Ten Empties #10

Ten Empties #10

I didn’t think it we would be at number ten at this series so soon in the year and I’m kind of glad with the products that I finished up for this one – they feel like special products for the tenth edition (as silly as that sounds!). We’ll get hopped right in to the items!

Makeup

Stila Stay All Day Brow Pencil (review)
This recently featured in a current makeup favourites post and I’m sad I’ve finished it up! I have 2 that I left at my friends house I really need to go and collect – but in the meantime I’m finishing up the one remaining brow pencil I have in my collection. This has such a small micro nib and a spoolie on the other end – I find it lasts all day and this shade – Dark brown – is the perfect shade for me.
Repurchase? Already have!

MAC Oil Control Lotion (review)
It was a toss up whether to put this as part of skincare or makeup, but I decided makeup as I only ever wear it when I wear makeup as a primer, but it’s a moisturiser/primer. This worked really well for me while my skin was at it’s oiliest for balancing it – but I’ve spoken a few times recently about a shift in my skin and I don’t feel like I absolutely need this as much as I used to.  Totally recommend if you have oily skin.
Repurchase? Maybe in future if my skin starts going back oily again!

Bodycare

Lush Bubbly Shower Gel
In the January Sales I was set a challenge to shop the sales by my local shopping centre focussing on deals that could be found in Beauty and of course Lush gift sets has to be a place that I had to stop. I picked up a set that was mainly focussed on shower products – this one was so underwhelming. This was suppsed to be a bucks fizz scented one and for me it was just mildy orangey, I didn’t get any fizzing champagne popping through and the packaging of it drove me nuts. WHY IS THE PLASTIC SO SOLID?!
Repurchase? No

Haircare

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Genius Lotion (review)
This is my third tube that I’ve finished up of this and I’ll be holding off re-buying it for a while in a bid to finish up other hair care in my drawer. One of the reasons I like this is that it’s a great multi-use product so it’s great for travelling and not having loads of bottles – it’s smoothing, heat protecting, great for blow-drying, amongst many other qualities (including a great coconut scent). I have lots of products to use up that do similar things if I cocktail them together, and as long as I have this in my drawer I won’t reach for them out of laziness.
Repurchase? Yes in future, but for now no!

Skincare

Primark Nourishing and Softening Mask (review)
I won’t talk in too much detail about this as it was reviewed only about 10 days ago in my Face Mask Friday,  but this wasn’t my favourite Primark mask and it wasn’t my least either – but for just 80p it wasn’t too bad.
Repurchase? Maybe

7th Heaven Black Seaweed Peel Off Mask (review)
Again, only recently reviewed last week so I won’t talk too much about it – but it was a revisit for me that didn’t really pay off well!
Repurchase? No

Marks and Spencer Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream (review)
I’d heard amazing things about this moisturiser and I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to try it by M&S. It’s worth every bit of the hype it was given and I was gutted when it was coming to the end! The Sleep Cream wasn’t too heavy feeling but was amazing at moisturising and smoothing my skin. I could always tell on days where I forgot to use this. I’m currently testing out some new moisturisers for review but you better bet I’ll be cracking open a new tub of this soon.
Repurchase? I have kindly been sent a back up my M&S – but I would have 100% repurchased.

Pixi Rose Tonic
A deluxe sized sample that worked really well for me, I was sceptical as to whether it was going to as I really didn’t get on with Glow Tonic in the past. But this had a nice rosey scent, and I found it to be a good substitute for the Elemis toner (more on that in as second). I was surprised at how many uses I actually managed to get out of this bottle. The full size bottle would last a good chunk of time.
Repurchase? Unlikely, but maybe.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
This has been on my use up list for a while and it took forever, Ben and I have been using this up since before Christmas, but this tube lasted me two years overall. A great night cream that is perfect for moisturising as well as balancing out any dark circles.
Repurchase? Not straight away but yes.

Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner
I’ve had this for years and that last little bit in the bottom won’t spray out. This has recenty got me into facial spray and mists and I ended up really enjoying using it, I found that it was so refreshing on the skin and worked really well underneath my moisturiser or as a pick me up through the day if I was at home wearing no makeup.
Repurchase? Maybe

Extras

System Professional Colour Save Mask
I was kindly given a sample of this at an event (so thanks to local salon PKai for providing). I haven’t heard of this brand before but since I was given this sample I’ve had countless sponsored posts for it popping up on my instagram feed. I only managed 1.5 uses out of this and had to top the second use up with normal conditioner. It wasn’t enough for me to tell if it was working for me!

Innside by Melia Shampoo
Another hotel sample used to clean my makeup brushes and sponges… can’t repurchase this if I tried this was labelled for the hotel!

Molton and Brown Purifying Indian Cress Shampoo
I got this in my last Tili Box and managed to get 2-3 uses out of it. Seemed fine, virtually scentless but unlikely to rebuy Molton and Brown hair care.

The Body Shop CC Cream Bright Glow and Skin Defence SPF 50 Samples
Again from a goodie bag at an event, the Skin Defence I have and already use (best SPF for undermakeup I’ve found!) and the CC cream made me look like a ghost – I could see the glowy effect it had but it really made me look pastey at the same time. Not good for my skintone.

Calvin Klein Deep Euphoria Perfume
I’ve had this sample for ages and finally got around to give it a good try, I’d describe this as… generic? With a word like Deep in the name I’d expected it to be darker and sultry.

bareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion
I’ve always gotten along with this when I’ve had samples of this in the past and it’s on my list of products to purchase at some point (when my skincare cupboard is a lot smaller!). This seems to work really well with my skin and is great at moisturising.

bareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Eye Gel Cream
I can see how this is related to the serum above it has a very similar kind of texture. I got a couple of uses out of this sachet and enjoyed it. Would consider giving it a try in future too.

You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here. Thanks to a good handful of products at £20+ in this empties I’ve now hit the £800 value mark for the year so far! My products I’ve been trying to use up series has been really helping me on my way for finishing items up, and I’ve neaerly finished everything from my last two, so it might be time to isolate a few products to continue with my project pan-esque route. if you would like to read the first posts in the series, you can click here to see what I already finished up this year and read through my others.

Have you tried any of these? What have you finished up recently – let me know in the comments below!

Great post!! I really want to try the rose or glow tonic, I hear so many good stuff about them. why didn’t the glow tonic work out for you?

I’m used to much stronger Glycolic toners and the % in it just meant I didn’t see any effects compared to what I normally use! Also expensive for what it was I found.

I love empties lol. About your answer to the previous comment: what glycolic toners do you normally use?

I’m currently using the Ordinary one, which I really like but I won’t be rebuying when it’s empty because of the whole Ordinary saga at the moment… I’ll have to find a new one!

Ah yes. I’ve had my eyes on that acid too!

We have very different opinions about Lush Bubbly! I also don’t think Bucks Fizz is the best comparison but I love the citrus smell, it’s so refreshing in the morning for me, I have back ups for my back ups of this!

I whacked open a couple of LUSH products from the Christmas box I got over the sale and Bubbly was amongst one of them which I’m halfway through using at the moment. I actually do like this one – I find this easier to squeeze out than this other LUSH shower gel (the name escapes me but it’s a grapefruit-y one) BUT I know exactly what you mean about the plastic being so solid. I had that problem with not Bubbly, but with the other product. If not for the boxes, I really wouldn’t buy the shower gels individually when you can probably get 3 big sized shower gels elsewhere, say, at like Home Bargains for that kinda money.
