You may have noticed that blog posts slowed down a little in November, as the month went on I seemed to find less and less time – I’ve been decorating a lot by myself and we’ve been away for trips. So weekends have been packed and very busy and I’ve been struggling to find time to blog or photograph, and despite working at home I’ve barely been taking a lunch break all month so I haven’t been able to find time to catch up in the week. Despite this, I did manage to finish 19 things for my November 2019 Empties, there was a week where I finished at least one thing every day, it’s nice to feel like I’ve had a little declutter before Christmas and got some things out!
In my big empties clearout which went up in two parts last month I’ve spoken about finding a new way to do empties. I’m working on something for the new year, but as December is set to be even busier than November – I’m going to hold off my grand plans until the new year and finish up this years spreadsheet. Some of the items were on my hit list to finish before the year was over, so I’m especially glad to get some of these finished off. Anyway, lets jump into my November 2019 empties….
Tigi Honey and Oatmeal Shampoo
I’ve spoken about this enough this year I think! I switched to this to try and save on plastic of smaller bottles and I think it’s made somewhat of a difference. I find this a really good shampoo that makes my hair clean, shiny and smell great. Pick it up in B&M for a fraction of what it is online!
Repurchase? Yes, but I’m currently trying to finish up some I’ve got such as the Beauty Pie Shampoo.
Grow Gorgeous Full Body Shampoo
I spoke of some Grow Gorgeous stuff in the last empties, I picked them up in my local boots on clearance for what they should have been. I think I picked this up for £3/4 when it’s normally £15 – I liked it for the sale price, but not for the full price. I did find it helped with volume and texture, but it wasn’t the best for really cleaning my roots so needed to use it as a second shampoo.
Beauty Pie Conditioner (Reviewed)
I’ve managed to finish this up long before the shampoo which still feels mostly full, this is a good conditioner, but it didn’t blow me out the water. For it’s Beauty Pie price it’s okay – but it’s not a conditioner that feels reflective of their “RRP” price of £20.
Repurchase? Maybe if I’m trying to use up credit – but not immediately.
The Wet Brush
Not strictly an empty, but it is a product which is being retired! I’ve been using the Wet Brushes as my hairbrush of choice for a few years. My hair is very knotty naturally so they do get a bit battered, but they are still hands down the best hairbrush for my hair! I used this one with my hair dryer so some of the bristles are pointing all over the place and it doesn’t brush through my hair very smoothly now, so it’s time for it to be retired and I swap one a different older one in for hairdryer service.
Repurchase? I have about 5, so no need to at the moment but I will continue to for many years.
Boots Zingy Minty Showergel
I way prefer this to the Original Source one, its much less intense but is still refreshing on the skin.
BOD Everyday Body Boost Sorbet 200ml
I got this in an ASOS beauty box I think at the start of the year or maybe even last. This was a nice body moisturiser, but I wouldn’t call it a sorbet, it was heavier – more like a balm. This smelt nice, but it was pretty light – I would have liked it if it was more scented as it just didn’t feel that luxe to use.
Mitchum Ultimate Pure Fresh Deodorant
This has been my deodorant of choice for a few years now, I find it helps prevent ingrowing hairs, moisturises and most importantly works the most effectively.
Dove Original Roll On Deodorant
I’ve spoke about these before – I tend to end up with these when I’ve been somewhere and forgotten to take my deodorant as these tend to be the only roll on option in corner shops. These are okay, but no where near as effective as the Mitchum. I’ve finally finished all of these up from my drawer, so hopefully I won’t forget my deodorant in future.
Repurchase? Only if in need!
Pixi Vitamin C Juice Cleanser (Gifted) (Review)
I loved this, it was probably my favourite product from the Vitamin C line that I tried! It’s a little pricy, however I would repurchase this. I loved this most in the mornings as a way to refresh my skin at the beginning of the day. I’m going to save this pump top bottle and decant other skincare into this such as micellar water and toners as I love this kind of pump top.
Repurchase? In future yes!
Ren Glycol Lactic Face Mask (Gifted by M&S) (Review)
I really liked this mask and found it pretty good at exfoliating the skin, as well as brightening the complexion. However I was warned that it had a short shelf life and needed to be used quickly by friends who had used it before. If I only had a handful of masks it wouldn’t bother me as much – but I have so many on rotation that I had to be using it pretty frequently!
Repurchase? No, only because of the shelf life
Beauty Pie Jeju Cleansing Milk (Review)
This cleanser lasted me ages! I had this in my ensuite and used this every night I didn’t shower to remove my makeup and clean my skin off. This is probably my joint favourite Beauty Pie cleanser with the JapanFusion cleanser. I found it moisturising and effective, on very pigmented black eye makeup it struggled a little bit to remove it all – but nothing that a quick wipe with micellar water didn’t finish off. Very good value cleanser.
Repurchase? Yes, but not until after my no buy.
Garnier Pure Active 3 in 1 50ml
This was a product I popped in my shower, I used it so infrequently I can’t really comment onto how effective it was. But I don’t think it’s a great mask and okay as a cleanser on loose impression. I have another one of these I will trial, but I’ll wait until I’ve finished the others up in my shower first so I can give it a proper review next time.
Repurchase? I already have another.
Jouer High Coverage Foundation (Review)
I reviewed this a few years ago, and just like the Fenty foundation I recently re-reviewed I have a rereview on this coming. This has fast become my favourite foundation, it has good longevity, high coverage but not cakey finish which lasts ages and looks fantastic on the skin. I try to save this for special occasions and when I need really long wear as it’s a pricier foundation.
Repurchase? Yes, I rebought on Black Friday as it was £10 off.
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
I repurchased this at the end of August, and it’s been a while since I last had this and I was so impressed, it’s such a fantastic pressed powder. I used to love keeping this in my handbag for touch ups on the go.
Repurchase? Yes, but not immediately
Beauty Pie Brow Pencil
One of the few makeup bits from Beauty Pie that I’ve tried and enjoyed, this was a good brow pencil – it’s only £3.50 so will pick up a couple the next time I order from Beauty Pie.
Colourpop BFF Mascara (Review)
This isn’t a full empty, but I’ve used it up enough to not feel guilty about throwing it out now. The majority of reviews I’ve seen on this have been bad – and deservedly so. It looks okay on the lashes, it did get better with age and I found it created a fluffier lash in the run up to me throwing it out that I loved, but it’s terrible longevity just made it atrocious!
Repurchase? No you couldn’t even pay me to try it again!
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir 30ml (Review)
This is one of the biggest beauty disappointments I’ve ever had! This fragrance is one I lusted after for years, but when I finally had it I found it really underwhelming. It didn’t last very well on me at all and I didn’t love the fragrance as much as I did in stores. I think this for me is more of a home fragrance rather than a perfume, but what really let it down was longevity.
Beyonce Heat Kissed
I’m beginning to try and catch up on fully using up my secret scent box samples now I’ve finished Pomegranate Noir, and I managed one last month. I actually really liked this as an autumnal fragrance, it’s very warm scent that made me feel very cosy as I wore it.
Repurchase? I don’t think I’ve ever looked at Beyonce’s fragrances, but I’m tempted to go for a sniff now!
Oral B 3D White Whitening Therapy
Both Ben and I really enjoyed this toothpaste and we found that it whitened well and seemed to make a more noticeable difference than most. I spoke in my last empties about stopping tracking toothpaste in the New Year as i’m rarely gifted it any more, and then I was gifted one!
My November 2019 Empties took me up on my total use up for the year further than I expected it to – the expensive foundation and perfume gave a hefty boost and has taken me to £1776 of product finished off! I don’t think I will exceed £2k as we only have one month left and I don’t think there’s any big ticket items (over £30) that are likely to be finished this year. I am close to being able to hit 250 products though, so I may make an effort to try and use small items and samples so I feel like I can maybe hit that as a milestone! There are a few items I’m hoping to be finished with – notably the Pixi Vitamin C moisturiser which is lasting forever, but I really want to finish it up so I can start trialling something new! If you’re interested in having a nosy at my spreadsheet you can do that here – and there’s also a template tab for you to grab a copy for yourself if you fancy taking up tracking your empties in the new year!
Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these and what your thoughts were, also let me know what you are trying to finish up before the new year starts!
