Products I’m Trying to Use Up – Autumn 2018

Products I’m Trying to Use Up – Autumn 2018

It’s been a few months since my last batch of products was portioned off and targeted for meeting my empties pile. I’ve taken a look over the two of these posts I did in the summer and the majority of those products seem to have been ticked off. In fact there’s only out 6 of 34 still left in my collection. Some of these left overs have been rolled over to this empties and some have been archived off as “out of season” now we’re heading into colder weather and any last ounce of summer colour drains from my skin.

Skincare

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm (review)
One of my favourite discoveries of the year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using it. I’ve gone a little crazy recently and purchased several cleansers I want to get around to reviewing soon – one will be a comparison of three from one brand, so as you can imagine I want to have one finished off before I have three at once on the go! I’m hopeful this may be finished before we leave here – but I’m not completely hopeful as it goes so far! I’ve got about a quarter of the pot left to go.

Excuviance Cleansing Purifying Gel
I felt like I couldn’t not include this as whilst it’s so close to the end I’ve been working on this huge tube since the start of the year, putting so much effort in over summer. This smells vile, like bleach, and I only use it in the shower as a token gesture to get it finished. I’ve loved other Excuviance products, but this one isn’t for me. So I’ll be doing a happy dance once it’s finished!

The Ordinary Glycolic Toner
I’m so fed up of the sight of this toner and I’ve included it a few times in these posts but can never find myself reaching for it. I’ve really gone off the brand since the owner went a bit… vocal on instagram and I had decided I don’t want to buy from the brand any more… news is this week that they are actually ceasing trading (personally I think this a marketing stunt and they’ll be back in a few months!). There’s three products I have left in my collection I’d like to get finished off, this being the most important as it’s literally collecting dust along the top.

M&S Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Face Cream (review)
This is one of my favourite skincare products, ever. I already have another back up in waiting for this, but I have a few part started moisturisers I’d like to see finished by the end of the year, they just won’t get finished whilst this is around though so I need to commit to finishing this jar before I move onto the next.

Elizavecca Hella Pore Face Mask (review)
This doesn’t have much left in the tube and I’d really like to see it finished up and empty. It’s been hanging on the shower room windowsill over summer and the bottle has become a bit faded as a result. This mask isn’t the most effective pore peeling one I’ve tried so would like to just see the back of it.

REN Glycolactic Face Mask (review)
This was a lovely discovery, but it doesn’t have the longest shelf life so I want to make sure I get to use and appreciate it all before it turns. I did have a weekly alarm set as a reminder to use it, but the past few weeks I’ve not been in when the alarm has gone off, so I just need to leave it out on my dressing table to get it gone!

Makeup

Mac Cosmetics Sunbasque Blush
This is the longest current runner in my to use up list. This product is old, my second ever purchase from MAC and I’ve slowly fallen back in love with it again over summer. It’s a perfect blend between a bronzer and a blush, with subtle shimmer and adds the right amount of warmth to the skin. I think I’ll end up repurchasing this when it’s gone, but it’s time to get a 8/9 year old product finished.

ABH Banana and Contour Pans
The final rollovers – I’ve used these most days over the past few months and they’re still looking like new! I don’t know how well these have been compressed in the pan, but there’s showing no dips in the pan at all.

Cover FX Blurring Primer
This has been my go-to primer for around 6 weeks now and I’m just not loving it. I have a few other primers in my drawer I’d like to get through so I can treat myself to the No Pore-blem primer I tried a sample of a few months back.

Kat Von D Lock it Foundation (review)
This was my favourite foundation but it’s taken now by the Jouer High Coverage foundation. I started hunting out a replacement for this again after Kat Von D was another brand I no longer wanted to support going forward – and now I’m keen to get this finished up since finding a suitable replacement.

W7 Set It Up Powder
I can’t believe how long this one is lasting! Another ‘roll over’ item. I’ve really enjoyed this but I’m getting ready to see the back of it now, there’s other stuff I want to move on to!

Studio 10 Dual Ended Liner
This featured in my last one of these too, and to be honest this one had me surprised that I hadn’t yet managed to finish it up. One side of this is getting down to it’s last few sharpens – the darker brown shade, whilst I still have a way to go on the cream end. I have so many eyeliners it would be nice to see one gone though!

Stila Rose Gold Retro Magnificent Metal (review)
I pulled this out recently and discovered it was close to drying out – I was struggling to get much more product out of it so I pulled out the stopper on the top and I’ve got access to much more of it! I haven’t used these much in the past few months as I’ve been concentrating on reviewing a lot of palettes, so it’s time to get some of my older ones finished up.

Givency Noir Couture Mascara (review)
I recently got a sample of this but it’s a mascara I had a few years ago and I’d like to get it finished off, I don’t hate this enough to toss it – the last time I had it I found it built volume okay, but this time around it’s a struggle. I’d like to get this gone as I’ve got a big pile of mascaras to review and get through!

Fragrance

M&S Sheer Radiance Perfume
I’ve done a really good job at finishing off a load of perfumes and body sprays over the past few months if I do say so myself. I’m trying to avoid using my absolute favourites for every day and pulled this one out of my unused pile to use for work.  This is a small bottle so probably won’t be too hard to finish up.

Body Care

M&S Iris Bubble Bath
I’ve had this for a few years as I wanted something semi pretty to sit a little ornamentally on my bath. You’ll know if you’re round here a lot I don’t like baths so it’s purely been for ornamental value over the past few years and now I’m just bored of using it. This is migrating to my shower to be used up as a shower gel instead. I’ll buy something different as an ornament for my new baths when we move!

That was a pretty meaty edition of these, but I’m confident I can finish most of these off by the end of the year. Some of these will probably end up rolling into my next seasonal one roundup in Winter, especially the harder to finish products such as the face masks which don’t get used every day.

Have you got any products that you’re trying to finish up at the moment?

I love these project pan/finish products posts! I’m thinking of finally doing one as I’m starting to hoard and want to start using up some bits. I want to focus on the Stila eyeshadows again in my post, I love them and they’ve been neglected. Also want to use up my Nars blush and a few other bits😊 x

I find isolating products off really helps me get through stuff! I’m far less of a hoarder than what I was but I find having a pile of 20 body moisturisers for example will mean that I use 20 and none ever seem to get finished. Having a couple of each thing isolated to be used everyday, or at least frequently seems to allow me to clear things down much easier!

I haven’t even started using my The Ordinary products which I purchased a few months ago

I’m trying to use up a primer and a body lotion at the moment. Once I finish up those two I should have enough products to do an empties post! I’m yet to try one of the Stila Magnificent Metals but I’d like to one day. I saw there was a three piece mini set released last Christmas but not knowing about it at the time means it’s gone now lol

    • October 12, 2018 / 11:40 am

I’ve seen that they have something similar this year, I recommend the minis you get a decent amount of product in them and gives you choice of colours to play with!
Yes I saw your project pan update, that Makeup Revolution one has to be close to the end!

      • October 12, 2018 / 11:57 am

Ooh what site have you seen the minis on? It’s typical you think you’re close to finishing something and the anticipation draws the longevity out!

I had some teaser PR releases for Christmas on mail and spotted a similar minis set from Stila, I’ll have a look later and see what site they were from!

            Thank you x

Ugghhh! I feel like some products take forever to finish and never leave my bathroom! I’m currently working on finishing up my Paula’s Choice 1% retinol – love the stuff but couldn’t use it while pregnant/breastfeeding so I want to get a fresher version. Damn thing never empties!

So many things I’m trying to use up. Some I’m about ready to just toss because I’m tired of seeing them cluttering up my bathroom/vanity and don’t even want to deal with them anymore. 😂

I’ve been like that with a few products in my last one of these, I hate wasting stuff so much so end up suffering through it, even though I also agree with the life is too short for bad products mentality! I feel ya

I caught a glimpse of that The Ordinary news too! Latest is that apparently Brandon has been ousted and his ex-partner/co-ceo will take over instead. But yeah. I still can’t be bothered with getting re-connected with the brand – what a mess. Speaking of – I still have that glycolic toner to finish up too and it’s not one I reach for either.

I might check out that MAC Sunbasque! I have fallen in love with MAC all over again recently. It just always feels right when I go back to it.

    • October 13, 2018 / 6:17 pm

The thing I like about MAC is that their products work, it’s rarely disappointing when you revisit!
Sunbasque is a shade I think would be universally flattering for pale skins.
Totally agree with you on the Deciem stuff, I saw the news that he’s been ‘temporarily’ shut out – but even if he is fully gone, I think I’m just over it anyway. I’ve not been wowed by anything I’ve tried, sure it’s cheap but I’d rather spend double or triple and feel like I see more of a noticeable difference.

Goodluck! Hope you finish everything up! There’s nothing more satisfying that finishing things up!
