Three Reviews from Makeup Revolution & Makeup Revolution Pro

Three Reviews from Makeup Revolution & Makeup Revolution Pro

A few years ago you couldn’t see me make it through a haul without hauling something from the TAM beauty range of brands, but I don’t quite know what happened but my interest dwindled over the past year – I think mainly because I have just really started enjoying brand exploration and trying new lines. There was however a new extended launch from Revolution – their new Makeup Revolution Pro line – that caught my eye over the past few months and finally 3 or so weeks ago I got to a Superdrug, found it in stock to see with my own eyes. And I’ve been playing and putting them all to the test for a good few weeks.

Makeup Revolution Pro – Bewitch Supreme Eye Palette (£6.00)

There are a range of the Supreme Shadows from the new Revolution Pro range and of course I was drawn to the warm tone one (I’m such a sucker for those warm tones). I’d heard this reviewed positively on Gemma etc’s blog and it was my number one list  to try and I’ll have to admit that right off the bat when I got it home and started putting it to the test that this was completely perplexing.

There’s one matte shade in this palette and the rest are really foily metallics, there’s one shade (the fifth along from left to right) that has a slight duochrome quality. They have a really odd texture that is both buttery an powdery at the same time, when you use these it creates a lot of loose pigment in the pan and also a lot of fallout on the eyes. They swatch amazingly with a finger with high pigment but they don’t really work too well with a brush unless you wet the brush first. The only thing I can think to compare them to is the Colourpop Supershock shadows in terms of application.

The photo above you can clearly see that there is a lot of fall out on my cheek as well as the pigment being pretty poor on the lid – that was two ‘goes over’ the lid with the shadow dry and as you can see it would have taken a lot more to get it to fully opaque and it did. The pictures below show the shadow on the left eye used wet with fix plus (which still required building up and the shadow on the right was just dry built up over and over. This eye look was used completely with the palette below using the cream shade through the transition and the olive shade (dry on both sides) on the outer corner.

What I’ve come to learn over time is that this isn’t a standalone palette for me and it’s one that is to be use with other eyeshadows. The cream matte shade in this palette is a bit useless to me and I’d rather it have been a full palette of foily metallics – if I’m pulling out another palette to use darker mattes alongside it, I may as well use a transition shade at the same time. Once they are on the lid applied wet they do look nice but I feel like it just takes a bit of patience to get them there.

I can live with all of the above but the one thing I find a bit disappointing is the shade selection over all  – there are two pairs of shades which are very similar to one another and I could have definitely have coped with one or the other. The second and third shades in this palette are lighter coppers that look virtually identical on the eye as are the darker two coppers (shades 6 and 7). The look below is using my ‘standard’ go-to eyeshadow method with the duochrome shade, which isn’t too different to that gold once on the eye.

Overall I think for the price if you are interested that they are worth a try, but don’t expect these to be a complete palette that you won’t want to use other shadows with, but for the price I can’t complain too much and I would be intrigued to see what other palette colourways that they have in this range, a gorgeous brights or jewel tones in this palette would be totally gorgeous.

Makeup Revolution Pro – Supreme Matte Lip Pigment in Foresight (£4.00)

Makeup Revolution Pro Supreme Matte Lip Pigment / Liquid Lipsticks

Next up another item from Revolution Pro, was the Matte Lip Tints, in the shop I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this and it looked an entirely different colour – I though I had picked out a gorgeous deep red that I could compliment a gold eye with in the palette (so I don’t love the combo you’ll see at at the end). But despite me saying all that I adore this colour.

Packaging wise these remind me of the YSL Glossy stains but the texture isn’t similar at all, it has a slightly sticky mousse type texture which applies really nicely and glides along the lips with ease and pigment applies densely and evenly in one swipe. When it first goes on it doesn’t feel dry straight away and providing you’re careful and wait for it to set – which takes around 20 minutes – but one it’s on it locks into place and is really long lasting.

The formula sets like a matte but it doesn’t have a true flat matte finish – something I personally prefer and I’m growing out of the love for things completely matte and like something with a satin like finish which is what these have. This particular shade makes my teeth look ultra white and these have such good wear time and even stay sturdy through eating and drinking. I’ve worn this all day for work, snacked and drank copious cups of tea through the day it’s not needed touching up. I definitely recommend checking these out and I will 100% be going back to see what other shades they have available, I’m very impressed with this formula.

Makeup Revolution – Conceal and Define Concealer (£4.00)

Makeup Revolution - Conceal and Define Concealer

This concealer has had it’s fair amount of hype since it launched, I’ve been into Superdrug many times to try and shade match myself and have always found either my colours had been opened or nothing was in stock in my shade. The last time I was in and I lucked out, colour matching myself to C5.

And I have to say, I can see what the hype is about. Reportedly a dupe for the iconic Tarte Shape Tape which I haven’t got around to trying, but what I love about this is that it has a neutral undertone, which is where my skin tone sits. This is a good all round shade for me that’s not too dark to use under my eyes, but also not too light to use over spots, it has great coverage, but feels light on the skin whilst still having good pigment.

Below you can see this applied heavily and unblended at the bottom whilst at the top you can see it blended and patted down, it has a natural semi-satin sheen which looks natural, not leaning too matte or too glowy. Below I applied it under my eyes and just above my jawline where I have some scarring to cover and just below where I was going to cream contour – you can see the finish at the bottom blended out without any powder setting it in place and you can see how natural it looked.

I have a drawer full of concealer at the moment and I’m really trying to consolidate what I have down by using up some – particularly my least favourites – but I can’t stop myself reaching for this at the moment. I can see why this mascara has had it’s share of adoring fans and I can see how people also love it for cream contouring too, when I finish this I will definitely be repurchasing and plan to pick up some extra shades at the same time to try contouring with too. If you’ve been meaning to try, I ten out of ten wholly recommend this. Stellar concealer at an extremely good price. You don’t get masses of product in here, and certainly not a comparable amount to the Shape Tape which is huge, but it’s on at a fantastic price to balance that out and is worth every penny.

I’ve been doing quite a few of these more round up reviews/overviews recently and would love some feedback as to whether you like this kind of post instead of ones that are more in depth on individual shades. I really enjoyed putting this one together for some mini overviews, so I hope you enjoyed reading!

The experience with all three of these products have left me wanting to dive back in to Revolution again, the Pro range has left me impressed – and definitely intrigued to try more. The Makeup Revolution Pro range comes at a premium to the normal Revolution line, but it feels deservedly so! It feels like that Revolution Pro line has stepped away from the total dupe like feeling, whilst there are still some designs which remind me of higher end brands (the NARS audacious lipsticks spring to mind), but they’ve not gone as far as duping palettes entirely (which does have it’s place I know) – but it feels like they’re working a bit more on their own ideas. I’m very intrigued to try out more from the Makeup Revolution Pro line, let me know if there’s any things you’ve tried that I need to get my hands on soon!

Have you tried Revolution Pro Yet? or that Favoured concealer?

Great reviews!! the packaging of the lipstick does remind me a lot of the YSL lip gloss, I actually really love it and it’s nice to hear that the formula is good!

I bought one of the liquid lipsticks and really didn’t like it but I’m wondering if it’s more the particular shade I got that’s the problem. The one you’ve tried looks gorgeous, the shade is perfect and it doesn’t look like mine did x

I had a quick look at the other shades online yesterday and the reviews on them were very hit and miss for different shades so it may well be to do with the shades! It really is a lovely shade!

Hi, I really enjoyed your in-depth review. That lip pigment is extremely reminiscent of the Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment (I’d say the Warm Leatherette shade, from the looks of it).
I’ve tried the concealer in a bunch of shades and it just doesn’t work for me, it’s too drying. I’ve tried every way of applying it 🙁
I also have a few MUR eyeshadow palettes (although not the one you just reviewed), and I feel the same way: they’re meh. But what can we expect at such a competitive prince point?
K, I’m off to buy that lip pigment :DDD

I have some of the NARS powermattes and the texture is different – the NARS is much thinner, but is thinner on the NARS but the finish on the lips is quite similar (and so is the packaging!) Oh I don’t find the concealer drying at all – it does seem to be a very polarising product though.
I feel like the palettes are just a bit odd – if they were larger with a few more mattes I could understand them a bit more but they feel like they’re not covering enough bases with it – they’re a bit too hard for me to work with and I can’t see myself reaching for it all that much now I’ve reviewed it, but I would still be interested in seeing if they had a lovely range of jewel tones in this formula!

I definitely need to try out the concealer. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I have only used revolutions eyeshadow palettes before and I love how pigmented they are 🙂 great review and I love your make up look.

I got my as soon as, as they sold out in many Superdrug stores and had only certain shades left. Popular shades went real quick. Love the concealer it’s similar to Tarte. Love his post x
