Ten Empties #12

Ten Empties #12

Over the past 10 days I’ve had a bit of a mad run on finishing things up – atleast once a day I’ve been popping items into my empties basket and so much so that it felt like I’d gone back to when I didn’t try and get rid of products every ten. So I have two empties one after another and have loosely categorised  them, this one is mostly haircare, makeup & bodycare. Whilst the next is skincare, fragrance and general consumables. We can jump in and see what my thoughts are and what I would repurchase.

Makeup

Kat Von D Lock It Foundation (review)
This is my favourite foundation and the one which lasts better than anything else I’ve tried. This shade was a little pale for me so when I repurchased it I went a shade up. One of the things I love about this like is that it’s got neutral undertones which is where I sit.
The day after I repurchased it was the day after Kat Von D came out as an anti-vaxxer and it’s something I so strongly disagree with, I’m not sure I will be purchasing from her in future – so I’m beginning serious dupe research mode.
Repurchase? Ick.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
One of my all time favourite concealers – good coverage, blends well and settles naturally on the skin without creasing. One I’ll always come back to, but I’ve amassed quite the pile of concealers and I’m going to try to hold off purchasing for a little while longer! Totally recommend if you haven’t tried it – they now have a slightly bigger shade selection too!
Repurchase? Yes – but not straight away

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara (review)
When I reviewed this mascara I said that the proof in the pudding would be how long it lasted, whilst there still seemed to be a lot of product in the tube the oil concentration inside seemed to be getting higher, like it was separating or wasn’t mixed properly in the first place. As a result it was prone to transferring. Shame as it’s a lovely black pigment and I enjoyed the brush, sadly better out there for the same price.

Beauty Outlet Makeup Brush Spot Cleaner
From my local CCO called Beauty Outlet, it was budget friendly and I was hoping it would be a good, cheap and easy product I could pick up on my doorstep, alas no. This only worked to 75% clean if  you dipped the brush into the solution and soaked it, so I tended to unscrew the spritzer on the top and then dipped in my eye brushes. Like I said it didn’t fully clean especially the richest and brightest pigments, but it got most clean enough to use again.

Haircare

Directions Flamingo Pink
This is the best pink that I’ve tried from Directions for giving me a more subdued shade of pink, the other more candyfloss pink shades I’ve tried haven’t stuck to my slightly darker blonde tone.
Repurchase? Yes, I thought I did but I accidentally picked up Carnation Pink – which doesn’t work as well.

OGX Bamboo Fibre Full Conditioner
Ben picked this up after I told him no more Tresemme and we needed conditioner, I was a bit nervous that he had picked up OGX (and surprised, as it’s not cheap!) as anything I’ve tried from this line bar one shampoo has worked horribly for my hair. This was nice enough but not anything particularly special, I wouldn’t necessarily avoid it in future but I’m not actively seeking it out either.
Repurchase? Maybe

Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Nourish Conditioner (review)
I said in my review of these that I wasn’t sure how I felt about the Nourish Line from Herbal Essences. Weirdly together I thought that they dried my hair out, but if I mixed and matched my shampoo and conditioner with other lines than I thought it worked fine. Smelt lovely found that this went really far too and this bottle lasted me over a month which when I wash my hair 4-5 times a week is quite good!
Repurchase? No

Bodycare

Garnier After Sun Lotion
I’m guessing this was something Ben bought as I wouldn’t normally buy after suns that aren’t gels as I never tend to find them as cooling on the skin. This was no exception to that and felt like a moisturiser, as we’ve had splendid weather in the UK pretty much every day for the past two months (touch wood) I’ve had a few days where I’ve got caught in the sun, mostly my shoulders and this has been needed.
Repurchase? No

Lush Happy Hippy Shower Gel
My last shower gel from my Lush Christmas box and another disappointment. I think that particular gift box was not the best in scents for me and it was too light and fresh. Definitely don’t understand the hype over Lush shower gels and after their recent police hate campaign it’s another brand I definitely do not want to support any more.
Repurchase? No

Weleda Skin Food
I got this in my advent calendar and I pulled it out after hearing it spoken about positively quite a bit online. This is a heavy duty moisturiser that’s very thick feeling, I used it on my elbows which is easily the driest part of my body over about 10 days and saw a vast improvement. If you suffer with dry skin on your body this would be worth a try!

Extras
Expired Products

A secondary organisation of my polishes caused me to spot two other polishes that had all dried up. The first was the China Glaze shade in Stone Cold, I’d pulled this out to do a throwback on the Hunger Games collection and this was one that had completely dried up. The second was a gold glitter shade from W7, the name label has fallen off so I can’t be sure what it was called, but I’m pretty sure it was “Gold Glitter” – creative huh?

I’ll go over the recap as to where I am at the end of my next empties but I’m still pretty much on track in terms of value used up so far and number of items to where I thought I would be by the end of the year!

You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here. There’s already a few products I’ve managed to finish up from my latest Products I’m Trying to Use Up, and if you love an empties post and you haven’t been keeping up you can click here to see my Ten Empties series so far.

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these products before or what your thoughts are too! And of course if you know of any dupes for the Kat Von D Lock it foundation.

Rats to hear about trying to find a dupe for one of your favourite foundations, hope you manage to come up with one! A few weeks ago I splurged on OGX’s Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner, I’ve tried the minis before which I really liked so I’m hoping when I start using it my opinion doesn’t change.

It’s such a unique texture for a foundation for me, I’ve not tried anything similar to date!
The argan oil line from the OGX line is the one that really didn’t work for me – it made my hair so greasy and limp! I hope it stays performing well for you! x

Oh no, that’s horrible 🙁 everyone’s hair is different though x
