Products I’m Trying to Use Up – Spring 2019

It’s been several months since my last list of “Products I’m Trying To Use Up”, once I’d took a look over my last list I was pleased to see that I’d managed to finish up most already – so I went through my drawers to cherry pick some new products to try and get finished off.

For those who aren’t aware, this is my version of Project Pan – I pick items out seasonally and have been doing this for a few years now. I’ve had good success with having a short list of products I’m trying to finish, and it gives me the opportunity to swap something in and out depending on how my hair/skin and tastes change through the year. I tend to only pick one item of each type so I’m not left with an impossible task of trying to finish off three foundations.

Haircare

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap
This is a brand new and unopened product in my drawer – I’ve always had good intentions about using it, but it tends to be something I always forget. I’m sick of seeing it rolling around in my haircare unused, so I’ve took this night time treatment to my bedside table as I think I could be more likely to use it once or twice a week if it’s kept with my skincare. As it’s brand new I have no thoughts about this at all – so I’m hoping it’s good (and easy to finish!).
Swell Ultimate Protect & Renew Serum (review)
This was only a product I recently tried and I’m not particularly enjoying it! I like serums and oils when I’m brushing my hair out when wet and this one seems to make it really difficult. I’ve been using this after I’ve managed to de-knot my hair but haven’t been particularly impressed with the results it’s given my hair. I’m seem to have made it over half way through the tube though, so it would be nice to get it completely finished!

Fragrance

Lancome La Nuit Tresor Perfume (Review)
This is one of my favourite perfumes and I’ve been saving the last few uses of it – probably for too long as I don’t want to have to purchase a new one. I’m going to save it for a few last special occasions over the next few weeks, I have a few weddings – including my sisters coming up so I think I may saviour the last few uses of this for those special occasions. I would 100% repurchase this again, but I have a lot of perfume I’m trying to get through at the moment. I’m saving my Boots points carefully to splurge on it again when I get the chance!

Skincare

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
This did feature on these lists a few times last year and it’s always fallen to the back of drawers, shelves and cupboards. I’ve had this back on my bedside for a few weeks and I have been picking it up a bit more, I have been enjoying using it – but I’ve now had it for about two years – so I’m hoping that has now got me on the track for finishing as whilst I’m not finding it unenjoyable to use, I’m also damn sick of the sight of it!
Beauty Pie Plantastic Cleansing Balm (review)
I’ve finished the other two cleansers that I purchased and reviewed as a trio from Beauty Pie and this one is the last one standing. Cleansers I don’t use in the shower are always the ones which linger the most in my collection for me as I’d only say it’s a couple of days a weeks that I don’t cleanse in the shower. Whilst I do like this, I’d like to see it finished and complete as I have so many other cleansers in my cupboard and I’d like to get that stash down!

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (review)
This stuff is bloody brilliant, and its featured on this list the last time too. It’s not been finished from a lack of trying – this product goes so far – I’ve been using this 3-5 times a week and it’s still not finished. I’d guess at this point I’ve had in excess of 100 uses from this tube – which has made it incredible value for money and one I’d definitely buy again – once my other overnight masks have been finished off. I think I am really close now (although I’m sure I’ve thought that before!) but I had to include it in this list as there’s been so much determination put into this already!
Filorga Time Filler Eyes (review)
This product seems to be lasting for ages – I’ve been down to the last quarter or so for a while, but the last little bits don’t seem to be going far. I am testing out another eye cream at the moment to, but switching back to this one a few times a week to try and get it finished off – but again – I’d love to see it finished! I’ve had it on the go since October!

Makeup

Becca Royal Glow Shimmering Skin Perfector (review)
This has been my go-to highlighter since the end of September and it’s getting close to being finished, the size of the pan on show seems to increase just a little every week and whilst I gave it a glowing review (get it?!), I’ll be happy to move onto one of the many other highlighters in my collection which have all been neglected since this ones arrival.
Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation
I thought I was going to like this foundation as I really liked the concealer from the same range, I’ve been using this on and off as my daily foundation for work and it just does not agree with my skin. It doesn’t last on my skin very well at all and I’m pretty sure when I use it five days a week it seems to break me out – I’ve switched to trying to finish it off once or twice a week, you can see how far I’ve gotten through the bottle, I’m determined to get it gone. I was going to review this but I’m pretty sure it’s in the process of being discontinued as it’s on sale heavily on Stila’s website.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Fawn Contour Powder
I finally hit pan on this at the end of month – I thought it was never going to happen. This has been my contour powder for pretty much a whole year and I can’t believe it’s taken this long for it to happen. I like this – it’s not my favourite thing I’ve used but is a nice natural colour as I don’t like anything too dark.
Makeup Geek Heart Throb Blush
This you wouldn’t guess that I’ve already been using daily since January, I go through phases with blush sometimes it’s in my routine, sometimes it’s not but I’ve used this every time I’ve worn makeup for months and it still looks untouched. I’ve not got the biggest blush collection as they take me probably the longest out of any makeup product to finish.

Colourpop Supershock Shadow in Valley Girl
This has gone a little bit crumbly – but it still seems to be applying fine at the moment so I’m trying to get it finished whilst it’s still okay in formula. I occasionally use this all over the lids when I’m in the rush – but I like it most in the inner corner and I tend to pull it out when a palette doesn’t have a really light bright shade. It would be great to try and complete it though, I never finish shadows!

And that’s all for this post, I’m hoping to see some of these products hitting my empties basket soon!

What products are you trying to finish up at the moment?

Wow, you have certainly done well with that Becca highlighter! How do you do it haha?! The Colourpop shadow doesn’t look like it has much left, I’m sure you’ll finish it in no time 🙂

I’m quite heavy handed with highlighter compared to other pressed powders – but I do pretty much stick to one at a time so it’s been on the go constantly since September!

I love your dedication! Especially with the foundation, I would have binned it by now lol

It’s the fact I can see the line where it’s full to and it’s so close to being empty – I used it this morning and actually used it over a heavy duty concealer and found it applied much better – I still wouldn’t repurchase though!

Maybe I might try that, I’ve got highlighters that are pretty versatile so it would work 🙂

        • April 9, 2019 / 10:25 am

I think this one has worked for me as the intensity can be built up but it can also look really natural, so I’ve got versatility of both!

I seriously need to try and finish my products as well…

Aren’t eyeshadows the absolute worst to finish off?! They take forever! But I guess that’s good value at the end of the day!

They’re definitely the product I finish off least often and find them the hardest to complete! I’m not very into neutrals at the moment either I’m liking bright monochrome looks so finishing this one feels like an even bigger challenge.

I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the Living Proof Shower Cap. I still haven’t tried anything from Beauty Pie yet. I’m trying to use up a blush.

I’ve been meaning to try out The Ordinary products for ages but lord knows why I keep putting it off! They get such great reviews too, and I’ve been looking for a brand that I can use daily!

I’m actually not fussed by the Ordinary at all – I prefer products that have been fully formulated rather than most which get you to play chemist with your routine. I have two products left from them in my collection that I’m concerntrating on finishing up, this one being the most important one to get gone as I’m sick of seeing it!

  8. April 8, 2019 / 8:15 pm

I have a hard time finishing up The Ordinary glycolic toning solution too! It’s not like it’s a terrible product but for some reason, I just don’t pick it up. I’m phasing into a new skincare routine soon so maybe I’ll try and fit it in.

Me 3 🤣 and now after my move, I don’t even know where it is.

    • April 9, 2019 / 10:14 am

I can see the end on it now – I’m hoping I can find the motivation to finish it off this time! I’m glad I’m the only one who just isn’t drawn to it either – I much prefer picking up my pixi!

  9. April 8, 2019 / 8:42 pm

Wow, you are almost done with that Becca highlight!
It has been 2 years and my Bobbi Brown hasn’t even shown me some dent. So giving up at this point.

    • April 9, 2019 / 10:17 am

I’m now three weeks on from taking these photos and it’s even closer to being done – but it’s got quite a thick bit around the edge! Oh man, that Bobbi brown brick has got so many lives.

That Origins Mask… wow! I like using overnight masks on my neck every other night, might have to pick that one up!’
I am trying to get through my stash of cleansers – I am so ready to settle on one, getting a little bit sick of testing a bunch out!

    • April 9, 2019 / 10:25 am

It goes so far – extremely good value for money – I used it last night and I think I’m pretty much there with it now, it was difficult to get out product. I might still take a knife to it though and I bet it might give me another few weeks of use haha!
I’m the same with cleansers – my Mum was laughing at my collection of them at the weekend, I’m so ready for the collection to be cleared down!
