The 3 Month No Buy

The 3 Month No Buy

I’ll admit, I’ve been a little bit of a monster of late – I think because I now work at home, when I leave the house I’m like a magpie for shiny things. When I used to used to work in a city centre whilst I would purchase things often, I’d also be able to tell myself that things would still be there tomorrow (apart from TK Maxx of course, you gotta buy the good shit when you see it) and then forget about it in days.

So, in the lead up to turning 30 on February the 1st (let’s face it I’m going to have to treat myself for that horrid milestone) I am going to commence a no-buy. Traditionally, I’ve usually started well on no-buys, but after a few weeks something has usually caught my eye that I must have, but I am hoping working from home is going to mean that I can resist temptation more easily and we’re so busy over the next few months that actually it might be easier than I think.

There are things I am aware I’m going to have to purchase – shampoo and conditioner is running in very low supply which is of course an essential if I don’t wish to look like a character from a horror movie. My foundation supplies are running really low – I’m currently scraping the barrel on the Milani Conceal and Perfect, and my beloved Jouer High Coverage has one use left. I’ve done a really good job of finishing loads up this year and haven’t bought one since maybe March time, so I expect I will need to purchase as most of what I have left are way too pale for me.

As I’m writing this there is one free pass I’m going to give myself, and that’s the Shane Dawson and Jeffree Collaboration this which comes out today, November 1st. I’ve been watching the series, I’m a big fan of both people and if I can manage to snag one, that will be my only purchase, if they had released it a day earlier I wouldn’t even have to explain. Very selfish behaviour from the both of them.  However I have just put an embarrassing amount of things on ebay to try and sell some of which is completely new, so I should easily make back the spend I would make on this palette.

I will still be accepting PR, and in fact in the run up to Christmas, there’s quite a lot that I am aware of that is already on it’s way for gift guides – so I’m hoping these bits will keep me interested, but I am aiming to spend no cold hard cash – I do have a few odd loyalty points saved up in Boots/Superdrug, so I may hold out for a treat in the sales to spend points.

So if you see me out and about shopping on instastories, please intervene and remind my forgetful brain I am on a no-buy, and I’m only meant to be shopping for other people. In terms of content there is still loads of products awaiting being reviewed in my drawers so I’m hoping this will mean I can try and catch up a little rather than being drawn in to what’s new – but I’d also like to do some shop my stashes, where I can maybe every couple of weeks cherry pick some products out and revisit old favourites. If you’ve got any ideas of things you would like to see before the end of the year, please let me know!

Good luck with your no buy and hope you manage to snag one of the palettes!

I spent 2 hours of my friday evening refreshing the page, and I managed to get it just as I was close to giving up!

Woohoo glad you got the palette you wanted Rach! But I think I also need to do something similar – so much stuff is piling up and I’m finding it more stressful by the day! xxx

I’m normally not motivated by No Buys but this time I am – I don’t feel like I really even want anything (now I got the Shane palette). I think I’ve managed to justify buying stuff as I am using a lot of things up, but it won’t help me slim everything down if I’m just replacing it too.

Good luck with your No-Buy! It’s a bit difficult at first but I promise it gets easier. If you get stuck, you just have to justify what you already own, what you haven’t opened yet – that’s what I did and it helped loads. I think I’ll be on a no-buy pretty soon too.

Thank you, I’ve tried them before but it’s always been a bit half hearted entering them but I feel much more motivated by it than I have in the past. I know a lot of people struggle with no-buys because of Christmas sets and LEs but nothing I’ve seen other than the Fenty Gloss set has really caught my eye! I think I might spend some time organising my skincare cabinet this week and reminding myself what’s in there and what’s slipped to the back so I can find bits to pluck out and try over the next few months.

Omg I want the Fenty Gloss set too! I still haven’t quite delved into Fenty Beauty at all but that’s the one thing that’s really caught my eye. I don’t think there’s anything else from the collection that I can justify having since I’m trying to use up more foundation and blush!

I’ve been doing a no-buy every other month and it’s actually worked out pretty well as long as I avoid certain shops entirely. I am on it this month and am probably going to extend it to December because that’s too close to Christmas… I think the hardest challenge with no-buys this time of year is the potential for a good Black Friday deal.

Black Friday stuff is the worst, I’m going to allow myself to buy my favourite foundation if it comes on a deal as it’s so expensive and I’m running really low of foundation I will need to buy at some point during the no buy period!
I tried doing every other month a few years ago and fizzled out by the last half, I don’t think my heart was really in it but I think it’s something I could try again!
