I know I’m not the only one who craves that start of the year wish to declutter, and what better place to start than with what causes most of my clutter: beauty. I set myself a challenge to try and average one empty a day for my January 2021 Empties and worked hard at sticking to those products on their last dregs. This is a mega empties edition as I smashed that target finishing off 41 items (full, deluxe and sample), we’re going to jump in and whizz very quickly through.
Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Blonde Bleach x 3
I needed some bleach, pronto and this was the best rated I could get on Amazon Prime for an good price that had a good rating. This wasn’t great at lifting semi-permanent natural colour out of my hair, and nor was it great at lightening hair too. Normally I stick to salon quality powder but the reviews of this suckered me in, but never again. Crap for a bleach bath, crap for bleaching the hair fully.
Repurchase? Note to self, never again.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner & Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo
Two returning favourites that will always appear a lot. Going to take a break from Aussie for a few months, I’ve been using it pretty consistently for about 6 months and I’ve found my hair seems to be getting used to it. Normally I find if I take a break for a month or two I can return for full effect again. Spoke about both loads, both are ultra hydrating but don’t overload my oily prone roots.
Repurchase? Yes in future!
Join Organic Shampoo
I picked this up on Amazon, trying to find an alternative to Aussie Miracle Moist I could throw in with other Amazon orders to save me making special trips out the house just to get shampoo! Sadly this wasn’t a contender, firstly packaging was very annoying, secondly, this was a real slog to finish – I had this on the go since September and used it as a body wash or as one of my shampoos (I have greasy hair, I usually shampoo my hair twice!) – I never felt like my hair got as clean with this.
The Hair Boss The Double Hair Mask
I have a review of this haircare line coming up so I won’t talk too much about this in great detail. But a two-part hair mask kit that includes a moisture hit and a bond repair treatment. The packaging is very good quality, and in some ways that does put me off – it doesn’t need to be so heavy for a disposable product that gets used fairly quickly.
Repurchase? Maybe – I snagged it at 30% off, unlikely at full price.
Directions Dark Tulip Hair Dye
I don’t think I’d ever used this particular shade from Directions until I did my multicoloured hair in December, when I went pink I decided to do a gradient root with this and finished the first tub I had of this. I’ve loved the deeper raspberry pink tone of this so much I’ve just redyed completely with this colour. Big fan!
The White Company Noir Conditioning Shampoo
I found this mini kicking about in a clear up – it smelt… incredible, but didn’t love it as a shampoo, second uses in these shower were used as a shower gel instead.
Lee Stafford Keep in Clean Dry Shampoo
Probably the best dry shampoo I’ve tried under a tenner, the only thing I can think that has beat it is the IGK one which is five times the price. This gives me the same clean hair appearance as the IGK one, but it feels a little bit heavier so it doesn’t quite make it to the top spot, however, the price can’t be beaten and when you can snag it on 3 for 2 or for a third off, which Boots regularly do – it’s even better.
Repurchase? Yes, already have – 2 cans!
Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo 92ml
This is my second can of this and an item that came in my advent calendar. I like the effect this dry shampoo has on the hair, but I find I need a lot of it and for the price I run through it too quickly. I’d guess I got maybe 4 uses max from this can and it’s £10 – that’s too much per use for my pockets!
Repurchase? No, will use if it ends up in my collection again, but otherwise no.
Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair
This was from my 2019 advent calendar and got circulated in as my main post-shower haircare when I finished one off around September. This smells lovely with a herbal scent, and was okay – I didn’t think it was as smoothing or moisturing as the one I was using previously, but I did enjoy using it!
Bluesky Gel Colour SN10
A polish close to my heart, but the last time I used it I left the cap off and it leaked out a little laying down, so I went to use it last time I did gel nails and discovered it had majorly leaked! A lovely mid-purple chunky glitter that goes to full opacity in 2 coats. I love this range of colours, but this particular colour holds special memories, one I need to repurchase for sure!
Mitchum 48 Hour Pure Fresh Deodorant
Not my favourite from Mitchum, I think I grabbed this when I couldn’t get my cream stick favourite, but will always pick mitchum above others. Good, i just prefer the feel of the cream stick for every day.
Repurchase? If I can’t get my favourite – yes!
Carex Aloe Vera & Moisture Hand Soap
Is it an empties now-a-days without an abundance of hand soap? 2 Carex basics finished off, I’m starting to replace with nicer looking hand soaps everywhere other than Carex, but would repurchase happily.
Seksy Entice Rollerball
I’m only going to talk about this one as it’s the only full size! This is a nice sweet perfume rollerball I had been keeping in my handbag for being and and about, but decided to just finish it up. Won in a raffle, wouldn’t repurchase but rollerballs are hard to get here in the UK, so a nice to have!
Giorgio Armani My Way Perfume
Roberto Cavalli Nero Absoluto & Michael Kors Wanderlust
Gifted by Scentful
Bvlgari Splendida Jasmin Noir, FCUK For Her, Hollister Wave For Her, Dolce and Gabanna Light Blue Love is Love, Abercrombie and Fitch First Instinct Together
Gifted by Secret Scent Box
NARS Climax Extreme Mascara [Gifted] (Review)
I can not tell you how much I disliked this. My review was pretty negative of this and I decided to crack open a new one for a few weeks and revisit it and I confirmed I really hated it. Life is too short for bad mascaras, so I decided it just had to hit the empties pile straight away.
Repurchase? Nope, not for moi.
Beauty Pie Superbrow Pencil
Great skinny brow pencil, very inexpensive but perfect for what what I need it for. Great colour match too!
Repurchase? Yes although trying a few new ones first as I went to repurchase and my colour was OOS.
Lancome Sourcil Pro – Dual Ended Eyebrow Pencil
This came in a beauty box yonks ago and I’ve not used it in ages, I turned to it when I ran out of the Beauty Pie one without warning and finished it up, The other end had a brightening concealer on it which I didn’t finish in the end as I didn’t love it and found it had a bit of a greasy and heavy feeling to it which I didn’t love.
Repurchase? I think this is discontinued, but it would have been a no anyway!
Jouer High Coverage Foundation (Review)
I need to rereview this foundation! Definitely my most repurchased foundation of all time and in my original review I was tinkering on not being 100% sold! I love this stuff, long lasting, pigmented but not heavy feeling. Smaller than average bottle but lasts a long time once opened as a little goes a long way.
Repurchase? Yes, already stocked up on Black Friday as I knew I was getting low!
B Makeup Antibacterial Brush Sanitiser [Gifted by Superdrug]
This was a good option for spot cleaning brushes on the go, didn’t tend to get all pigmentation off eyeshadow brushes, particularly bright and dark colours – but the
Spacemasks Rose Edition (Gifted)
I was sent these when the rose ones launched (which I’ll admit is quite some time ago now), and they are no longer around. I’ve only ever had a couple of these in my life, but they are incredible at helping your brain switch off when it’s being very stubborn. They are a use-once eye mask which heats up once they become activated by air contact. This one had a soft rose scent to it, and hit the spot perfectly one night when my brain was busy.
Repurchase? Obviously can’t this version, but would pick up the originals (note to self, pick up some and put them in the cupboard so you have them when needed)
Evolve Organic Beauty Hyaluronic Serum 200 & 360 Lip and Eye Contour (Gifted) (Review)
This HA serum was one of the best that I’ve ever tried, I adored the formula of it, almost too much so as I think I ran through this quicker than I may have as I just loved putting it on! The lip and eye was nice, but having come out of using retinol eye creams either side of this one, I didn’t think it was as anti-aging as I needed, a nice light hydrator, but a not as intense as I need in my now early 30s.
Repurchase? Serum, yes! Lip and eye not my fave.
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream 15ml (Disclaimer, I work for Augustinus Bader)
I got this in my Space NK advent calendar, and thought my works richest face cream was going to be too much for my oily skin. I used this on and off from October when my advent calendar arrived but really kicked into it in December when I finished reviewing and trialling another moisturiser, and boy what a difference it made. Smoothing, plumping, non-greasy, helped visibly fade some stubborn scarring over just a few weeks. Skin transformed to the best it had been in years in such a short space of time, and this was the only change.
Repurchase? Yes – although have a small vat of it now supplied from work so will be going with it for some time!
Puriskin Clear Lip Balm [Gifted by Beauty Blogger Box]
I went back through my archives as I knew this had come in a beauty box a long time ago and had sat untouched. February 2016 to be exact! I ran through this pretty quickly once opened. It was quite nice and nourishing, not my favourite as it didn’t have a scent, or taste and felt a little plain but was nice enough.
Repurchase? No, this formula is discontinued but it’s not an easy brand to get and it wasn’t nice enough to go out of my way for.
The Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Butter (Review)
A fabulous, affordable cleansing butter, great at removing makeup – particularly heavy eye makeup with ease. I did feel like it clogged by pores ever so slightly but would still pick it up in future and use maybe more as a double cleanse routine (which I’m often too lazy to do!)
Repurchase? Maybe yes!
Garnier Milky Micellar Water (Review)
I can not tell you how glad I am to see the back of this. It’s never taken me so long to finish a micellar “water” off. This is more like a thick gluttonous gel-like consistency, resembling adult fluids. Not my favourite to use at all. But I will give it to them, I do think this was 200 uses, if not more!
Repurchase? Absolutely not a cat’s chance in hell.
Pixi Glow Glycolic Boost Sheet Mask (Review) [Gifted]
Rarely use sheet masks any more but this is one I do enjoy from Pixi, they do however come as a pack of three. However I do think you could do something similar by using glow tonic and hydrating your own sheet masks if desired.
Repurchase? Nice, but a non-essential for me, I try to steer away from buying single-use masks where possible for waste reasons.
Algenist Blue Algae Vitamin C Peel
Small packet sample, used once. Hated the texture too thick and gloopy. Can not tell you if it did anything or not!
I’m gonna wrap my January 2021 Empties up quickly as this was a loooooooong ass post! Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these before and what your thoughts were of them!
