Ten Empties #24

Ten Empties #24

It slightly annoys me that I didn’t quite make 25 Ten Empties posts for the end of the year. But I was keen to get this box of rubbish out of the way before the New Year, I’d hoped to get this up before Christmas but after a few last minute dramas (cooker going pop days before you’re due to host for three days in a row!). I’m going to do a separate roundup on stats from my Ten Empties experiment this year and how I’m going to take it forward next year, but for now let’s admire these empty bottles – there’s quite a lot of extras this time too!

Skincare

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap (review)
I’ve been through bottles and bottles of this stuff over the last few years I’ve found out of everything I own this is the best for keeping breakouts at bay for me when my skin is being problematic. Touch wood, this year my skin has been a lot better and it’s taken me almost a whole year to finish this bottle. It’s super calming on the skin and is a second step cleanse, but I love this product and will be back for it in future.
Repurchase? Not immediately but as soon as I’ve got signs of a pesky persistant blemish it will be on next day delivery from Beauty Bay.

Garnier Micellar Water
This is the one I always go back to, it was my first time buying a giant bottle so it’s been ages since my last one of these featured in an empties, but I’ll always go back to it! My guess is that of the various sizes you can buy in this, this is probably my 20th bottle.
Repurchase? Already have, and will, forever probably.

Vitamasques Cosmic Pink Glitter Peel off Mask
I am hoping to get a Face Mask Friday written up straight after this! This came in my December Glossybox and is from a K-Beauty Brand. It was a pink shimmering peel off mask – more details to follow in the review!
Repurchase? Unlikely

Prai Ageless Neck and Decollatage Creme
This had such a weird texture it was super light and had this bouncy gel cream texture that massaged in to the skin well. I used it as intended on the neck, I’m not sure I was the intended age group but liked it enough to consider using it in future if required as it also has good reviews online.
Repurchase? Maybe.

Filorga Micellar Water
I got this in my advent calendar this year and took it away for me on a weekend away and finished it off when I came back. This was no where near as good as the far cheaper Garnier water as it didn’t remove makeup as easily, however I’m saving the bottle for decanting from that massive bottle in future as it’s the perfect size for a week away.
Repurchase? No

Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream
I liked this as a morning moisturiser it was richer than I normally go for but found it sank in quickly and didn’t disrupt my.
Repurchase? Unlikely

Green People Vita Min Fix Moisturiser
I’ve been trying to work my way through some of my mini moisturisers since moving, when I unpacked and organised my new massive skincare cupboard I realised just how many I had. Thinking that I’m saving them for travel (but have way too many for how often I actually travel!) this was one of my first choices. This was nice enough but I found it too greasy for me with oily skin to use in the day time so it was used at night instead. Pretty inoffensive and basic moisturiser that was light feeling.
Repurchase? No

Context Microdermabrasion Regenerator
This was a two in one cleanser and exfoliator. I found this absolutely terrible at cleansing the skin from start to finish as it didn’t remove makeup well at all. But it was okay as an exfoliator.
Repurchase? No

Makeup

Kat Von D Lock it Foundation (review)
This was my favourite foundation for a while but earlier in the year I decided I didn’t want to support the brand any more, the hunt became on for a suitable replacement and I discovered the Jouer Foundation gave me the high coverage, long lasting matte effect that works perfectly for my oily skin, so I finished up my last KVD and don’t plan to head back.
Repurchase? Highly Unlikely

W7 Set it Up Setting Powder
This was my second one of these and I quite like it as a budget powder. It’s white and works really well for setting makeup all over.
Repurchase? Yes, but not currently as I have a few to finish up.

Bobbi Brown Enriched Face Base
I heard this was a great primer but sadly it just didn’t work for my oily skin. I’m glad that I picked it up as part of my Bobbi Brown ASOS box as I had it on my to try list so I’ve saved myself some money whilst also got two weeks trial from this pot.
Repurchase? No

Givenchy Couture Noir Mascara (review)
I’ve had this a few times before and whilst it’s a mascara I wouldn’t buy I’m always happy to use it when it arrives. I find that this is lengthening and adds a bit of volume but not as much as I’d like. The shape of the brush provides good lift and curl I find too. It’s a good all rounder, but for the price there’s things I prefer instead.
Repurchase? No

Haircare

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo
My favourite shampoo by far, this makes my hair so soft and clean and it’s not too expensive
Repurchase? Yes, already have!

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner
I tend to pick this up every so often when I’m repurchasing my shampoo depending on what the deals that are running are on it. I like this and find it effective as a conditioner.
Repurchase? Yes, but not immediately.

Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo
My second bottle of this in recent months, I got this in a recent beauty box and was happy to use it for a second time. I do really like this but it’s not cheap for a dry shampoo and I need to use it far more frequently due to having greasy roots I need to use it on day two hair.
Repurchase? Unlikely, but I recommend if you’ve wanted to try it.

Bodycare

Right Guard Magic Oil Shower Gel
I was hoping to find that this would be a luxe feeling shower oil at a budget price but sadly not. The scent was pretty light (it didn’t have the lingering scent the bottle promised!) and the oil was pretty thin and was more like a normal shower gel texture. I wouldn’t avoid it, but I don’t plan to hand it out.
Repurchase? Maybe

Soap and Glory Heel Genius Foot Cream
I think I got this in a beauty box and has been the current choice for use up on my feet. It definitely needs socks putting on after as it feels a little greasy and needs time to fully sink in, but overnight it helps make the feet feel softer. I know some people rave about this but I found it average – not really any better than any other moisturiser.
Repurchase? Probably not

Kneipp Joint and Muscle Bath Crystals Arnica
I was kindly sent this to try and used it in a very rare for me bath after I fell over and hurt my knee, I was feeling pretty achy the next day after a long day walking around a city so tried this out and it did seem to help out. One thing to note, it’s bright yellow and makes the bath look like a massive wee!
Repurchase? Maybe, I’d keep it in mind if I ever got more into baths!

General Consumables

Wilko Maxi Oval Cotton Pads
Cheap, non-shedding and large. Just what I like in a cotton pad!
Repurchase? Yes

Extras

Garnier Ultra Rich Face Cream
I was sent a whole set of these which I thought I’d finished earlier in the year and found a stray sachet. Finally, I think they’re dead. Thoroughly average moisturiser.

Dolce and Gabbana The Only One Perfume
From my secret scent box this month, this was my favourite perfume from the box and I have my eye on it as a purchase as it’s the lovely gourmand scents I always gravitate towards.

Chanel Gabrielle Perfume
I’ve had this before and really like it, it’s a bit lighter from the brand and a bit more youthful. I’ll happily keep using samples that arrive for this!

Grow Gorgeous Thickening Hair and Scalp Mask
This came from by beauty advent calendar too, sadly I only got one use from this as my hair is so thick and long, but it seemed nice enough, I just didn’t have enough to form a full opinion.

Colgate Max White Toothpaste
Always included in empties as sometimes I’m sent them! This one was okay, I’d buy again!

My empties sheet for 2018 is now complete! I finished off almost 350 items in total and was a few pounds short from a whopping £2150. I’m going to be doing some analysis of my most used up products by type as well as overall (I suspect Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo might be my most finished!) as well as what whether I would mostly say yes, no or maybe to repurchasing! You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here, and If you love an empties post and you haven’t been keeping up you can click here to see my Ten Empties series so far.

Hope you have a very happy new year, and I’ll likely be seeing you next on the flip side!

I see Micellar water on like everyone’s list, I must try it out!

The Aussie shampoo is definitely on my to-try list for next year! I have enough shampoo to last me for a good half of the year though however I’ll try and get the Aussie shampoo set when there’s an offer going on.
I am dying to throw out my empties too before the new year but need to take pictures. Probably the downside of formulating an Empties post because you are literally collecting rubbish for a period of time. 😂

I used to have a basket under my dressing table and it would bug me a lot – I think at that point I was better at keeping on top of doi ng them as I could see and count when they got to 10, but now I’ve got space in a bathroom cupboard since we moved – I now can’t see that pile!
Yes definitely give it a try, wow you’ve collected a lot of shampoo, a few years ago I had a whole shelf and managed to get all the way through it!

Good to know about Heel Genius, I’ve become a bit of a Soap & Glory fan (love Hand Food) but will probably be skipping that. My feet need stuff that packs a serious punch for whatever reason.
Those bath salts with arnica are so intriguing, I’ve heard arnica is great for injuries!

I think Handfood would work better on the feet than heel genius to be honest, it’s a thicker formula and heel genius is a little thinner – I don’t find it as good.
I’ve used arnica on scars before as a healer and it does work persistantly, not used it in a bath before but did seem to help!

I just got a sample of the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream and I’m looking forward to trying it.
I wonder if the brand Kat Von D will survive… so many people stopped buying it and I noticed a lot of her products on clearance on Sephora.
So amazing at the number of products you finished up – and shocking at the value of them too!
    Happy new year Rachael!
