January 2020 Empties

January 2020 Empties

I had decided last year that this year I was going to attempt to film my empties as a way of mixing these posts up – I’ve been doing empties posts for 6 years now. But my January 2020 Empties would win an award for probably the most boring I’ve ever had! I really didn’t finish up much this month and most of it was essential type products I run though pretty easily. So we’ll hold off on that until we have something more exciting to share.

For the past few years I’ve kept saying at points “I think my empties will slow down now, as I’m starting afresh on a lot of new products”. And it seems like finally that statement has been true this month. I’ve very rarely worn makeup this month usually just once a week, twice at a push, and I’ve been working through a lot of full or new skincare!

January 2020 Empties - Rodial and Beauty Pie Uber Youth Eye Cream

Rodial Dragons Blood Hyaluronic Tonic
I finished another one of these back in December – I’m now using spray toners through the day when I am working at home. This was okay but nothing too spectacular. I didn’t find it as moisturising as I would like.
Repurchase? No, I would use it again if I got in a beauty box etc, but wouldn’t repurchase.

Beauty Pie Uber Youth Eye Cream (Review)
The first of the three eye creams from Beauty Pie I finished up, I found this one to be the best all rounder for me and was just a nice and moisturising eye cream that would be great in the day under makeup but also worked well at night time. I am currently using the QI energy one from the Beauty Pie range, but would consider this again in future.
Repurchase? Maybe if I felt like it was the one most suited to my skin needs when I need to repurchase an eye cream.

January 2020 Empties - Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
Just the best highstreet conditioner, makes my hair super soft and shiny. Paired with the miracle moist shampoo they are haircare perfection for me.
Repurchase? Yes… although I am finding conflicting information as to whether Aussie is cruelty free. I need to do more research. Aussie will be the brand I most miss when I’ve finished other products in my cupboard.

January 2020 Empties - Primark Cotton Pads

Primark Wipe Off! 100 Oval Cosmetic Pads
Didn’t love these for makeup I found them a little thin and flimsy, they didn’t create fluff though. They were okay for removing nail polish, but were average for use with micellar water and toners.
Repurchase? Maybe, I have switched to reusable cotton pads but don’t like the idea of using them for nails (acetone being mixed in with clothes/going on the eyes etc). So I will keep cotton pads on hand for nails only. These were fine for nails so I might pick them up again.

January 2020 Empties - Anovia Coffee Body Scrub Review

Nivea Wild & Free Shower Cream [Gifted by Superdrug]
We loved this! It had a really lovely scent that was fruity and citrus all at once. The creamy texture felt really lovely on the skin and I felt nourished and clean afterwards.
Repurchase? Sadly no, not Cruelty Free!

Anovia Coffee Scrub
I picked this up in budget drugstore Savers which I rarely shop in (but Ben loves it), this was pretty cheap for a coffee scrub which can easily be upwards of £10 – I think this was £1.99 in Savers but I’ve seen it online for around £2.99 – so it’s definitely a cheap one. This one does work really well as a scrub and it’s a nice soft and non scratchy texture, however the coconut in this left such a greasy residue. I almost felt like I needed a second scrub to get off the coconut oil!
Repurchase? No although apparently their salt scrub is great, so I might give that a try if I see that in future, but I don’t need a scrub at the moment I’m using one from The Body Shop.

January 2020 Empties - Carmex and Hand CreamCarmex Lip Balm
Just the best lip balm! Nothing beats this for me and the soft tingling feeling makes me know it’s working. I had really dry lips at the start of the month and this is what cured it!
Repurchase? Yes, but need to finish others off first!

L’Occitane Shea Hand Cream
I got this as a mini in my advent calendar and I left it out on my desk and it easily got finished up in a few weeks. I particularly like L’Occitane for their mini hand creams as they tuck into handbags well and come in some lovely scents.
Repurchase? I do have a full size massive tube in my cupboard to finish, however they are not cruelty free – so I won’t repurchase in future.

A rather measly little January 2020 Empties for me, finishing £33.54 of product. But I hope you enjoyed it anyway, as you’ll probably expect I’m tracking my empties in my spreadsheet as per usual. I’ve added a new option to the repurchase column on my spreadsheet which is No – Not CF (Cruelty Free) these are items I would repurchase but are unable to as they are not a Cruelty Free brand – you can then choose to take that as your own as to whether you want to purchase or not.

I don’t plan to trashtalk any products that are not cruelty free and review them as the product and a way to get me to use products up will be review anything in my collection (if I want to), but I will be making it very clear from now on what is CF and what isn’t – I’ve tried to do this in the past but can be forgetful!

What are you trying to finish at the moment?

I managed to finish up a few things, though not as many as I had hoped – I’m so close to finishing up a few moisturizers!

Finishing a moisturiser is the most successful feeling I think!

The small size of the L’Occitane hand cream seems like a decent size. I’ve never tried any of their products before, there aren’t many stores in NZ I don’t think. I’ve never tried Carmex either but thankfully I don’t suffer with dry lips. Your empties videos would be super interesting!

I’ve never bought much from them – we tend to be able to get freebies of L’Occitaine in magazines a couple of times a year, which is a nice way to try things out. I think because they are a french brand they must be quite appealing to the chinese market, it’s a shame to find out that they aren’t CF. I only get dry lips when the weather starts changing – doesn’t matter which way it seems to just happen as the seasons do for a few weeks – it’s only in the past year that I’ve really noticed how good Carmex is for getting my lips back to good condition quickly.

I’ve seen some people use the reusable cotton pads for nail polish and I definitely cannot bring myself to do it! I didn’t even think about how horrifying it would be to have glitter in the wash with all my other clothes, was more concerned about ruining the pads. Definitely not going to try it out now, yikes. Trying to track what’s cruelty-free and what isn’t can be so difficult, good on you for trying to!

Switching to CF is going to be a challenge – I didn’t even realise that it stretched into all the mainstream toothpaste brands etc too!
Yeah I don’t like the idea of glitter or acetone going around with my clothes – but I feel like washing separately would end up defying the point of trying to be eco friendly too! I have seen that someone has created something that you leave soaking in acetone and the polish eventually fades, but it’s not going to help the glitter situation!

Oh yes, I know, so many things can be tested on animals, it’s crazy. Just a few months ago I had the epiphany that household products like cleaners can be CF… so many things to find replacements for!

I’m not at the point where I want to give up glitter polishes (who would?) so cotton pads it is for now :]

My Empties bag is huge at the moment and is currently enclosed in a Zara carrier. I handled it the other day it is as heavy as it looks. It has been a good month in emptying some products for me!

I love that Carmix lip balm! At some point, I kept buying lip balms so now I have about 4 that I’ve opened (although I only really actively use 2). It’s safe to say that I won’t be buying anymore until further notice… such an easy thing to buy though when it’s deemed a necessity.

Lip balms can often be placed in eye lines at tills/queuing areas and I found if I didn’t have one in my bag and my lips were even the smallest bit dry I would pick one up!
