Face Mask Friday #63 – Origins Drink Up Intensive Face Mask

A few weeks ago I was kindly sent a big package by Marks and Spencer’s with their top picks from across their beauty range and one of the standouts to me was the Origins Drink Up Intensive Face Mask. For a long time it’s been on my ‘masks to try’ notes list on my phone as it comes up as a constant recommendation from friend willing to part on beauty product endorsement for me for a change instead of asking the other way round.

Whilst I’m brilliant at only having one or two moisturisers, eye creams etc on the go at the moment the one thing I can never resist cracking open a new one of is face masks and naturally I gravitated towards opening this first out of the pile of products from M&S. I’m at Face Mask Friday #63 and at this point there’s only a handful of full size masks I’ve managed to finish up (despite me trying… somewhat).

Earlier in the year I tried Glamglow Thirsty Mud and whilst it wasn’t the overnight first mask that I’ve tried, it’s the one I saw the best results from, but at a fairly high price point and so, SO many masks in my collection I haven’t been able to justify buying it yet. But it gave me a bit of a benchmark to compare this mask from Origins to.

Drink Up Intensive comes in a fair whack cheaper than Glamglow’s Thirsty Mud at £42.00 for 50ml (84p per ml) vs Origins at £26.50 for 100ml (26p per ml). Origins is a brand which I feel like is quite mixed at it’s price points, I often look over items and think that seems expensive for what it is, but the masks feel reflective of the brand and the . I actually prefer the packaging of the Origins – whilst it’s not as luxe as the metal pots which house Glamglow masks the squeezy tubes are far more practical for the bedside in my opinion. Okay, enough of the comparisons for now, let’s talk exclusively about what we’re hear for.

When it comes to overnight masks I want it to perform better than what a good night cream would, I expect that a mask should make a noticeable and instantaneous change and I’ve put this to the test two-three times a week for the past three weeks so have a good idea as to whether this is a great mask or whether it could just be any other moisturiser.

The packaging of the Origins Drink Up Intensive Face Mask marries up with the revamped more modern patterned design and the chartreuse and mint scribble detail of this one is particularly eye catching (and great as bedside product for me seeing as my bedroom is olive green!). With a flip top lid it’s easy to squeeze out the perfect dose of product for your face.

The Origins Drink Up Intensive Face Mask has a thick gel cream texture, but one which leans more towards a cream feeling whilst still having the easy absorption that a gel offers. I apply a layer over my face and I like to leave it feeling like there’s some product still sitting on the skin which can be absorbed rather than having massaged it all into the skin. I’ve trialled putting on a thinner layer but I feel like the skin drinks it up overnight if I leave a bit more on as the package suggests. Whilst I put on a little bit extra this product does go a long way. What I like about this is that it doesn’t feel heavy in the slightest – I’ve also found it that as well as nighttime, this makes a great mask for the day if I’m just going to be at home doing jobs/packing up my belongings in boxes.

The scent has a fresh citrus and fruit note which adds up with the masks main ingredients; apricot kernel oil, avocado oil with a blend of floral waters (chamomile, rose, myrtle leaf and bitter orange flower to name just a few). Apricot Kernel Oil is an ingredient rich in fatty acids such as Omega’s 6 (nourishing and protecting) and 9 (acts as protecting layer/film or sealing in moisture) as well as a great source of Vitamin E (brightening and improve the appearance of scars).

The morning after applying my skin feels hydrated with no signs of residue left behind, every last drop gets absorbed. This mask in part has been a bit of a slow burner. Whilst I’ve seen instant results  where I’ve been battling the odd spot on my chin as well as a horrendous bite on my jawline which have been uber flaky and dry as they’ve been healing and this has really been helping soften the areas meaning makeup looks a lot better once applied on top of it. But the rest of my complexion has taken longer to catch up, whilst yes I’ve felt it’s moisturising benefits it to start with was no more so than a moisturiser. However over time I’ve noticed a big difference in how smooth my skin has become over my cheeks in particular, my skin has felt and looked more plump the more I’ve used it. I think whilst I’m oily dehydrated skin type it would suit all the way through to dry skin types too.

So final verdict… better or worse than Glamglow? I think Glamglow slightly, and I mean slightly that it pips this to the post – but not so much so that it should work out at over triple the price per ml when you do the maths on it. This is a great overnight mask that does outperform other cheaper alternatives that I’ve tried such as The Body Shop’s Bouncy Mask.
