WetnWild Five Mini Reviews

WetnWild Five Mini Reviews

A good month or so ago I purchased a bunch of products from Beauty Bay not long after WetnWild was finally launched into the UK (somewhat, they don’t yet have any limited edition collections available). They’ve also since first launching on Beauty Bay, launched into Boots online too and have the same product selection, so the increase in availability is amazing (Beauty Bay is much cheaper than Boots though!).

For those who aren’t aware Wet N Wild is a very budget friendly brand from the US, I’ve seen a lot of favourable reviews over the years – as well as some bad ones – and it’s left me curious to the brand. It’s so low cost that even the bad products mean that there’s not much loss if things didn’t work out and I decided to try an array of treats from the brand to see what they had to offer. Initially I was going to do a full face of first impressions, but with a mascara and concealer overload I didn’t want to pick any more up – and I didn’t fancy any of the lip products that I saw.

So I picked up 5 items in total costing me a mere £23.50. I picked up their Photofocus Foundation, Megaglow Highlighting Powder, ColourIcon 10 Pan Palette, Liquid Catsuit Eyeshadow and an Eye Primer. I initially planned on doing a first impressions but I became quite distracted by other products I was trying to review, so some of these I’ve used on and off for about 4 weeks whilst others I’ve given a good try to over the past few weeks.

WetnWild Megaglow Highlighter in Precious Petals
Available from Boots Here £4.99 / Beauty Bay Here £3.75

This is the product which I’ve heard really amazing things about and when I saw these it was an easy decision to swipe them up. I had to resist picking up both shades, but with my next Beauty Bay order – I’ll be picking up the other). I opted for Precious Metals which in theory was just like most of my highlighters in tone, soft champagne – but oh my the finish of this is like nothing else I have. It’s got not an ounce of shimmer in it and creates the perfect subtle foil effect – it has this wet look finish. You can wear this subtly with a fan brush or go really hard with it and transform to a #SexyRobot and it delivers either way. I’m so staggered with how this performs and I’ve ditched my other favourites at the moment, some of which are about 8 times the price, and this is the one I’ve been reaching for.

The packaging isn’t fantastic – it’s nice, a little bit plasticy and I suspect at some point that hinge is going to snap off, I’d have happily have paid quadruple for this highlight, and for £3.75 you can’t expect much more – but I’d personally have dropped an extra quid or two just for improved packaging. This is well and truly a great demonstration that great makeup doesn’t have to be expensive.

WetnWild Colour Icon 10 Pan Palette in Rose in the Air
Available from Boots Here £4.99 / Beauty Bay Here £3.75

I have some of their old sized/formulas of these and they were pretty good for a budget product, so decided to get another one to try. This one reminded me of a very budget friendly version of ABH Modern Renaissance. Neutrals and pink tones mixed together and was the item I was probably most excited to try. I don’t know whether it’s just this shade way – I suspect not – but these are not as good as they used to be.

Swatched, the pigmentation of these is a bit patchy, not terrible for a product at this price point, but you can buy better from Revolution for an extra 25p, and get a lot more product in it too. It’s very rare that mattes in a palette are better than the metallics, shimmers and metallics are a formula that seems so easy to get right, but for the most part this palette is the other way round, a staggering amount so. The palette is mostly mattes – there’s a few shimmers inside – a champagne gold and a bronzed brown and they are so dusty, I had to build them up for the purposes of the swatches below as you just couldn’t see them.

All the shades in this palette need layering up as they apply very patchy on the eye, but the shimmers are so terrible you need about 4 layers before any amount of pigmentation starts to form using those shades. There’s a bit of fall out through the day but once it’s on, the colours don’t tend to move with a good primer underneath (see below), but man, what a disappointment this is. On one hand I always think how much can you expect for £3.75, but on the other hand other budget brands have set the bar so high when it comes to budget shadows, it either has to be good or don’t bother. The plasticy packaging can be excused, you don’t tend to get much better for the price than this – but the palette is small with not much product inside (you get almost double the product in Makeup Revolution Iconic palette). For me, this is definitely in the Don’t Bother camp, the old formula was much better.

WetnWild Photofocus Eye Primer
Available Beauty Bay Here £5.00 (Not on Boots)

This has had the most regular use and has been my go-to eye primer since it arrived, since I finished my last one off! I have been a loyal Urban Decay Primer potion fan for many years and never found a good cheap option that lives up to it, this one however does come pretty close. Packaging wise this reminds me of the Urban Decay (when they drop the doe-foot applicator), with a simple squeeze up nozzle. Texture wise it’s a little thinner in texture, but very similar in consistency. This really helps what I’d describe as a pretty shitty eye palette in terms of pigmentation well through the day. Shadows blend nicely on top and don’t really lose pigment through the day, it wasn’t enough when it came to the foily shadows in the ABH Norvina palette, but for day to day shadow usage, this is actually pretty spectacular for the low end of the market.

WetnWild Photofocus Foundation in Classic Beige
Available from Boots Here £5.99 / Beauty Bay Here £6.00

This is another product that had been surrounded by positive review, when I first used this I put a picture on Instastories as it was the most blurring foundation in photographs which I have ever tried. I can see why people absolutely love this as the finish is incredible, it blends nicely with a sponge has medium buildable coverage and a lovely satin finish. I powder it as an oily person and it still doesn’t look flat after it’s been powdered, it’s a very natural looking foundation that has buildable qualities.

The packaging is pretty nice too, it’s a simple designed square glass bottle with black writing. I can’t quite work out whether I enjoy the applicator or not, it’s pumpless and instead has a small spatula which I use to just dot and swipe it across my face.

For me it’s not great for longevity – I find for oily skin this just can’t quite manage to last a whole day, which is such a shame, I’d have loved to have found a cheap every day foundation for less than a tenner – but sadly this isn’t it. If I go out the house for a few hours at the weekend, this is perfect but doesn’t give me all day wear that I crave. This breaks down when I start getting oily after to 3-4 hours, but I think those with normal-dry skins may find this lasts better on them,I will happily use this to it’s end being more choosy about when to try, but I don’t think it will be one I will end up repurchasing. I know a few people who own this who are ‘normal’ who find it lasts all day on them.

WetnWild Liquid Catsuit Emerald Gaze
Available from Boots Here £4.99 / Beauty Bay Here £3.75

I’ve kept talking about how I’m planning on doing a post on different liquid eyeshadows and it keeps not getting done – but I got this to see how it stacked up as a budget option. I’ve found a few cheaper options, but rarely do colours come into play so I was keen to try this dark emerald green colour.

In the tube it’s beautiful, the shimmer is really visible but I believe it’s down to the fact it has extra stuck to the sides. It has quite a blackened base and is semi sheer and requires layering. I’ve tried this a few times and whilst it’s okay – I wouldn’t buy another.

The applicator is too floppy for me and bends about all over the place. The formula is semi-sheer as previously mentioned, so needs layering up to get some better pigmentation on a brush but also feels heavy when layered on too much, and it just doesn’t blend all that easily as it sets quite quickly.

With the Stila liquid shadows I can blend them out with a brush or a finger, but I find with a finger with this Liquid Catsuit it tends to pull the product off, and a brush it just doesn’t work fantastically. The easiest way I’ve found to make this look semi acceptable is to blend shadow over the top for creases and outer corners to give it more of a blend, doing it the other way just doesn’t work for me. It takes too much time to layer this up and blend it out to get it looking acceptable, and honesttly whilst it’s quite pretty – I look at it and think *ugh. not worth the effort*. Maybe it’s just this shade and the others are more impressive, but I wouldn’t buy another one of these again to try and find out.

So that’s it, I hope you enjoyed my WetnWild Five Mini Reviewson these products. Let me know what your favourites are from the brand in the comments so I can keep an eye out if the range expands further here in the UK.

You can find the range available from Boots here and Beauty Bay here.

We have Wet N Wild here but I haven’t tried it. The Photo Focus foundation is one I may consider picking up when I’ve finished one or two of my current foundations, the shade range is decent and I like the thinner consistency for building up layers. The emerald eyeshadow looks pretty but it doesn’t sound like a patch on your beloved Stilas!

That’s good, is it still as affordable as it should be with you – I know how you get the raw end of the stick sometimes!
The shade range isn’t too bad! No it’s not a patch on my Stila shadows, works, but is too much effort!

Yes, it is affordable. The lipsticks are only a couple of dollars each and I think the foundation is $12 which equates to roughly £6 🙂 All about that minimal effort haha!

It’s great that Wet n Wild are becoming more available in the UK! I got the highlighter in Blossom Glow and love it, it’s such a good highlighter for the price xx

It’s a shame some of the products are disappointing, I feel like I never love affordable eye products usually. The highlighter is very pretty though x
