I would never have picked up the original ‘The Nudes’ from Maybelline (review here if you missed it!) had I have not received it in a bundle of Maybelline goodies back in October, but I’ve surprised myself just how much I’ve been going to reach for it, so I decided I wanted to pick up the newer ‘The Nudes Blushed’ version.
One of the things I love about the original palette is that it has a bit of everything, mattes, subtle shimmers to full blown metallics – it’s compact and really handy for travel. First things I noticed was that on the surface there looks to be more product, side by side the pans are a lot bigger on the Blushed version – and you do get a gram more product overall.Instead of a dual ended sponge applicator you’re blessed with a sponge and a brush – not fantastic but it’s actually not that horrendous for blending.
But the most obvious difference between the two is that the blushed palettes is made up entirely of shimmers – beautiful shimmers – don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t feel like the same catch all palette that was handy for throwing in my handbag for nights away, as the other version did. There is one shade which is two semi matte shades both of which are pale, and both still have hints of subtle microglitter running through.
Top Row – 1-3 Shimmers, 4 & 5 Semi Matte, 6 Dark Brown with some chunky Gold Glitter
Bottom Row – All Shimmers
In the original Nudes palette there were a few colours which were a bit on the chalky side – but still workable. But this palette is so buttery, completely reminiscent of the likes of Urban Decay’s shadows – all are incredibly pigmented too and the swatches are just 1 swipe across the arm.
Personally I could have coped with 1 or 2 of the light shimmery shades from the top row, but I know there’s people who love these kind of shades and I guess they’re all different enough.to warrant 3 shades. I’m very besotted with the bottom row – particularly the coppery shade that’s first, and the reddy/brown next to the one on the end.
I’m planning on doing some looks with this palette in a separate post, like I did in my Nudes Post. Let me know if there’s any particular colours which you want to see featured.
Have you tried this or the original Nudes palette? Let me know your thoughts on them if so.
