Grounded Chocolate Orange Coffee Scrub Review

It’s not very often that I find my friends asking me if I’ve tried something and then going out of their way to recommend it if they have (other than my blog buddies – you guys recommend stuff on a daily basis!). So when they do – I know it’s something that I do quite literally have to try. When one of my friends recently asked if I’d tried the Coffee Scrubs from Grounded I knew I had to try it immediately. As I was going to order one from Boots, I spotted the new Latest in Beauty Glamour Summer edit box featured a sample of the scrub I was about to try.

Last year I fell in love with a Coffee Scrub from Mr Bean, which I picked out from Love Me Beauty. When it came to replace it, I really struggled to find anything to replace it with in the UK market, Mr Bean was an Australian brand and didn’t ship to the UK – so I sadly turned back to normal scrubs. I was literally quite ecstatic when she told me there was another on the market, and it was easy to get your hands on being stocked in Boots.

Full sizes are priced at £15 – so yes a much more premium price for a body scrub than what I’d used to be paying. The grounded scrubs currently come in 3 mouthwateringly good scented varieties, Grapefruit, Coconut and the one I have Chocolate Orange. In all 3 (or at least the Coconut one which my friend has, and this one) – there is an underlying scent of Coffee. If you really can not stand the scent of Coffee, then these probably still won’t be for you. Whilst I’m not a coffee drinker – I don’t dislike the scent of coffee and actually quite enjoy how it will make my shower room smell like a Starbucks for the next 3 days after using. The Chocolate orange one when you first open it does smell like a proper chocolatey-orangey mix but actually when you come to rub it in your skin I find the chocolate scent much less noticeable with more prominence on the orange.

The caffeine and anti-oxidants in coffee is as I’m sure you know good for stimulating the skin and is reported to help reduce signs of cellulite, I’ve never used one long enough to notice if that is the case. Coffee granules are hard enough to do a good job of exfoliating, whilst soft enough to use frequently and it not feel like you are constantly stripping your skin and making it feel raw. Another reason I like these coffee scrubs is because they don’t break or melt down, you can use really sparingly and really spread and move it across your body. One downside is that you have to leave this on your skin for 10 – 15 minutes to start seeing those effects, that’s a lot of time to kill in a shower avoiding the water in the cold, but regardless just as a body scrub I prefer this over anything else.

This one from what I remember feels both finer and drier than the one I previously tried from Mr. Bean – and I think I prefer this one. It leaves the skin feeling really smooth but not stripped, it’s something that’s good enough to use regularly, but I try to restrict myself to just once a week due to the premium price point – but if I had a choice I’d be slavering myself with this every shower!

The only downside of using coffee scrubs in my opinion is the clean up – it gets all over your shower and after you’ve finished you do need to spend a good five minutes cleaning up. The one thing I wouldn’t do with these is use them in the bath – unless you fancy brewing yourself in a giant cup of coffee.

One thing I’m not so keen on is the packaging, the outer of this has a papery type feel which whilst it looks nice and pretty, means that it doesn’t feel totally practical to keep in the shower. I’d much prefer this in a pot or jar, I think it would be much easier to get the product out as well.

Overall I’m really impressed with this and can already see myself purchasing another of these. I’ve also spotted on the Grounded website a rather delicious sounding hair mask – scented with Coconut and Lime (yum!), and some coffee facial scrubs which I’m totally eyeing up to get my hands on as well!

Let me know if you’ve tried any coffee scrubs and what your thoughts on them are.

This sounds amazing! I’m also not a coffee drinker but love the scent of it. All three scents sound delicious!

I refuse to stand naked avoiding the water to leave this scrub on for 10-15 mins! 😮
    And the mess! 😡
My skin better to be like JLo’s after I use a coffee scrub if I ever do decide to get in on this trend! 😛

Enjoyed your review. I said the same thing about waiting around with this scrub on. I wish it would work without waiting 10-15 mins. And the cleaning up. My shower was broke so cleaning out the bath after using this. Eek haha x

Sounds amazing, coffee and orange are an amazing combination.
I tried and love something incredibly similar the other day by beanburst, but I am not sure how easy it would be for you to get that one.
