My end of month finish up was significantly smaller than January’s bumper edit of trash, but I was still pleased to finish up a nice little chunk of items again in my February 2021 Empties. Let’s jump right in and speed through them.
Skincare
Dr Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum 10ml [Review]
I reviewed this month, and it is an incredibly expensive Hyaluronic Serum – I ran through this so incredibly quickly and didn’t see the results I would have expected to see more at £85 per 10ml. It’s the nicest HA I’ve used, but not enough so when I consider the price point, there are budget products that worked as well as this. This came in my advent calendar and I thoroughly enjoyed using it – but not
Repurchase? No!
Glow Recipe Banana Souffle Moisture Cream 25ml [Review]
I enjoyed this as a very lightweight moisturiser that was good for sealing in actives but didn’t find that it was the best thing by itself for adding hydration to the skin when I compare it to my favourite moisturisers.
Repurchase? No, but would use it again if I had it.
Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly
I got a sample of this from an ASOS order and I suspect that this caused me to have a reaction but given I only had one use of this I wasn’t able to retest to check. Proceed with caution.
Makeup
Physician’s Formula Argan Wear Bronzer
This has been the main bronzer since December 2019, so this has been a good slog to finish. This was quite a warm but not overwhelming bronzer that looked really nice on the skin. It was a bronzer rather than a contour which is more what the Butter Bronzer is from Physician’s Formula. I would use this again if I had it, but I’ve got a few bronzers in my drawer to move onto and given how long it took me to finish this… I’m not looking to repurchase any bronzers soon!
Repurchase? Unlikely, but I did like this.
Haircare
System Professional Inessence Shampoo [Gifted PR – Although not to Me]
My friend Molly passed this on as it really didn’t work for her and I’m the total opposite hair type to her, so we thought we’d see how it worked for me and it was also terrible in my hair leaving my hair feeling heavy and unclean. This has been working for me better as a makeup brush cleaner in a bid to use it up. Not the best but I think we’re all glad to see the back of this.
Directions Dark Tulip Hair Dye
This isn’t a colour I’d use before until Jan and I’d finished both tubs of it up from my bathroom, it’s a gorgeous deep pink with undertones of purple too that made it a bit darker and richer than my usual colour. I really loved this tone and was a big hit with people and had a lot of compliments. I have a few other shades in the cupboard I’m trying to finish but I think I’ll go back to this one again.
Repurchase? Yes!
Herbal Essences Bourbon and Manuka Honey Shampoo
Picked this up on a bit of a whim in Wilko when I needed shampoo – this was okay, I shampoo my hair twice when washing and I found I had to use this alongside another shampoo otherwise it made my hair a little heavy, but I did find it nice and moisturising.
Repurchase? Maybe, but unlikely.
Bodycare
Carex Complete Nourish Handwash
Standard Handwash. Nothing to say. Not my fave, not the worst.
Repurchase? Yes
B. Men Shave Cream [Gifted by Superdrug]
This was an incredible shave cream, one of the best ones I’ve ever used, got a really good close shave and felt really nourishing. Noticed a lot less ingrowing hairs and razor bumps on intimate areas when using this. I believe this has been repackaged but is the same formula.
Repurchase? Yes! I’m using another up and then I’ll be going back to pick up more of this.
Mitchum Ultimate Pure Fresh Deodorant
Rave about this all the time. Best deodorant ever.
Repurchase? Yes.
General Consumables
Simple Gentle Organic Cotton Pads
I picked these up on Amazon, I use reusable ones as much as possible now but I like to still use throw away ones for nails so I’m not mixing acetone with my eyes by mistake at any point. These were okay – may pick them up again but definitely more affordable ones available via Boots and Superdrug.
Repurchase? Maybe if needed
Fragrance
Giorgio Armani My Way Perfume / DKNY Pure Verbena [Gifted Secret Scent Box]
My Way was an absolute delight – one of my favourite perfumes that I’ve tried recently and is now on my shopping list of fragrances to own. Pure Verbena was okay, more of a layering scent for me but good for those who like a really fresh scent.

Lovely post!! I really want to try the brand Glow Recipe, this moisturizer was actually on my list but now I am scared that it won’t be hydrating enough. I have combination to dry skin. I need a really rich moisturizer. Maybe in the summer..

What skin type are you? I’m oily but slightly dehydrated and didn’t think it was that moisturising by itself – using it as a sealer with hydrating serums it was better, but my itself – a bit meh! x

Doh, only read the first part of your comment before hitting send – if you’re dry I’d say nah on this one! x
