Products I’m Trying To Use Up – Summer 2018

Products I’m Trying To Use Up – Summer 2018

I took a little review of the my past few editions of these and was pretty delighted to see that I’d managed to finish up about 80% of the products in the posts. So it was time to have a dig through my collection and isolate a bunch of new products out to concentrate on over summer, I don’t want to jinx it, but the possibilities of moving in the not too distant future are looking quite promising so clearing out every last bottle I can do is going to be welcome when it comes to packing.

Skincare

NIOD Multi Moleular Hyaluronic Complex
Niod is an offshoot of Deciem and as I’m no longer supporting them I’m trying to get any last traces of products used up and gone. I’m down to the last few products but having just finished up another moisurising active I thought this would be a good one to get finished and gone ASAP. It’s brand new so I’ve got whole bottle to go through, but I find these serums are easy to burn through.

No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Serum
This is a product I recently found in my bedside drawer, I think I must have had a decent stab at trying it out last year (although I can’t remember!) – but there’s only about a third left in this which makes it an easy candidate to get finished up and gone. I have to say after the first week of using this I find it really doesn’t go very far!

Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment (review)
Since I’ve just finished up my Midnight Recovery from Kiehl’s it’s time that this one goes too. Whilst I do enjoy this I’m ready for a change and I have a completely different eye cream from M&S waiting in the wings to be used. There’s not too much left and given Ben and I share an eye cream (that leech of a boy) I think we’ll be through this in a couple of weeks at most. But it’s been already being worked through on the sidelines for a few months so I wanted to include it anyway.

Bomb Cosmetics Strawberry Daquiri Lip Balm
I was given this at an event recently and I found that it soon became my go-to for evening. It’s got a such a rich silky texture I find I can slather this on without worry. I have stacked up all my lip balms into one pile and I have quite a lot of part finished ones on the go and a fair few unopened ones so it would be nice to clear out one, even if it’s the smallest of the bunch!

Fragrance

Victoria’s Secret Secret Escape Body Mist
Down to my last VS bottle and I think this will be a lot easier to finish up than the last. I’m enjoying this scent a lot more than the blue bottle I just finished up which took almost a year. I’m not concerntrating on any perfumes this time at all but I have selected chunky bottles to try and get gone.

The Body Shop Harvest Peach Body Spray
I had this on my to finish up list last summer and did a terrible job of getting anywhere close to empty. I do enjoy this but it’s such a summery fragrance for me it gets put away throughout the rest of the year. I use this if I’m just at home and want to smell nice without wasting a perfume or sometimes with layering with other perfumes to give them a different vibe.

Makeup

theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer
This has featured in every one of these posts for over a year and it’s finally so close to the end. I don’t want to curse myself but I think give this another month or so and it’ll finally be used up. I mention every time I talk about this that it’s definitely a love hate product for me. I find I have issues with this blending over certain foundations.

MAC Sunbasque Bronzer
Another bronzer! This featured in my last one of these and I lost it for a good month in between now and then so it’s not made as much progress as I’d have liked. I’m not much of a shimmery bronzer person but this is one I’d like to see get gone and finished… it’s old, like the second thing I ever bought in MAC old after seeing it used in a video by Pixiwoo. This is a little orangey for me and I have to embrace it when it’s warm and sunny, AND most importantly when I have a tan.

Your Good Skin Anti-Shine Base Lotion (review)
I purchased this whilst on the hunt for my MAC Oil control lotion which I love and this one just didn’t deliver anywhere near enough and it was roughly the same price. I’ve been using it as my go-to primer for a few weeks and I’m really unimpressed with it. I will be happy to see the back of this from my drawer.

ARK Anti-Aging Primer (review)
I never really gelled too well with this primer in the past as I never found it suited my skin too well – but the longness of it’s bottle has always annoyed me in the drawer and now I’m less oily it feels like it’s a good time to try and get it finished off, it also has SPF in so is a good candidate to be used for days at home. The pump on this seems to have given up working which means I’m resulting to some manual scraping of the barrel, and it would be in my top five products in this post I’d really like to see the back of.

MAC Strobe Cream
I’ve never been much of an illuminating lotion kind of girl and now I’m not as oily as I used to be I’m not as scared about adding some faux shine in certain situations. I bought this to see what the hype was about for this product and honestly I feel like it does nothing to me. I’ve tried it as a base, I’ve tried it mixed in and the results are barely noticeable. I can see some effects if I tap it over my cheekbones with a beauty blender…. but then it tends to lift foundation off too. I have other illuminating creams in my collection I’ve tried over the past month that I prefer so it would be nice to clear this one out.

Korres Wild Rose Foundation
I’ve had this longer than I should admit and peering into the bottle I could see it only had about a third left in it, which made it a perfect candidate to get finished up as it’s also the perfect shade for me right now. This is quite a thin feeling foundation which offers decent natural looking overage. I’ll be happy to clear this one out from the drawer and it’s a heavy glass bottle too which takes up a lot of space!

The Ordinary Serum Foundation (review)
So the second Deciem product on this list, This I’d estimate at about half full, it’s quite dark for me so I’m trying to use this up wisely during the summer on days straight after I’ve caught the sun. I posted a review of this here and for me it’s too short performance and not enough coverage. It’s not what I like in a foundation.

Maybelline Gel Liner
I want to give myself a pat on the back for finishing all of my liquid liners (although I have just received one In PR this week) I’ve already decided I want to prioritise this to get finished up. This is the best gel liner I’ve tried at any price point and it’s about 80% done, it’s starting to dry out a little so I want to give it a good go at being finished up completely so I can repurchase it in future. Thoroughly recommend if you are in the market for a gel liner, I will review this next time I purchase it as I’ve never gotten around to it!

Bodycare

Polaar Hand Cream
I don’t know what it is about this product as it’s good, I just can’t seem to find myself forced into using it. I don’t know whether it’s the lack of scent, or the packaging means my eye just casts over it on my bedside but it’s featured in the last two or three of these posts and I’m still not done with it. It’s a token gesture to include it again.

Haircare

Lee Stafford Heat Protection Spray
I’ve annoyingly broke the cap on this which means it’s no longer good for travel and is a bit of a hazzard in my hair product drawer too. This is a nice enough heat protector but I find so many of my other products have a heat protector in so I don’t feel like I need to use it as regularly any more and only when my hair is dry and being restyled. It would be nice to see this gone so I purely don’t have to have a broken bottle of it!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion Spray
I am never really that into salt sprays as I find that they have a tendancy to make my hair feel unclean, this one is no exception but I wanted to try and get it used up as it seemed easier being a smaller size, and one less product in the hair drawer is music to my ears.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray
Now I’ve had about 50% of my hair chopped off my head I like using some volumising products to give myself some boosted roots and some extra texture, when my hair was long before it felt like products like this would weigh them down. I haven’t used this a whole lot and I’m not too sure what I think of it but again – an overcrowded hair products drawer makes me want to finish stuff up.

What are you trying to use up this Summer?

I have found it really helps me to isolate some products and have them in a pile. Really helps me get things finished!

I feel like I’ve just started to get the hack of actually using products up. But good luck!!

I used to really struggle finishing anything – I started picking a few products from every category to concerntrate on and I soon saw my empties pile increasing!

Oh man, I have so many things I need to use up to thin down my stash. My problem areas are soaps, shower gels and moisturisers (face and body). Once I get them all unpacked I will have a look and see what I can do damage on this summer to use up 😀

I’ve only just come to the end of my huge stash of shower gels etc, it’s taken me about 2 years to get on top of it! I do still have too many moisturisers (face and body too!) I can’t use them as quick as they seem to arrive! I Find having a pile of products to use up makes it motivating for me to see that pile get smaller as the months go on!

I also bought the The Ordinary foundation and I have a funny feeling I’ll never see the end of it…
Are you happy with the Kiehl’s eye cream? A lot of people swear by it.

Oh, funny. I used a whole bottle and didn’t see any results.

Great post, and a really great idea to isolate products that you want to finish off!
I might have to borrow this idea, both to get my drawers cleaned out, and for my blog 😉
Thanks for sharing, I loved reading it!
