It’s the 1st of December, so that means I go full scale crazy with wanting to be surrounded by Christmas! I’m getting a tree ASAP, decorating, baking, festive nail art… the lot! December is my favourite time of year, not specifically Christmas but I love the build up, Christmas cheer and spirit!
1. What is your favourite Christmas movie?
I have 2 I can’t choose between. The film I’ve loved from a child is a Muppet’s Christmas Carol, my sister and I watched the film multiple times a year. I now always mark the start of Christmas by watching Elf, I love Zooey Deschanel – both films give me warm fuzzy feelings inside!
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve of Christmas morning?
For the past few years we have spent early Christmas morning at my boyfriends parents, and afternoon/evening at my parents. No presents pre-christmas though! Me and my sister do have an annoying tradition of getting presents out of the tree, and pointing to them and saying ‘kun-ope-en-it?’ (can i open it?) no idea where that comes from, but that starts as soon as one present appears from anywhere.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Waking up on Christmas morning with my sister, going through everything in our stockings before we were meant to, trying to put them back in the same order they came out, then going into my parents room and opening them all over again! It wasn’t until a year or two ago that they found out we did this!
4. Favourite festive food?
Brandy butter, not even the christmas pudding, the brandy butter is the important part!
5. Favourite Christmas gift?
Vet Barbie, which came with a cat, dog and a pet bed which made noises – I used to want to be a vet, but I have ended up with a beagle.
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
I insist on having a real tree, it will cost a fortune over our lives, but you can’t beat the smell of the tree filling the house for about a month. I can’t wait to go and get ours and give it a sniff (tree perve).
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
We go to midnight mass, which is an important tradition in our family – it’s the only time in the year that we ever go. This will be the first year that I probably don’t go as I live 30 minutes away from the church now – so the trek back at the early hours of Christmas morning, to go back.
8. What tops your tree?
We have a mercury glass star, but I wanted to get an angel, but we never found one we could agree on. I’ll be on the hunt every Christmas until we find one though!
9. As a kid, what was the gift you always wanted but never received?
There’s nothing that sticks in my mind as something I never received and always wanted. what we didn’t have our best friend Jo probably did and vice versa.
10. What’s the best part of Christmas for you?
The rule at my parents house, no television! To a lot of people that might sound boring, but the catch up is always there for the following day. We spend quality time together talking and taking the piss out of each other, playing a lot of board games (we always get 1 new one) and deciding which 20 year old drink from my parents cupboard we’re going to drink (last year limoncello).
