An Irresistible TK Maxx Haul – August 2018

Last week after a particularly rough morning at work I declared I was going to my “happy place” at lunch time, the TK Maxx Makeup and Beauty Aisle. Fully expecting to be a grubby shit-show thanks to it being school holidays and for teenagers to be in there more often than normal disrespecting the makeup section. I was in luck, either the people around me didn’t know the gems that they were in front of their eyes, but I found a bunch of makeup which should of totalled around £167 and took it home for £27. A very successful trip, so naturally I thought I would share what I found so you can take a look into your local store if you’re interested in hunting down similar items!

There are rumours that the ABH Subculture palette are lingering in TK Maxx for £20 and despite several attempts from me to track this down at various stores I have failed, but luckily this time around there were some suitable stand ins that made the trip worthwhile.

Cover FX Blurring and Illuminating Primers – £4.99 Each

I had a sample of the blurring primer at the start of the year and it felt lovely on the skin, the sample wasn’t really big enough for me to tell whether it was worth the full price cost, at £30 it was definitely more than I would spend on a primer, especially as it’s not a huge tube), but at the prices of a mere fiver each I though these were worth a try. My Primer stash is running a little low, I think I have a couple of samples as well as one full size tube which is not playing very well with my skin whilst the weather has been so hot, so I thought also picking up the Illuminating one was worth a try too. Luckily it came highly recommended by my friend Molly afterwards who said it was lovely, so I’m glad I took a gamble on it as I normally opt for mattfiying bases being so oily, and if it doesn’t work for me it has a home which it can be happily adopted by!

Cover FX Bronzer in Sunkissed – £4.99

You’re probably already noticing a theme with the Coverfx stuff, and this isn’t the last item! These came in at £26 each normally and I decided to pick this up as it was a warmer toned matte bronzer without being too dark or too orange. I tend to usually opt for cooler tones but more recently I’ve been enjoying my MAC Sunbasque bronzer which is very shimmery as I’ve been trying to finish it up and I thought this might be a nice matte compliment for that. Again a great saving on this!

Cover FX Perfect Light Highlight in Sunlight – £4.99

Okay the last item from Cover FX I promise. They’ve become very well known for their highlight drops so I thought giving their Pressed Powder one was worth a try, this looked like a more subtle, lit from within highlight that has a slight champange golden hue. Looking online about these the pigmentation can be built up for something more intense but I’ll most likely be using it as something lighter for a softer look when I just want to look really glowy – a bit like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders as I’ve finished up all suitable highlights similar earlier in the year for that kind of look.

Anatomicals You Need a Blooming Shower – £1.99

Not the biggest saving on this but I knew I didn’t have any spare shower gels left in and I’m a big fan of Anatomicals and it’s not as easy to grab as it used to be when back in my uni days it was easily found in the Supermarket. This is a lovely rose scented Body Cleanser (let’s call it a shower gel) and I thought it would be a  good one to pick to stop Ben stealing mine instead of using the many bottles he has of his own.

Tarte Sex Kitten Palette – £2.99 Each

These were 100% mislabeled as the wrong price and I couldn’t resist picking them the two they had on the shelf… as they had other similar Tarte palettes for £19.99 and £24.99 and I’ve seen it in there previously for £15+. I picked up two as I have a giveaway coming and despite the fact I managed to snag it for an utter bargain it’s such a high quality brand I couldn’t resist it as an extra. This is a chocolate scented palette with a good mix of neutrals that can take you from soft looks all they way up to a more intense smoky look.

And that’s it all that together totalled £27.98 and when I totted up the retail prices it should have been around £165. I think we can agree that that was a pretty good saving and TK Maxx came through on this trip. I’m going to still be keeping my eye out for that ABH palette though as at that price I wouldn’t be able to resist!

Have you tried any of these in the past or snagged a TK Maxx Bargain recently? Let me know in the comments if you have!

Bargains galore! The primers sound really nice and I hope the illuminating one performs well for you and the blurring one lives up to the sample you tried! The bronzer looks quite light for a bronzer, does it look different in person? That Tarte palette looks so pretty, I’m curious to know how the navy blue shade swatches/performs.

That colour is so unusual I’m looking forward to trying it on the eye, I have swatched it already and got the pics ready for a review now just need to start using it!
The bronzer is a little light, but not quite as light as it looks in the pictures, I think the light off the mirror is making it pale out a bit more than it does in person. I’m glad as it’s warm toned in particular that it is on the light side though, don’t want to look like a huge orange!

Definitely better to be a little lighter when it comes to bronzer, you can always add more.

I love TK MAXX for the amazing bargains but i do worry sometimes especially with skincare as you never know how long those products have been sitting there and if they even work anymore

I don’t tend to buy much skincare from there for that reason, also the discounts are never as significant as what you can get on Makeup. There’s usually an offer running somewhere for skincare, makeup can be harder to find especially on high end brands!
