GlamGlow Youthmud Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask Review

GlamGlow Youthmud Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask Review

Reposting this oldie as this week’s Face Mask Friday Post!

GlamGlow has quickly become one of the most talked about beauty lines over the past year or 2. It’s a product which I’ve been intrigued about from the start, it wasn’t until recently that I realised that you could get the GlamGlow range in the UK.

GlamGlow Youthmud is not a budget product, and is probably the most I have spent on skincare, on a cost per ml basis, I decided to buy the smaller pot at only 15ml, this normally retails at £25, larger pots are available for £39.99 for 50g, considerably better value for money, but still a lot for a product which I don’t yet know that I love. Last week M&S they had 20% off clothing, lingerie and some beauty for one day only – I wasn’t expecting to see this included in the promotion but it was. So I picked this up for £20. I would have been more curious to try the super-mud treatment, but alas M&S don’t stock that particular one.

My skin is in the worst state that it been in for about a year, I know it’s not as bad as most peoples, I only suffer with the odd spot, but nothing at the moment can seem to budge or clear blackheads, especially on my chin area. So I thought that if there was a time to try, with the price reduction and the blackhead problem, it was now.

As always starting with the packaging it’s in a sleek black box with silver and white writing, Although I knew the amount of product at 15ml was going to be small, I didn’t think given the size of the box it would be this small. It’s very cleverly packaged to give you the appearance that you’re getting more for your money, in terms of the box, and in terms of the packaging itself, is so heavy. It’s supreme high quality metal container lined with plastic inside which really weighs it down. Be warned, it really is tiny.

GlamGlow Youthmud is natural, suitable for all skin types, paraben free and suitable for vegans. All great qualities for skin care. Formulated with volcanic rock, French sea clay and active green tea leaf. The box goes on to be more helpful by describing what results it should give… I’ll come to these at the end as to if I thought they were achieved.

The consistency is thick as you’d expect with a mud mask, you can see the bits of green tea leaf, as you rub it in you can feel the exfoliating beads. After about 30 seconds you can start to feel the tingling effect, it’s subtle it feels and smells refreshing, that her than being very intense in the tingling department. The mud starts drying and feeling like it is tightening about after another minute it’s dry. This says to leave on for 10 minutes, I left it on for slightly longer as I feel cheated for the price leaving it on for a short amount of time.

So here’s the results which should be achieved by using this mask:

  • Leaves skin noticeably radiant and glowing It looks better, my foundation applied better the morning after, and people at work asked what I had used – always a good sign
  • Activates collagen synthesis – Erm – No Idea what that means, I presume this means that it makes the skin look plumper, my skin isn’t really dehydrated so I don’t think my face looks any plumper… if that’s what it means!
  • Provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation – yes it wasn’t too harsh when rubbing off, but enough to make my skin feel smoother and exfoliated without a hard scrub.
  • Helps to leave skin smoother, brighter and softer Yes, this delivered on all of the above, Skin is very soft and smooth in particular
  • Provides tighter skin texture and tighter pores Pores didn’t become invisible but I could see they were noticeably smaller
  • Helps provide a more youthful appearance Not really, my skin looks better, but I don’t have any fine lines etc that could be reduced
  • Absorbs impurities without removing natural oils Over the next day I noticed that my normally oily skin didn’t start to feel oily until the evening, I’d normally have this happen somewhere between lunch time and early afternoon, I didn’t change anything in my routine, so it must have been because of this.
  • Helps to protect against radical damage Impossible to measure, especially over the short term!

I used GlamGlow Youthmud for the first time 3 days ago and held off publishing until I had a few days to see if the effects are lasting, I would say yes, my skin is still looking and feeling better, and hasn’t got oily until way into the evenings. This is suggested for use every 2 days – personally I think it’s a bit harsh to use every few days, but once a fortnight, a week at a push I could treat myself to this!

Would I buy again? Hard to say with out using the whole tub, considering this is meant to be used so regularly and it is so pricey, I think I would use it along with other masks in between. I’d definitely purchase the 50g pot over the 15, but I would still recommend trying before you buy as it could be an expensive mistake otherwise. But I predict I could get 4 uses out of this maximum, so a pot over 4 times this, if I was doing to buy I would still try to pick up whilst on offer, these are available on feel unique which regularly has voucher codes and offers, and m&s is more and more frequently doing similar promotions.

Cost per use for 15ml at £25 (approx 4 uses total) = £6.25

Cost per use for 50ml at £39.99 (approx 14 uses total) = £2.85

Have you tried Youthmud or anything from the GlamGlow line?

Personally, I didn’t like this one at all. 🙁

I wrote this in November, and have finished it since then, I thought it was okay – ultimately I don’t think I would buy it again unless it was on a serious discount! X

Yes, not worth the price tag in my opinion.
