When ever I’m looking up reviews for anything skincare specific the first place I always go to is Caroline’s blog, because if she’s tried and reviewed it, I need to know whether the Queen of the Skincare Realm says it’s worth spending money or not. So naturally when she released a collaboration with Pixi, it was a product that was added to my to-try list. Despite the fact that Pixi Double Cleanse has been out for a while now, I’ve only in the past 6 weeks gotten around to getting this product in my possession after I’d sufficiently depleted my store level stock levels of cleansers that were filling an entire shelf in my cupboard.
The product called Double Cleanse is a dual sided pot with two different formulas inside. I’ve never been an intentional Double Cleanser, I like having one product that’s good at doing it all and it’s only if I’m using a product that’s say terrible at removing makeup that I will line more than one cleanser up as part of my routine. However if the pot is really good if you are a double cleanser for travel – with one pot for doing it all and taking less chunky bottles away with you!
The packaging of the Pixi Double Cleanse is lovely – the outside show the two products inside the pot with the Copper toned writing that Pixi seem to be leaning towards nowadays with the pastel pink and green shades. It’s simple and eye-catching. The back features Caroline’s gorgeous chops along with some information about the product.
The pot of Pixi Double Cleanse itself is a circular glass pot which is split half and half with a wave design down the middle – there’s a plastic lid that sits inside that keeps each side to itself, so if you’re going travelling with it you don’t have to worry about the sides becoming its own unique formula.
The first side features the Solid Cleansing Oil, in the past I’ve disliked the majority of cleansing oils that I’ve tried, they’re slippery and drain out of my fingers as I try to use them so the fact that this is a solid makes it much easier to use. It’s similar to a balm texture to start with. I drag one finger through the product until I have a small but healthy dollop on my finger which I then dot around my face evenly. Once I’ve evened up the distribution I start massaging first concentrating on my skin and feel the product become a thick balmy oil on the skin. Depending on how heavy and colourful my eye makeup is, I either rinse my oil off my complexion before starting fresh on the eyes or I just continue to work the product around my eyes too. The solid oil does a fantastic job of breaking down all makeup easily (including stubborn mascaras (Benefit Bad Gal Bang, I’m looking at you… review coming) with little scrubbing and when I wash away I struggle to see any traces of makeup which is left behind.
The oil contains a trio of key ingredients, Vitamin E, Camelina Oil and Evening Primrose Oil which together protects, conditions, moisturise and heal. Looking at the ingredients I was expecting that the solid oil would have more of a scent, but both products in this duo are fragrance free.
The skin already feels nourished and cleansed after the oil but the second side only builds on this lasting effect. Cleansing Creams are never something I gravitate towards too much as like I said before alone they are one of those products which don’t cleanse thoroughly enough to remove anything, but I have to say I do like the process of using this. The Cream is rich and luxurious feeling and feels like I’m applying a mask to the face, similarly to the oil I dot this around the face, I don’t find that this stretches as far and in terms of its use I’m guessing I will finish this side quicker than I will the oil.
The cream features three key ingredients, Vitamin C – to promote and protect collagen, Arginine which promotes cell renewal and increases elasticity and a Peptide complex designed to boost and plump the complexion. I tend to apply this over damp skin and massaged in, I find too wet and it emulsifies too quickly, after 30-60 seconds of working around the face I rise away with water and watch the cream easily turn into a milk and wash off.
One of the reasons I’ve never liked Double cleansing is the effort it takes and the clutter it makes. I don’t want to see two products sat next to my sink, but with this the dual sided pot looks clean and tidy and I only have to go to the effort of opening one product up. Whilst I enjoy the cleansing cream if I was creating this for me I would opt for a big pot of the oil. That’s not to say I wouldn’t buy this again or that I wouldn’t recommend – but for me the solid oil is a quite unique in terms of other products I’ve tried.
I reviewed Pixi’s Cleansing balm a few months ago and in there I deliberated whether that was the same as this, but after using it I do prefer the oil formula over the balm and find I have to use far less product too. This is a formula which is unique in it’s own right for Pixi and I think combined with Caroline they did a fantastic job.
I think on first impressions this seemed a little bit pricey, but I’m seeing how far it goes and how long it’s lasting and it feels like it’s worth the cash. The product is £24.00 and is available from Cult Beauty, they also have an amazing deal running for their birthday I’ve just spotted which features a full size of Glow Tonic and Double Cleanse for £34.00.

I used this for quite a while. I really liked it because I was looking for something gentle for my sensitive skin. I will repurchase even if I don’t use it every day.
I’ve never tried a double cleanse either but this sounds lovely !
I’ve been double cleansing recently and find it makes my skin so so soft! Very interested in this – of CH will put her name to it then I’m buying into it! 😍
I saw Tarababyz talk about this and she said the Solid Cleansing Oil part is identical to the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. I’ve tried the Clinique one and I love it (and have repurchased). She said she was more of a fan of the cleansing solid side than the cream. I’m not normally a fan of cleansing creams, so maybe I’ll just stick to my Clinique cleansing balm. Typically, for my 2 step cleaning, I use a cleansing oil, then micellar water – I find it’s effective but still gentle.
Recently I saw the Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm at Winners (TKMaxx) for C$10 and debated about picking it up but in the end I passed on it. I think it was a good decision. 😛

It’s not identical to Take the Balm off, the performance isn’t dissimilar but the texture is different. TTDO is a lot more balmy and a more pastey texture.
I did like the Pixi Balm one but I found that I ran through it really quickly and wouldn’t be worth the cash to repurchase for me, but at that price I would have snapped it up!
