Ten Empties #23

Ten Empties #23

It’s definitely been my longest gap between Empties posts this year – I’ve been a little distracted with moving over the past few weeks but that doesn’t meant that I stopped collating my empties in the meantime. I have a “few” more products than ten featured in this edition, but I wanted to get it out the way in one big swoop.  So here we are and buckle in for what will probably be my last for the year and I start a fresh spreadsheet again!

General Consumables

Basic Beauty Tools Spongeclean (review)
This is what I’ve been using to clean my makeup sponges and brushes for the past few months and I found it excellent. In the new year I’m going to treat myself to some long overdue new sponges and I’ll be stocking up on this at the same time.
Repurchase? Yes.

Primark PS Blend and Cleanse
I’ve had this for ages and only rediscovered it whilst moving, unlike the above, this was near on useless. For a spot cleansing spray it didn’t dry the brush quick enough and nor did it clean it well enough. The spray was also so temperamental I ended up dipping brushes in by the time I was half way through.
Repurchase? No

Wilko Maxi Oval Dual Faced Cotton Pads
If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know that I like large cotton pads that don’t shed, and these passed the test. I don’t normally get mine in Wilko, but if I needed to stock up I’d get these again whilst I was there.
Repurchase? Yeppedy yep.

Skincare

Milk Makeup Face Mist
I found a load of stuff at the beginning of the year in TK Maxx from Milk Makeup – I was so excited and unfortunately out of the items I’ve tried thus far, I’ve just been really disappointed. Every time I spritzed this on my skin it aggravated it for a few minutes and once it settled down it felt like it did absolutely nothing for me. I think this has been discontinued and rightfully so. If you’ve had a good experience with this please let me know if the comments.
Repurchase? I think it’s clear that that’s an absolutely not.

Glow Lab Facial Serum
This was another TK Maxx purchase but more recent in September – I got my brands muddled and thought this was from Glow Recipe, but discovered it’s a New Zealand Supermarket Brand. Not super expensive, but for a serum it wasn’t intense enough for me – good as a teen starter serum, but I wouldn’t get this again if I saw it in TK Maxx as I whizzed through it so quickly as my skin needed a lot of it!
Repurchase? No but I think it’s suited for a younger teen skin.

Sand & Sky Pink Australian Clay Face Mask (review)
My most recent Face Mask Friday post and hip hip hooray I finished a face mask (I don’t think this tiny bottle should count, but I am counting it!). This was a nice clay mask that I found pretty effective. If you have other clay masks it doesn’t strike me as something out of the ordinary on the few uses I got from this – but if you’ve been eyeing this brand or need a new clay mask then this is one worth checking out.
Repurchase? I’d consider it if I didn’t have so many masks to use up!

Haircare

Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Coconut Milk Shampoo
I finished up the conditioner of this just before we moved and took me a good while longer to finish up the shampoo. This was okay but not my favourite think that I’ve tried from the newer Herbal Essences line, if you’re not a coconut fan the scent is very subtle and doesn’t linger in the hair so don’t let that put you off trying if you’re keen to.
Repurchase? Wouldn’t avoid, wouldn’t seek it out.

L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil Conditioner
This is pretty much the only L’Oreal product I will buy – when I can’t get my hands on anything else for a good price then this is what I turn to as I know it really works for my hair as a conditioner.
Repurchase? Sadly, probably.

Sainsbury’s My Hair Matters Bloom Dry Shampoo
I’m always on the hunt for budget dry shampoos as I need so much with my long thick hair I can finish some cans up pretty quickly. This wasn’t the worst thing I’d ever used, but it was a long way off the best too – I wouldn’t rush to repurchase, but if I was in a pinch and needed something and it was my only option to buy I wouldn’t run away either.
Repurchase? Maybe, but not actively

Garnier Almond Crush Yoghurt Hair Mask
Featured in a recent haul I know this had a few people curious – I thought this was a decent budget mask, especially if you can catch it whilst it’s on offer for £3 ish pounds. The pot is a bit deceiving and I found I got about 4 weekly treatments out of this, it looks a little bigger than it is. But it left the hair smelling and feeling nice.
Repurchase? Yes, probably!

Bleach London Silver Shampoo (review)
Wow I wrote the review for this way back in 2015! I think this works pretty decently and is the best that I’ve personally found “on the high street” but I much prefer the Fanola No Yellow Shampoo which isn’t much more expensive and you get a much bigger bottle – I featured that in my last ten empties overall and that’s the one I’d repurchase now. I’ve had this particular bleach bottle for years so I’m glad to see that it’s finally finished and out of my shower clutter!
Repurchase? Wouldn’t avoid but probably wouldn’t rebuy now either.

Fragrance

M&S Sheer Radiance Perfume (review)
This was on my autumn use up list and I managed it! This was a nice every day fragrance that was good for layering, and would be a good fragrance to buy as gift as it’s not strongly scented it would be pretty unoffencive to most noses.
Repurchase? I’d happily use this again if I was to receive it in an advent calendar or something, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase for myself (I have so many perfumes, there’s really no need!)

Bodycare

Original Source Zingy Lime Shower Gel
This was intended to be our ‘guest shower gel’ so when people came round it would be a scent that would suit both male and females – we unexpectedly had to move into our spare room from our new house ensuite as the shower support broke within the first week of moving in. So this has been on the go for a few weeks and I’ve now moved “our” shower gels in. Nice would purchase again for the same reason (and it’s cheap!).
Repurchase? Yep!

Makeup

Stila Stay All Day Brow Pencil in Dark Brown x 2
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I thought I’d been working on just one of these at a time and discovered that I’d finished them both up within the same week! I knew I was nearing the end of one but was very surprised to see I’d managed to polish both off. This is my favourite brow pencil that I’ve tried and my local CCO stocks this for a lot cheaper than anywhere else, unfortunately they’ve not had the dark brown shade in for ages, so I’m now using up others in my collection in the hope I can swipe the shelves of that shade if it comes back in.
Repurchase? Yes, even at full price!

CoverFX Blurring Primer
I found a load of CoverFX stuff on the cheap in TK Maxx and my local CCO during summer and this is the only item that I’ve really been using so far. This is a porefessional-style silicone primer which I’ve found pretty good and found that I got a lot more product out the tube than I would with Benefits. At full price (£30) I wouldn’t get this again – but if I saw it again discounted I’d be tempted to snag it.
Repurchase? Maybe if at the right price.

Freedom Pro Glow Purr
Another item from my Autumn Use Up list that I was pleased to see finished. I did like this leopard print designed product but the packaging was broken so it was becoming a hassle in my drawer. This was an odd product, an almost three in one highlighter, bronzer and blush – it had pinky brown undertones so was a good half way house between a blush and a bronzer, but it also did have a glow to it too – so it was good three steps in one for when you was in a rush. I believe Too Faced are the OG for this product so maybe check that out if you’re looking for something similar.
Repurchase? Freedom is a discontinued line from TAM Beauty, so nope but wouldn’t anyway

Extras

Colgate Deep Clean Whitening
Standard Toothpaste but was blue and had gritty seeds in so tended to make a bit of a mess in the sink! Probably wouldn’t buy it again.

Glamglow Thirsty Mud Sachet
My favourite mask from Glamglow – I’m trying to finish up a few others before I crack open my next mini tube of this, but this is a great overnight mask!

Caudalie Vinosource Creme Sorbet
This gave me about a weeks worth of use, it was a nice cooling lightweight moisturiser. I have so many moisturisers I don’t need to repurchase any for quite some time – but it was nice to get one smaller tube out of my collection.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Intense
I was sent this vial to try which was nice as I’ve never owned or tried Coco Mademoiselle – I liked this intense version as it packed more of a punch so whilst it was very floral and feminine it was also bold and noticeable. I’d consider getting this in future (once my Perfume Collection has been depleted!)

My empties spreadsheet has filled up nicely and I’m now at over 300 items finished off and I’ve finally hit that £2,000 finished product mark that I thought I might hit this year. I’m going to cover off more stats and stuff at the end of the year as this Ten Empties has been a bit of a year-long experiment for me, and I’ll report back in on how it’s changed my feelings towards beauty, spreadsheet values etc. You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here, and If you love an empties post and you haven’t been keeping up you can click here to see my Ten Empties series so far.

What have you managed to clear out from your stash lately? If you’re doing a project pan let me know how you’re getting on and if you’re close to finishing too!
