Blue Sky Gel Polish – Colour Change 021 – Review & Swatch

For the past 3 or 4 months, you’ll might have noticed that the number of nail polish related posts have decreased. For some reason and I don’t know why – I’m finding my nail polish chipping off quicker than ever – even old favourites which I could rely on for 5-7 day manis, and as a result I’ve been finding that I’ve been turning to my gel kit more and more as I’ve been getting annoyed with the need to repaint my nails every day or two.

I’ve just come to the end of my gel nail base and topcoats, and turned to my bestie who does nails professionally from home and asked her what she’d recommend. She uses Blue Sky which is essentially Shellac without the brand name (and price tag), and she had never noticed a difference between the two. I decided to invest in their top and base coat, and treat myself to a new polish as I’m exhausting my small gel collection at the same time.

The shade I opted for was from the colour change range and creatively names ‘021’ (don’t you wish companies didn’t do that! Normally when I think of colour changing product – I think of something that slightly changes from light pink to mid pink for example – but this one is a complete change of a bright fuschia pink when cold to white when warm. The formula is gelly like and packed with silver and white glitters of various sizes which creates such a dense interesting look on the .

The formula of this was quite thick, with the added glitter meant it needed some care and attention when applying as you could be left with half a bit chunky glitter hanging off your nail. But with a proper surface (rather than sitting on the sofa as I usually do!) wasn’t too hard – and considering I’m still a gel newbie and getting the hang of it, I got the thumbs up from my professional bestie.

As someone who suffers with Reynauds (a circulatory problem) the one thing that this has highlighted is that some of my fingers are warm and some of my fingers are colder so can be left with hands which are half and half on finger colour. Personally I’m not too bothered about that though. The polish when you’re obviously a bit hot/a bit cold can be interesting as it can create gradients all by itself, and after washing your hands it can also leave some interesting colours as it’s transitioning back from white to either white or all partially pink.

As a set so far, this has been on my nails for a week, with my first time using the base and gel coats from the line too – I’m much more impressed that anything else that I’ve tried so far. A side note on the top and base coats are that these are far thicker than the Sensationail one which came with my kit, which I always found didn’t last fantastically, and this one was much easier to apply and I can already tell it’s going to create a longer lasting manicure.

Overall I’m so impressed with this polish – and don’t plan on taking it off until it needs to. I’m already looking at all the other colour changing combinations available from Blue Sky – but if you have any recommendations – from Blue Sky or otherwise, please let me know, I’m getting more and more into gel polish over ‘normal’ polish and I can see it being something that I use regularly forward.

I get so frustrated when I paint my nails and the next day they’ve started to chip. Even with expensive brands, chipping is inevitable. I feel your pain! After this post I definitely want to do some research into gel polishes although I’m pretty nervous to do it myself. Shellacs from the salon are great, but I’m worried it won’t turn out if I do it on my own. Is blue sky available in the US?

I think it’s available in the us, it’s not something sold in shops here – but eBay and Amazon are covered with them so you should find a seller that delivers them! I know I completely agree I used o be able to do manis that would last 3-7 days but anything less than 5 nowadays really annoys me as I don’t have time to keep redoing them! Xxx

Colour changing polishes are so fun! It’s like you’re wearing completely different manis in those pictures depending on the minute. I would run my hand under hot / cold water to watch the colours change haha.

Everytime I wash my hands I stare at my nails like a crazy lady a couple of people have given me odd looks – but a few have been like wow! x
