Glossybox January 2019 – Resolutions Edition

Glossybox January 2019 – Resolutions Edition

Well, here we are – my third Glossybox since my resubscription. I decided I was going to give it three months to see the ups and the downs of the service and decide whether I would be continuing to subscribe for another few months or not. This months box theme is predictably, Resolutions. January has arrived and it’s out with the bad habits, and in with the good.

I’m on a no-buy this month and this was my only beauty treat, so I was hoping for a bunch of goodies to keep me excited through the month. This edit arrived in their classic pink box – no limited editions this time around, so we’ll hop straight in to talking about what came inside the box…

Avant Hyaluronic Acid Vivifying Face and Eye Cream
Full Size // RRP £98
Resolution: I will moisturise my skin every night

This product clearly makes up the bulk of the value of this box, and let’s be honest – no one has heard of this brand. I have a few issues with it’s inclusion. If I’m going to spend that much on skincare, it would be from a better known brand, and I highly doubt that anyone who gets Glossybox would be thinking of repurchasing this – I think the £30-40 mark would have been a more palatable price for people looking to splash the cash whilst remaining more realistic.

Secondly the full size of this product comes much nicer packaged – there’s no cheap plastic tube, it comes in a glass jar and in a lovely looking box. If you’re spending that much on beauty it’s also about the vanity of the experience, and this isn’t sample isn’t about the experience.

My skin loves Hyaluronic Acid, so I’m not completely disappointed in it’s inclusion. This is a moisturiser which includes Vitamin B3, Hyaluronic Acid and Maris Aqua (that’s just sea water and they’re trying to justify that price tag). On the card they haven’t gone into any detail about just what makes this Hyaluronic Acid special and that’s an issue for me – HA is an ingredient available in the cheapest of skincare ranges and I don’t know why this is 10 times better than the cheaper options out there!

Batiste Rethink Dry Shampoo
Deluxe Size // RRP £1.50
Resolution: I will try a brand new haircare range

Batiste has had a mini makeover and added a few new bottles to their lines targeting different problems – Volume, Hydrate, Volume and Damage Control. I had a miniature bottle of the Damage Control version which contains added Keratin to help strengthen the hair alongside your normal dry shampoo routine. I thoroughly dislike any Batiste product that I’ve tried as I find they leave horrendous residue, but this says it’s invisible The jury is well and truly out for me – I will report back in an empties.

Wilkinson Sword Eyebrow Shaper
Full Size // RRP £3.99
Resolution: I will try a new tool to shake up my beauty routine

A little bit of a strange one for me – I do have to say that I’ve not tried something like this before – and nor do I think I trust myself either! I reckon the majority of people who subscribe to beauty boxes probably get their eyebrows done professionally, it’s one thing having a pair of tweezers which you can multi use for false lashes or tweezing out the odd stray eyebrow, but this is quite specific for me. As soon as I’ve finished this post I will be googling “alternative uses for eyebrow shapers”.

HASK Repairing Deep Conditioner
Full Size Single Use Sachet // RRP £2.49
Resolution: I will use a hair mask each week

HASK is a brand I’ve tried a few bits from in the past – my first thought with this was I’m pretty sure I can pick this up in the Poundshop or Primark for cheaper than listed – but alas, it is the RRP price on Boots and Superdrug. Personally I don’t think I’d pay £2.49 for a single use hair mask, as I’m not sure this will even cover all of my hair, but at least I’ve seen that it does have a positive rating online – so I’m now expecting big things. This was box filler for me though, I think they could have included a pack of three or something!

-417 Facial Micro Luffa Foaming Gel
Deluxe Sample Size (100ml) // RRP £13.31
Resolution: I will cleanse my skin morning and night

This is probably the item in the box which has me most intrigued, I’ve not heard of this brand before – but it’s a really good sample size (the full size is a huge 200ml!). This brand seems to have a little bit of an odd story when you read up on it (sculptor owner turned skincare whizz) and seems to be sold mostly in Eastern Europe and countries like Russia. Using minerals and ingredients from the dead sea as the focus for this line I’m interested to see how this works as it has lots of amazing ingredients and vitamins listed on the website so I may report back in with a separate review on this!

February’s item tease almost tempted me to stay subscribed for another month, however I’m going to skip as I want to stay focussed on finishing a few items off – a Huda Lip Contour Pencil (worth £16), but the reality is, I just don’t use lip liners and whilst I like Huda, and it’s a fab brand to see in a subscription box – the item just isn’t for me. If you want to give Glossybox a try you can get 20% off your first box using my referral code which you can find by clicking on here.  Which will make your first box £8 + delivery.

Iā€™m a big fan of Hask. Iā€™m currently using their Monoi Coconut shampoo/conditioner & styling cream oil, plus the Argan Oil 5-in-1 spray. I love how my hair smells like coconut even a day or 2 after washing.

Ooh Monoi does sound intriguing, I’ve never seen anything here (at least in stores!) that’s anything but their oils and hair masks. I’ve never seen shampoo/conditioner or anything styling!

Personally I’d be disappointed if I had this box! Definitely a bit of a pants one. I love Batiste and would be intrigued by the Damage Control one so looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that! xxx

This box looks bad in my opinion. Definitely recommend Birchbox over this! Disappointing tbh šŸ’–

I really didn’t like Birchbox, I found that it may have been more impressive brands, but I found the samples too small to see if I actually liked them. I’d rather have more usable sizes – it’s not my favourite box that I’ve tried, but I definitely prefer it over Birchbox.

I was disappointed with this months box as well. I think the fact they put such a luxury item in the box, made the other boxes just box fillers. Xx

Completely agree, and if you wasn’t impressed with that one item then there wasn’t much else to sway your interest!
