Worth the Hype? Klair’s Supple Preparation Facial Toner

When you look up the Klair’s Supple Preparation Facial Toner, you’ll see nothing but rave reviews for this product – and recently an new unscented version of it launched and I was offered the chance to give it a try – a quick check of the original reviews was enough to convince this non-lover of toners to put it to the test.

I feel like the products on Wishtrend all nail it on the packaging – the line Klair’s I feel like they are particularly on point and it very much reminds me of a similar vibe to Kiehl’s – that simple almost apothecary-esque packaging that looks like something that will work wonders. The box that this comes in is an untreated raw cardboard with a purple print that mimics the bottle style on the front. The bottle itself is clear and simple with matching purple label on the front.

Whilst the packaging is quality it’s also the one downfall and criticism that I have of it – the bottle is very rigid and hard so you can’t squeeze product out at all and the product has a thick texture which meant it didn’t easily escape the hole at the top. It would be better if it came with some kind of pump.

The texture of the toner is so unusual compared to other toners that I’ve tried (which I’ll admit is not all that many, I’m only just starting to appreciate them as a skincare step). The texture is thick and gel like, borderline gloopy to the touch, I’ve found when applying to a cotton pad that they tend to soak up a lot of it onto the cotton pad and I feel like I have to use more than I would with a more liquidy toner.

Toners for me are a step which are used to remove the last traces of any product left on the skin, remove that last bit of makeup that’s invisible to the eye and this does do a great job of doing just that. The one thing I will say with this is that I don’t love it if used on the skin without any additional skincare steps following. That gloopy gel texture does become more sticky once rubbed across the skin and it doesn’t go away until another product is massaged in on top of it – the sticky residue isn’t so strong that it interferes too much with a moisturiser or serum, but alone you can feel this light residue masking the skin which isn’t particularly pleasant.

It describes itself as being part of the moisturising skin care program, I don’t notice that this is particularly moisturising, at least nothing notable in my past 3-4 weeks of solidly putting it to the test, however equally in the same breath it isn’t drying either. I will vouch for the fact that this is completely unscented – it’s rare that a product I feel is truly unscented, but a sniff of this gives off absolutely nothing back. I haven’t tried the original, but the reviews of it I have read say that the scent was strong on the medicinal smell.
