Viva La Juicy Glace Perfume Reivew

Viva La Juicy Glace Juicy Couture Perfume

Ahh – Juicy Couture fragrances. They’re so Nostalgic for me – especially Viva La Jucy, a perfume that was my go-to throughout university and as my collection of fragrances grew, and I started to try and dwindle them down to keep a more curated collection (you can see my last perfume collection here, I might have to do an updated one this year!). From my past empties posts, I last had a bottle of this in 2015, but when I spotted their Glace Viva La Juicy in a Boots sale for a mere £20 for a 50ml bottle, and I was in need for something a bit more affordable to splash on me for work in the day, I couldn’t resist and picked this up. For old times sake.

If you thought the original Viva La Juicy bottle packaging was a little bit extra, Glace turns up the notch just a lot more and is completely over the top, in the best possible way. The thing that first caught my eye on the shelf was the outer cardboard box, because just look at it, it’s shiny and pink to ombre silver glitter. Only a tease for what was to come from the bottle.

The original bottle is a glass square, base with a gold metal Juicy Couture emblem on the front, with a “simple” bright pink bow around the faceted glass lid. This one has all the same ingredients, but the glass bottle is a stunning shimmering white to pink pearl effect, the emblem on the front has added touches of pink and some added gemstones, and the pink bow around the top? Slightly paler than the original, but with added fluffy feathers and a small faux flower for good measure. And it’s absolutely spectacular, and couldn’t be more Juicy Couture if they tried.

Whilst the packaging being incredibly worthy of a decorative piece in it’s own right, I’m sure you also want to hear about what it smells like too, right?

It has fresh top notes of mandarin, cassis, pear – notes online also say that it has sorbet notes, I’m not sure how sorbet can be a note specifically, but the freshness of the ingredients do manage to give it an ‘icy’ air. As the perfume settles it reveals floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom which are fresher florals and compliment the top notes well. Once it’s fully settled the warm, familiar gourmand base notes of amber, vanilla and sandalwood come through. It’s missing some of the sweeter sickly notes such as caramel from the original – which help the freshness from the top notes stay more present as the perfume dries down.

The original Juicy I started to fall out of love with because it was a little bit on the too sweet side – I’m a fan of my gourmand perfumes and I found that one just a little bit too sugary by the end of my last bottle in 2015. Viva La Juicy Glace has all the same notes as the original, but they toned down the fragrance just a little (and toned up the packaging quite significantly to make up for it!) and it’s a slightly lighter, fresher version. So if you in principle like the idea of the original VLJ, but found it just a little bit too sweet, then this is an option that’s worth considering.

One of the things that stopped me repurchasing this was because I felt like I was so used to the perfume after years of it being my daily go-to, that I could no longer really smell it on me. The break has done us good and whilst these perfumes are never going to win awards for their longevity, I would say that it seems to mostly last the work day for me – and for the price, it’s performance is totally acceptable for a daily work perfume that cost me £20.

If you’re interested in picking this up I’d recommend that you move quick. This was a limited edition in 2017 and whilst it is still available it’s no longer produced and it seems to be disappearing from some stores. When I picked it up from Boots it was on clearance and it’s now disappeared from the website online, but there are other stores which do have it. I’m really glad that I picked this up, and it feels good to be reunited with an old friend.

What is your go to perfume for the day time?

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before but I have this in a double ended rollerball that I got as a gift. I like this scent but I still think I prefer the original VLJ, sad to see it’s been discontinued though. If I see a discounted bottle I may pick one up as like you I think this would be nice for work 🙂 x

I haven’t gone to re-purchase it at all but I rather like Marc Jacobs’ Daisy for daytime wear. I am on/off when it comes to wearing perfume – I do have the Viva La Juicy and whilst I do like it, I’m not sure I like it as much as the majority. My all-time favourite perfumes though are from Dior. I don’t think my love for them will ever change!

I love Marc Jacobs perfumes but they react really badly with my skin and break me out in a rash 😭 I used to have 3-4 and suddenly they all started reacting the same on me so had to pass them on to friends!
I love Dior perfumes but don’t have any, they’re never top of my list so never get tried but I always love giving them a whiff!
