Colourpop Lux Lipsticks – Uno Mas & Foolish

Colourpop Lux Lipsticks – Uno Mas & Foolish

Last year I became quite the Colourpop fiend, but they started “doing a MAC” and releasing more products than anyone was able to keep up with and when ever that happens I start switching off from the brand. When I saw the Colourpop Lux Lipsticks launch I must admit they caught my eye – I mean look at that packaging, it’s not hard to see why. But I cast it aside as another launch, and I mentioned last week how I can be easily swayed by the glowing reviews on the Full Coverage podcast and this was one that had amazing reviews comparing them to the Charlotte Tilbury line.

Whilst I only have one Charlotte Tilbury lipstick, there are reportedly quite a few colour dupes in the line. Normally I’m against this kind of behaviour, but it’s not something that Colourpop tends to do. The Rose Gold Packaging of the Colourpop Lux Lipsticks does make them feel a little bit similar too and I can see how they are comparable to one another in terms of their formula too. I won’t delve any deeper into a comparison as I don’t have enough of either to compare, but I thought it was worth a quick initial mention before I dive into the full review of these.

This is Colourpop’s first foray into standard lipsticks, they’ve been known for their liquid lipsticks and glosses since they launched but so far they’ve stayed away from the classic bullets. Firstly the cardboard packaging. Colourpop have simplified their style and have managed to nail the simple luxurious style, the formula of these ‘lux’ wraps around the box whilst all the lettering is in a gorgeous rose gold chrome.

The packaging of the tube is lovely – it has an etched effect star detail which cascades all over the tube with ColourPop written close to the opening. The lid is a simple click off, if anything it’s not quite as sturdy as I’d like and I can see it being one that pops it’s lid a bit too easily, however kept safe tucked in small bag pocket I can’t see it being too much of an issue.

The Colourpop Lux Lipsticks itself also carries the star design through, with larger stars down it. The tip on these lipsticks are oval but not pointed, personally I like this shape the most when it comes to lipsticks as it creates a slightly softer edge and I find that it tends to wear down a bit easier and keep it’s shape a lot better as it’s used. All of this considered I think that Colourpop have done an absolutely amazing job at creating these lipsticks for a mere $7 a pop. The colour range is already pretty decent with a decent amount of pinks, reds and neutrals all covered to a few brighter shades such as purples and teals. I’m pleased I started off with just two, but I can see myself adding another one and another one each time I place an order.

Now we’ve talked about the line in general let’s jump to being a bit more in depth on these two individual shades.

Uno Mas

Uno Mas translates from Spanish to “One More”, which kind of links up with my thinking that I’ll keep just adding “one more” to my collection. I picked this shade as it was a twist on my normal pick of nude, I’m always someone who leans for the rosey toned pinks (as I’m sure most of  you are well aware!) but I decided to step a little away from my comfort zone and pick something peachy.

The peachy tone on this is really pretty and I can’t think of a lipstick in my collection that would be dupable for this shade. It’s a lovely twist on a nude and if you’re looking for something that just has the perfect little smidge of colour.

Whilst I adore the formula of this lipstick and it’s staying power I’m unconvinced by the shade on my skin tone, it’s just a little bit too pale for my normal preference. My day-to-day liking it, I think it depends a lot on how much time I’ve spent in the sun in the days prior as to whether I think it’s a shade that works for me. This is a shade that I feel is a tad too close on my skin tone, so it looks nice on people paler and it looks nice on people darker but quite often it’s sitting and blends in a bit too much on me – a bit too Kardashian. I see this lipstick as being one which I will get a bit more wear from in winter when it becomes a bit darker looking on my skintone, but for now I’m not feeling like it’s the best shade on me.

Foolish

Another shade that looked out of my comfort zone online was Foolish and it’s turned into such a staple for me over the past month or so, I can’t stop using it and I’m finding for such a bold shade me jumping for it more often than I normally would.

This is such a gorgeous and unusual shade, again one which is completely unique in my collection. In the picture above it looks more red to what it translates to on the lips and is a gorgeous rust colour that sits orange with an undertone of red running through. This applies so beautifully on the lips and is such a gorgeous, opaque formula that goes on nicely in one swoop. This has become a firm favourite and I’ve had lots of compliments on it and inundated with questions over what lipstick I’m wearing when ever I’m wearing it on instastories. I’ve found that the shade pairs really well with neutral, peach and yellow toned eyeshadows and I’ve had.

Colours Side by Side

Like I said I’ve been super impressed with the Colourpop Lux Lipsticks formula and I can see myself continuing to build on my collection. I placed a joint colourpop order last week and there were shades on my list next to get, but unfortunately the ones on my list to get were out of stock. I think this could well be my favourite budget lipstick formula that I’ve ever tried and yet again Colourpop have smashed it with rivalling the likes of much higher end brands.

What are your favourite lipstick colours this season?

The stars etched into the bullet are cute, does it mean less product with having small chunks cut out or is it still a normal weight? I like Uno Mas on you and I hope you like the look of it more in winter x

These actually weigh more than a MAC lipstick (3g) and these are 3.5g each! Thank you, I think I’m still getting used to a slightly paler shade and it doesn’t help with the weather we’ve got here, I’m catching the sun just driving to work at the moment!

Oh well, the extra weight makes up for the design feature then I guess. Better to weigh more than less lol!

I gotta say: they might be CT dupes, but I think the packaging looks better that CT 🙂
Foolish is beautiful although both colours suit you well!

I agree actually, I’m not the biggest fan of the lines on CT – the stars are pretty but subtle! I love Foolish, I’m wearing it today – it’s so summery!

I’m completely the same I keep getting switched off by them! I have ordered the two new eyeshadow palettes but for the most part I’m not paying attention to their launches!

No that you’ve mentioned it. I haven’t thought of Colourpop as dupes for CT at all *LOL* the packaging alone is varsely different, no? I used to think that CT lippies copies Estee Lauder’s lippies. The cap shape is similar. CT’s is in rose gold, but that’s about it.

Love the set up of your lippie photos xox
