Products I’m Trying to Use Up : Late Summer 2018

It’s without secret at this point that I am desperately trying to declutter my collection. Partially used stuff has to be finished up and I am doing everything I can to get every possible half empty bottle or sample sized sachet used before we move! I have seriously curbed what I am buying over the past few months, especially when it comes to skin and haircare (the chunkiest bottle offenders), and after taking a glance over my last one of these from early June, I’ve already been pretty successful.

So it was time to highlight both products I’ve already been trying to use up since finishing others in that post, as well as an update on some that was included within that post too, a recommital ceremony for some. Some products I’ve ditched from my version of project pan as the colours/formulas aren’t working too well for me at the moment, so rather than forcing myself into trying to make a bad thing work, I’m trying to have things that I don’t mind reaching for, and this is my current list!

Fragrance

The Body Shop Early Harvest Peach Body Mist
This is a spritz I’ve been trying to use up for a few summers, and along with the other body mist below it’s one that’s been used almost exclusively since I put it in the last one of these. I am close to finishing this now and it’s what I’ve been using for my every day at work, or just milling around the house. I’ve also been using it to layer with other perfumes as well as the body mist below!

Victoria’s Secret Secret Escape Body Mist
Used pretty much identically to the one above, Again I’ve made huge progress on this since it’s last update where I’d used about a fifth of the bottle, there’s now just a quarter left and I’m hopeful of having it finished before we pack up!

Haircare

Schwarzkopf #Instashine Hairspray
I gleefully declared that was a suitable replacement for my favourite ever hairspray which was discontinued, but I take it all back. It’s great on straight hair or slicking back a pony tail but it makes my hair so matted when I use it on curls! Not a fan and I want to see it gone and out my drawer!

Percy and Reed Shine and Fragrance Mist
This isn’t a product I’ve used at all yet after getting it in a Beauty box recently. I’ve packed all duplicates of haircare I have (e.g I’ve only kept my hands on one oil). Naturally I only have one hair fragrance as it’s not something I’d normally purchase for myself. I want to give this a good go and see if it’s something I do want to keep my hands on or whether I want to get rid of it!

Skincare

Garnier Moisture Bomb Day Moisturiser
This has been in my bedside table for the best part of a year and it’s use after I reviewed it went to being minimal as I moved onto other products to review. I’ve gone back to this over the past month or so and it’s been perfect in the evening whilst the weather has been so warm as it feels so light on the skin. There’s just under half left in here and I’m hoping that if I continue reaching for it nightly it should be done in about a month for around when we should be moving.

Kiehl’s Calendula Cleanser
This has been such a labour of… hatred in my shower routine. I bought this cleanser after it being matched to my skin-type in Kiehl’s and it’s my least favourite product that I’ve ever had from the brand. It doesn’t mix well with other products I use after it, I can’t pinpoint what this actually does for my skin and isn’t enjoyable to use. One of my biggest product regrets and I’m determined to use up every. last. drop.

ARK Skincare Hydrating Toner
Current spritz of choice has been this, however it’s proving difficult to finish up as I can not use it up after I’ve used the Calendula Cleanser as it turns my whole face red, hot and itchy for an hour. It’s absolutely fine when I mix it with any other skincare but the cocktail of these together is not a fun experience. I am hoping once I’ve finished off the cleanser which should hopefully only have a week or two of life left in it this will be quicker to run through.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment
I’ve had this on my bedside table for a while and it’s not faired too well in the heat over the last few weeks and I’m having to swipe my finger across it to be used as it’s so badly melted and smushed at the base. A lovely lip balm that I’d like to get finished and gone!

Pixi Double Cleanse
I’d like to finish this off before we go, the oil side is getting close to being gone but the cream I don’t use every day if I’m in a rush, so I need to get that side finished off too. I’m still really loving this but I’d like to not take a quarter of a pot with me, especially as it’s not a small pot.

Elemis Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules
I’ve had these way longer than I should admit – I think I was gifted these at Christmas by Ben’s Mum as part of an Elemis kit from when we lived with them, so this year that would be five years. There’s two types of oil capsules in here that you pop open, I’m only able to use the day ones (which I use at night!) as the night ones contain lavender oil, so I need Ben’s assistance finishing these off.

Body Care

Mixa Restoring Body Lotion
I’ve done a really good job of finishing off other body products but this is my current and only candidate for body care which I’d like to see gone. I have about a third of a bottle left and it’s proved a good moisturiser that’s really neutral but effective. It’s been great on my arms since I finished off the Zoella Body Sorbet and I’m hoping to see that it’s gone then!

Makeup

MAC Sunbasque Bronzer
I’ve used this quite heavily since I featured it last time around but it looks virtually no different since last time! I was hopeful of getting this mostly finished up through summer as I’m waiting on one product for my Back to MAC pile, but sadly I don’t think that this going to make it any time soon! I use this in place of a blush when I want a glowing bronzey complexion but it’s too dark for me in winter!

Urban Decay Velvetizer
I was so excited to get my hands on this as it required me to hunt high and low for it… and since I’ve got it I’ve not really used it. I think I’ve used this three or four times maximum and I don’t know why I keep putting it off. I don’t necessarily want to finish this, but I want to start using it so I can review it!

The Ordinary Serum Foundation
I’ve been bad at using this up mainly as I’ve been testing out so many others for review. But I’d really like to see it gone, as mentioned in my last one I’m not supporting the Deciem umbrella of brands until Brandon the owner is gone.

Absolute New York Eye Primer
This I swear is never going to end. This has featured before and I still can’t see the end in sight for getting it finished off. I really want to go back to old favourites or try out another that I’m lusting after, but I want to finish this up completely before I do!

Benefit Dew the Hoola!
Whilst this is only a deluxe mini this has been too dark for me to try out until now, whilst I’m three-four foundation shades darker than usual I want to try and put this to the test and get it finished off. I think this should be lovely paired with the MAC Sunbasque for an ultra glowy bronzed finish.

W7 Set it Up! Loose Setting Powder
I’ve tried many setting powders from W7 as I can pick them up easily and cheaply near me, this is my favourite that I’ve tried. This one is the best from the line that I’ve tried and I already have a back up in waiting. I’m trying to use it up as Ive accumulated a lot of loose powders and it would be nice to have one less to contend with in my drawer!

Urban Decay Shapeshifter Palette
I absolutely loved this palette when I was gifted it last year, but as I was trying to finish off other products (primarily the infamous and now finally dead theBalm Bahama Mama) it fell by the wayside. I’ve picked it back up now mainly for the powder side for both the matte bronzers inside and quite frequently I’m finding that I am also reaching for the highlighter too. I’m not necessarily trying to finish this (it will be quite a task), but I’d like for it to become a product I’m more prone to reach for again.

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer
When Seventeen announced it was being discontinued whilst I was a bit sad as it was the end of an era, I wasn’t gutted as I had no core favourites from the collection that I was going to lose out on. The twitter beauty community was mourning that this concealer wasn’t going to be available so I decided to snag a couple of tubes to see if I should have been using it (a risky decision if it was fantastic), and whilst it’s not awful, I wasn’t missing out on anything. This has been used on and off for a few months but it would be nice to see one less concealer in my drawer.

ABH Contour and Banana Highlighting Pans
I know some more contour powders! I was given these at an event and I just kinda want to get them done and dusted. I think because they are in such a little z palette they keep getting shoved to the back of a drawer or my eye just looks over them. They are smaller than average for pressed powder pans so they shouldn’t be hard to finish, it’s just remembering to use them!

Maybelline Gel Eyeliner
This featured in my last one of these and it’s so close to being done, I keep having to rehydrate the formula with a spritz of fix plus and giving it a mix as with this hot weather and the fact it’s almost empty has meant it’s just kept getting dry. I think this one should be done within the month.

Studio 10 Dual Ended Eyeliner
I feel like I’ve been working on this all year and it just doesn’t go down! I really like this pencil it features a cream toned liner which is great for brightening the eye without it being as harsh as a white, while the other end is a dark taupe which just takes the edge off it being a stark black. I’ve got so many pencils I’d just like to see one gone. Just one. I think this could take all year to finish though!

And that’s it, a long one this time round but there were so many products that I’ve been thinking “oooh I’d like to see you gone!” that I couldn’t help but include them. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these and what items you’re trying to finish from your collection too, I’m always curious to hear!

What does Secret Escape smell like? The Garnier Moisture Bomb cream sounds nice 🙂 Is the Shapeshifter palette the one that has cream products and powder or am I confusing it with something else? Hopefully we’ll see some of these in your empties series soon! xx

Yes you’re right it does have the two sides, I like the cream side but I don’t reach for it every day it’s too time consuming!
Secret Escape is a floral but it has a fresh leafy tone too it to – I just looked it up for an official description on their website and it’s gone, doesn’t seem to be part of the core collection any more!

Are the powder and cream shades the same? Maybe the scent has been discontinued? x

There’s 4 powder shades and 5 cream shades, the bronzer tones match up quite well as does the matte cream. But there’s a shimmer highlight in both sides too, the powder is more intense but can be layered!

I really need to go through my collection and challenge myself to finish some things, instead of forever buying more! I have the Garnier Moisture Bomb and I’ve always found it pills up on me no matter when I use it, day or night. I was so disappointed with it x

It’s way too greasy for me for the day time but I find it’s fine at night. I way prefer their night cream which is a gel cream formula, I’m finding the day one much harder to work through.
I think I’ve reached saturation level and the fact I’m starting to physically put it all in piles is making me realise I don’t need any more! PR is keeping me topped up with the few things I’d need to repurchase which is very lucky at the moment!

It seems like Secret ecape has been discontinued! I can’t find it anywhere online that stocks the current victoria’s secret line of products only clearance type stores! x

I’m trying to do the same with my collection, sometimes it can be hard to remember that new products coming in takes up so much room, when you’ve already got half used products everywhere already. Gutted that the hairspray doesn’t work well on curls, at least it’s okay on straight and ponytails! Great post xx

I feel like learning to declutter is a learning curve – I think as bloggers we’re natured to move onto the next thing a lot and it’s taken me about a year of being stubborn to my inner demons to tell myself that no, having seven open moisturisers is not normal or needed! Finding a mix of products I want to finish is motivating for me and I find having a mix of stuff I love and don’t like helps me feel like I’m not trying to finish up a bunch of stuff I hate! xx
