M&S Formula Absolute Total Lip & Eye Cream Review

M&S Formula Absolute Total Lip & Eye Cream

A month or two ago I reviewed a sleep cream from the M&S Formula Absolute range which has received rave reviews online and I well and truly utterly fell head over heels for too. I don’t have to purchase skincare very often any more, beauty boxes and PR tend to keep me well topped up but when I was on my last dregs of my eye cream stash I had to admit it was time to buy some skincare and I decided to turn back to the range which had left me super impressed, so today’s review is of the M&S Formula Absolute Total Lip & Eye Cream.

The cardboard packaging is a shiny and eye-catching metallic and chrome effect cardboard which when ever I’m now (regularly) caught running through the beauty aisles in M&S catches my eye. The packaging is very similar of the Ultimate Sleep Cream from the same line, oozing the same level of quality and luxury feel in an opulent rich dark purple glass jar with gold touches.

The lid is a simple screw on top which reveals the product sat beneath. There is a light barely-there fragrance that shouldn’t irritate those with sensitive skin and the cream is white in colour. The texture of this eye cream is really interesting and I can’t think of anything that I’ve tried thus far that is similar.

This sits somewhere between a lotion and a gel like whipped texture when applied but when you touch it in the pot it feels bouncy yet light. I’ve had this on the go for the past month and the more it’s been in my routine the more I’ve noticed it’s effects. Whilst this is a lip and eye cream I’ve primarily been using it as an eye cream, for lips I find it too thin to last through the night and that it tends to slip away too easily as I’m a chatterbox up until the moment I finally doze off.

M&S Formula Absolute Total Lip & Eye Cream review

Lately work stress + life stress + hot weather + inability to get a proper nights sleep had been taking a real toll on my appearance, I’d noticed under my eyes I was starting to get some finer lines which I thought “great, there’s no going back from here”, but thankfully I think it’s mostly been stress, tiredness and dehydration at the cause and this has added the oompf back into my skin which was much needed. I was noticing in particular that I was getting some obvious lines when using high coverage foundations/concealers around the eye area.

The formula rubs in easily but doesn’t entirely disappear to nothing as it’s massaged in, it plays well and layers with most other products too. I have to mention that there is something that it seems to react with and I can’t pinpoint what, once out of every 4/5 times I use it it feels hot on my skin and takes a minute or to die down. It’s not unbearable, but it is uncomfortable. At the moment I chop and change some products in my skincare every few nights (such as moisturisers) and there’s one thing that creates a short term reaction as they settle together, not enough to create skin reaction physically or in touch, but enough to stop me drifting to sleep until it settles back down.

I find this spreads far and I don’t have to use a huge dollop of product, after a month I’d say I’m a little over a quarter of the way through the pot and estimate it would be 3-4 months of daily use to finish this up. The Marks and Spencer website claims that this eye and lip cream helps eradicate ten signs of ageing but it doesn’t specifically list out what those are, but it does state that it should reduce lines around the lip and eye areas including eye bags and eyelids which leaves skin nourished, hydrated and brightened. I have found the cream brightening, hydrating and nourishing which in turn has rehydrated the skin and hidden those sneaky fine lines that I suspect were stress and dehydration induced.

At £18 it’s at the low-end of the high-end spectrum, it comes in cheaper than Kiehl’s eye creams that I’ve liked in the past but it’s not the total budget end of the scale either. If there’s one area I don’t mind spending money on it’s items that prolong signs of ageing, and so far this is doing a splendid job and isn’t a product that is visibly disappearing with every use and needs restocking on a monthly basis.

For me I’m not sure this would reverse the signs of ageing on older skin and I’m not sure that it would be enough hydration for skins that lie on the drier end either. I think as a middle of the road starting to need a more intense eye cream then this is a great option, the reviews of this product like the sleep cream are met with high scores everywhere – maybe it is worth trying if you’re older or drier and it’s a little miracle worker for every skin type and age. You can find this for £18 on M&S’ website here.

It does look rich and hydrating! 18 is good value, especially if it’s 30 ml

The fact that you have actually noticed a difference says a lot about this stuff! Most eye creams fall in the “well… it didn’t make anything WORSE” category. It is a little disappointing that there is fragrance (fragranced eyes? why?) but I would still love to give this a try.
