottle, I’m going to ask ben to finish this up for me, It’s wrecking my hair. If you have dry hair I don’t recommend this conditioner, if you have knotty hair I do not recommend this conditioner – if you have normal hair that brushes out knots with ease this may not be worth completely avoiding, but equally I don’t have it in me to actually recommend this either. Sorry Yes To, but it’s a no to this conditioner from me.

Have you tried the Yes To haircare range?

It’s a shame it’s disappointing. It does look thin and watery for a conditioner. I usually find they do nothing when they’re like that x

I’m really glad I saw this review because this is the kind of product I would have bought to try. I’ve recently been using Lee Stafford’s CoCo LoCo range and I’ve been absolutely loving it. My hair was really dry after balayage and cold weather, but it’s really helped to smooth it.

I love the Cocoloco range from lee stafford, I haven’t tried the shampoo and conditioner yet, I’ll have to give those a try. Do love the hair growth range though, it makes my hair so shiny!

    Such a disappointment :(.
I’ve been using John Freda shampoo and conditioner (for blonde hair personally) but the conditioner is really nourishing and I have been absolutely loving it for the winter xx

Thanks for reviewing this….I’ve been tempted by it before too as coconut things are usually really good :/ Good review! x

So disappointing! Yes, I can see how runny it is – doesn’t look like it would even coat your hair at all.
Pure coconut oil is supposed to be so amazing for your hair – I still haven’t tried using coconut oil yet – have you tried it?

That’s too bad. I was thinking of getting this one too. But if it tangles your hair, then it’s a no for me too. My hair gets tangled too much as it is.

I haven’t tried any of their haircare products but I’ve been using the Yes to Coconuts Hand & Cuticle Cream and it’s great! It smells lovely too. Thanks for sharing this review. x
