Autumn Empties 2020

Autumn Empties 2020

I got my empties basket out at the end of September, fully intending to do a monthly clear out but it ended up sitting on my carpet for a good 2 weeks and getting more stuff thrown in. I wanted to get rid of it all in one swoop and into the recycling, so I’ve merged them all together and this is everything finished up over the past 6 weeks or so.

Fragrance

Calvin Klein Eternity Moment 100ml

One of my all time favourite perfumes, I love this during the summer months as it’s a lovely pure floral perfume. This is a perfume that holds a special place in my heart, I’ve had it since I was a teenager and has been one I’ve had several times in the past. It works well layered with other perfumes too if I want to tone down a stronger perfume this gives a nice lighter floral note. It was one of the fragrances I wore on my wedding day which tells you how much I love it.

Repurchase? Probably, yes.

10 x Secret Scent Box Vials [Gifted]

Another good use up of these this month has been 10 secret scent vials, I tried to pick out ones I could see that were already mostly finished to help declutter a little and I now only have a handful of these left to use up. Stand outs were Versache Bright Crystal, Davidoff Cool Water Intense and I Love Juicy Couture.

Makeup

CYO Brow Sculpt Pencil

This was a great colour match for me, I really liked that it had a spoolie built in, the formula was easy to apply and it lasted really long, the thing I didn’t like was how thick the nib was, I like a really tiny micro ended nib as the tails of my brows aren’t massive and at times I found this made my eyes slightly, sluggish if I was in a rush!

Repurchase? CYO is now discontinued, but it would have been a no anyway!

CYO All Set Fixing Powder

This was a fairly good cheap loose setting powder. I found it mattified quite well, whilst not creating on signs of life and it was a good transluscent colour. It’s not my favourite power I’ve ever tried but it was good enough – I’ve decided to save the container to decant the RMCA powder which has horrendous packaging which I am working on next!

Repurchase? Again, discontinued.

Marc Jacobs Gel Liner Pencil

This didn’t get fully finished off, but I went to use it and sadly it had dried up and had totally lost it’s mojo and didn’t apply well. This was a great liner with amazing pigmentation, but I just don’t use pencil liners that much any more so I’m not surprised it didn’t last. I have plenty of others in my drawers to use up.

Repurchase? No

Real Techniques Sponge

I tried to use this recetnly and even when wet it felt rock hard, so I decided to bin it off completely – I’ve had this for years and rarely reach for it any more, the shape of this isn’t my favourite as I prefer something that has a more tapered and precise tip for going in around the eye area.

Nails

Sallys Salon Services Acetone

I usually buy pure acetone so I can use it for soaking off gel when required and this bottle from Sally’s is such good value and has lasted me a good 2/3 years I think – it’s only £3.99 for a giant 500ml bottle. I need to pick another up next time I’m near Sally’s.

Repurchase? Yes!

Bodycare

FFS Shave Cream [Gifted]

I’ve spoken about this before – I really like this shave cream and find it one of the best I’ve tried as it doesn’t foam and feels almost like a cleansing balm and leaves the skin really silky. I’ve finished up a few of these and need to some more stocked up as I’m missing it in my routine!

Repurchase? Yes

Grown Alchemist Intensive Body Exfoliatior [Review]

I picked this up in TK Maxx in late February and it got reviewed in a new in the shower series, this is a pricey body scrub and I was really hoping that this would be as Intense as the name promised but sadly it was a total let down. It had a nice creamy base but the scrub was so fine it had no scrub to it at all. Considering the full price of this (not the price I picked it up at tk maxx) is £38 quid, it was a complete let down.

Repurchase? Nope, not even at the £8.99 cheap price!

Original Source Lime and Coconut Shower Gel

I normally find Original Source ” a bit much” but this one was much more mellow. I liked this one as it felt quite creamy too and I found that my skin felt quite soft afterwards.

Repurchase? Maybe yes but have so many shower gels to get through I won’t need to pick any up any time soon!

Skincare

REN Perfect Canvas Gel Cleanser
This was a GWP with some online purchases made, and I wasn’t that keen on this – admittedly I probably got about 5 uses out of it, but I didn’t find it did the best job of removing makeup. It made my skin feel fresh when I had no makeup on, but sadly a lot of traces seemed to be left behind after a makeup day!
Repurchase? No!

Origins Ginzing Into the Glow Serum [Gifted]
When I was emailed if I wanted to try this serum, I expected that it would be a bigger sample, I think I managed 2 uses out of this. The only thing I can say was that the texture was nice and a non-sticky formula.
Repurchase? Yes.

Pixi H20 Skindrink [Gifted]
This came in a summer refresh kit from Pixi and sadly I think this might be the first Pixi skincare item that seems to have really disagreed with my skin. It had exactly the kind of texture I like for a day moisturiser with a gel like texture but it seemed to make my skin really greasy through the day to the point where I often felt so bad I would have to go wash my face. Okay for working at home, but would have been disastrous in the office!
Repurchase? No!

REN Flash Hydro Boost Emulsion [Review]
This has been my moisturiser of choice recently – I got it as a GWP when I spent over £50 on the REN website and preferred this to the moisturiser I actually purchased. It was nice and light and my skin seemed to lap it up. Probably need something more intense for winter, but this was lovely over summer and didn’t overload my oily prone skin.
Repurchase? Maybe, but have so many moisturisers in the cupboard to get through!

Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Serum [Review]
I’m so glad to see this finished off – I’ve had it on my products to finish up list from about this time last year. I’ve been using this so religiously this month, and I was so excited when it stopped pumping up more! I opened it up to see how the contraption worked and it’s an airless design that squeezes up every drop, so for a pricey serum you know you aren’t wasting product. I found this good and my skin seemed to like it, but I think I get similar effects from the religious use of Pixi Glow Tonic which is cheaper.
Repurchase? No, but I did enjoy using it.

Pixi Peel and Polish [Gifted]
Unlike the Skindrink, this is probably one of my favourite Pixi products I’ve tried! I have this on a review list of Pixi skincare which keeps getting pushed to the back to the pile of reviews but my skin always felt great after using this. Initially I put it in the shower to use as an exfoliator but that did the product a disservice, I found if I put it on before getting int he shower it would make my skin feel really nicely tight and then rinsing away it exfoliated the skin well and did leave the skin looking really glowy and feeling soft after.
Repurchase? Yes!

Dots for Spots [Gifted}
These were individual treatment dots to put onto blemishes, I found the effectiveness of these a bit mixed depending on spot type, on the type of spot that would come to a head I thought they were great and would help reduce and calm down, alterntively if you did pop a blemish it would also help draw anything left in out. However the spots I wanted it to help with most, those painful ones which never come to a head it did not. I’d be tempted to pick up another packet again (available on Amazon) as this packet lasted me almost a year as luckily I don’t suffer too badly with blemishes just to have in my cupboard for when needed. These are also very discreet looking and I had been known to go out wearing them as I’d look in the mirror and have been forgotten that I was wearing them as they’re a clear matte finish that just blends in with the skin.
Repurchase? Yes!

Haircare

L’Oreal Colorista Ombre Hair Dye
My hairdresser cancelled on me a week before I’d waited 2 months for an appointment and my ahir was so mousey and grown out I had to get something sorted out. This did a really good job on the ends but my own application let me down a little bit with a little bit of patchiness, however the tone is holding really well and I’m tempted to go over with a second go at the end of the month when I’ve had chance to not overload my locks. I have also been tempted to go dark chocolate brown for the first time in years and years as a change but when ever I deviate from blonde I end up regretting it and going back to ombre!
Repurchase? Maybe, stay tuned!

Beauty Pie Super Healthy Hair Shampoo [Review]
This took me well over a year to finish up, I didn’t like it at all and was glad to see the back of it. I found if I used it too regularly it made my hair too dried out. Not very nourishing at all, particularly when I compare it to the next shampoo!
Repurchase? No. Never again.

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo 500ml
I talk about this all the time, does an amazing job of nourishing my hair whilst also taming my roots which tend to get greasy quickly. I always go back to this shampoo! One of my two all time fave shampoos.
Repurchase? Yes, already using another bottle in the shower!

Cien Gloss Shine Conditioner
I bought two of these at once from Lidl on a rare trip in. Absolutely awful, thin and not nourishing at all. Never again.
Repurchase? Erm, no.

Girlz Only Party Nights Dry Shampoo
This is a fairly good budget friendly dry shampoo, not the best thing I’ve used but also a fraction of the cost – it’s okay and smelt nice. It’s something you can pick up in Tesco only I believe, if I was in need of stocking up again whilst in Tesco (which is a rarity as I’m a Sainsbury’s girl) I’d grab another can.
Repurchase? Maybe!

Phew, we’re done – let me know if you’ve tried any of these before, let me know what you’re trying to finish up at the moment. I think I need to cherry pick some new items out to concentrate on to finish up. I think next year I want do do a proper project pan project with makeup items as I’ve been using them much less this year.

That Colorista line from L’Oreal is a total hit, I used their semi permanent colors on my hair and they held up well, unfortunately I think they are discontinued now. Good to see I could re touch my balayage with this set though . Chocolate brown for autumn πŸ‘Œβ˜ΊοΈ

I used the Indigo colour from that line and it trashed my hair completely and went grey then washed out to green. Total disaster. I can’t make up my mind what to do with it, I always have regretted going anything but blonde when I’ve tried it and then it costs a fortune to get it back blonde again, but I am tempted for a change of something different!

That’s not funπŸ˜” I used their teal and when it started to wash out I had to go red to neutralize the pigment. I always go with midtones so it’s ok, but yes, if you want to stay blonde you need to bleach it again and it still looks kind of off. Warmtones were all good, but I have a bit of ginger in me so it washes off into a nice peach
whatever I put on, from red and pink to violet 😁

The Calvin Klein fragrance sounds beautiful, definitely one I might look at picking up when I’m after a new fragrance. Don’t think I’ve tried any of these products but as always well done on finishing up so much!

Yes I think we like quite similar fragrances so I think you’d enjoy it!

The CK perfume to you sounds like what the Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume is to me – just something from my younger years! I love how scent can be so nostalgic.

I have never actually tried CYO before but then again, there are a tonne of brands I still haven’t tried out.

The Cien shampoo sounds absolutely horrendous. I generally avoid buying cheap shampoos (although I have just been sticking to the one brand as I’m extremely picky with hair products).
