Glossybox – November 2018

Glossybox – November 2018

Well Glossybox, it’s been a while hasn’t it? Glossybox was the first beauty subscription service in the UK and it launched around 2 years before I started blogging – I had a long run with the service about three years, but certain things started to bug me – and talking about my annoyances with Glossybox were the first non nail polish posts over here at HWD. Over the years I’ve been tempted to revisit, but there’s always been a different new box to try. Over the past 6 months or so I feel like lots of boxes have really dwindled in quality, but I’ve been increasingly interested in retrying out Glossybox again – so here we are.

I was tempted back in by this particular box as there was an item inside I knew I wanted and was guaranteed to get, and with a little discount code which ran at the start of the month – it gave a little £2 discount which meant including delivery the whole thing was £10.95 – which was still less than the retail price for that one item I was angling for.

The theme of this month’s edition was Beauty SOS, the idea being that it’s beauty products which will save the day no matter what the occasion. So in theory these should be reliable, good products – exactly what I want to discover in boxes like this.

Huda Liquid Matte Lipstick in Girlfriend – Full Size £18.00

This was the item I wanted – I have one Huda Liquid Lip that my blog gals got me for my Birthday and I enjoy the formula. I figured if this was the only thing in the box I liked it was still a really good saving off buying another full size. There were two colours you could have received, I think it would have been nice if you could of had a choice of colour – as one was a little paler than what I usually would go for, but the shades were Venus and Girlfriend. I received the shade girlfriend which was the paler of the two and looked a bit like concealer in the tube – but it did dry down darker to a nice peachy neutral.

The Wet Brush Pop Fold – Full Size £13.99

I’m a huge fan of the Wet Brush and have many now – this is probably my tenth? I’ve only had one wear out in the past 4/5 years and I’ve just kept buying more when I’ve seen them on special offer or to keep in a new location! I’ve got one of these folding ones already which I use for travel or for sometimes popping in my handbag. This has that soft touch feel and I think I’m going to take this to work and pop it in my drawer so I can brush my hair when I need to. I’ve definitely been lazy with my hair and it’s been messy bun central for the past few weeks – but I’m starting to have the patience for doing my hair and wearing makeup again… so this would be a good one to keep with me as my hair gets so knotty!

Context Micro-Derm Regenerator – Sample Size worth £6.50

The only skincare item in this box was this gel cleanser which comes with professional grade microdermabrasion crystals. I’ve already used this and it’s a nice gentle exfoliator and left my skin feeling nice. I can’t comment on how well it cleanses or removes makeup, since I wasn’t wearing any – so I’ll report back on this as part of an empties. It’s a fragrance free and cruelty free product, so a nice inclusion in the box.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Original Solid Formula – Sample Size worth £1.99

This is such a classic item and whilst I feel like I would have tried this at some point in my life – I genuinely have no recollection! This is a solid oil which melts down on the skin to a silky oil. It’s supposedly rich in vitamin E and cocoa butter so it should be really nourishing for the skin. It’s a nice little pot for your travel bag if this is a favourite of yours.

Stylondon Eyeshadow Palette in Eaton Square – Full Size £9.99

Last but not least is this gorgeous little palette from Stylondon,  I’ve definitely heard of this brand before, but not tried anything as far as I’m aware. This a similar size to the MAC times 9 palettes. Featuring three rows of colours of neutrals and wearable cranberry tones, it’s a great little selection from Autumn. I’ll report back on this at a future date, it swatches nicely for a budget palette (and better than that pesky MAC times 9 amber one!).

Bonus Item – Chloe Eau du Parfum Sample

A sixth item in the box was a nice little bonus, there were two options of Chloe fragrance which could have been received, the  newer Chloe Nomade (which I’ve had a sample of and liked in the past) and the original Chloe. which I always like when I sniff but I’ve never owned. It’s a classic perfume with subtle hint of rose.

I am suitably impressed with Glossybox and I’m going to give it another month to see how I feel. December boxes always seem to be the best in the beauty subscription world, so it would be rude to unsubscribe prior to some hopefully festive themed goodies. My issue in the past with Glossybox was repeats and also lack of quality sizes and brands, but from what I’ve seen they seem to have sorted themselves out over the past two years. It’s not the biggest staggering value box at just over £50.00, but I do have to remind myself that it’s a more budget box than what I’ve paid for over the past few years recently – and I like the variety that is in here. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have to offer going forward.

This box has sold out – but if you want to give Glossybox a try you can get 20% off your first box using my referral code which you can find by clicking on here.  Which will make your first box £8 + delivery.

Have you tried any of these items before? What do you think of this box? Let me know in the comments!

OMG I love how they put different things in everyone’s boxes! I open them monthly as well 🙂 I really wish mine had that wet brush… I live for those things!

Haha I do and I don’t love it – sometimes you end up feeling like you got the bad end of the stick. I do love a wet brush though so I was happy with mine this month! xxx

yeah.. that’s true. Sometimes beauty boxes are AMAZING and sometimes you’re left feeling really put out… and wishing you’d kept the £10-15 to pop down to Boots to buy some stuff of your own… x
