Milking It – TK Maxx Haul May 2018

Yesterday was filled with stress and disappointment that I felt like I needed a stop into my happy place on the way home (TK Maxx), I’d heard rumours that there was ABH palettes floating around for £25 and whilst I was unable to find any in my local the other rumours I heard were true and in stock. Milk Makeup.

This is just a mini and quick haul, a little PSA if you like for my fellow UK enthusiasts. For those across the water who might not be aware, we can’t get Milk anywhere in the UK yet (although I believe at some point it’s coming to Cult Beauty or Space NK this year!) – but the prices were so incredibly good and hard to resist, and a TK Maxx Voucher burning a hole in my pocket, I had to cradle the haul to the checkout like I was Golem guarding my ring.

I have a feeling the people of Peterborough did not know what gems were lying on the shelves as everything was unopened and unswatched. (Sidenote lots of Tarte palettes also available!). Sorry for the slightly dodgy photos – I got home 7.30 last night the light was just passable and I decided to roll with it and get this post out the door like an excited child…

Milk Makeup Face Mist – £4.99
If you saw my Five New In Skincare post on Monday you’ll know I’ve kinda been getting into this whole facial spritz thing and I couldn’t resist the chance to pick up Milk’s. Describing itself as anti-inflammatory, hydrating, calming, refreshing and toning it can be used as part of a skincare regime or over makeup too. It’s not the nicest smelling spritz, but it’s something I can overlook – first impressions it’s a very wet spray, and I think for me it would be too much on top of makeup, but for a skincare step it’s good for me!

Milk Makeup Micellar Gel Makeup Remover – £4.99
I’ve tried a gel micellar remover in the past from Garnier and didn’t get on too well with it as I found it left a sticky residue behind, but I’m curious to see whether this one is any better. One thing I do like is that pump style packaging I can just place my cotton pad on top of like nail varnish. Big fan excited to put to the test when my current Micellar is all out!

Milk Makeup Urban Defence Mask – £4.99
Oh my! There was no way I was saying no to this Face Mask! It’s such a huge tub too! I haven’t peeked inside yet as it’s protected by a aluminium protective layer so will keep it on until I’m ready to use – but the packaging says that it’s a gel mask which is rich in vitamin E, helps protect against impurities whilst also hydrating. My skin is particularly good at the moment and I’m not really battling any spots, oiliness or breakouts so this might be a good one to start putting to the test now… Weekend plans, sorted.

Milk Makeup Shadow Liner in Working Girl – £4.99
I wasn’t quite sure what I was signing up for with this and the top had a kind of milky hue to it that I couldn’t tell what was underneath. It’s a very pigmented gel textured liner that has an interesting tapered point to it. It will be impossible to sharpen so I’m interested to see how this wears as I use it and whether it just becomes a solid rouded block of product rendered useless. One thing I noticed after swatching on my hand is just how much of a stain this leaves behind, I imagine if you left this to set properly it ain’t gonna budge and I’m looking forward to testing out!

Milk Makeup Lip Marker in Rare Breed – £4.99
I wish I’d taken a photo of this with it’s lid off! It looks like a highlighter on the outside and the nib is exactly the same, I haven’t seen another product I can think of that’s remotely similar. unfortunately this seems pretty dried out – I’ve left balacing upside down to see if I can get some product flowing to the nib (any tips let me know!) but I may have to return this in a few days if not. The shade is meant to be a pretty berry tone and I was so intrigued to give this a try. Fingers crossed it’s possible, but right now it gives a pretty patchy application on my arm let alone my lips. Maybe give these a swerve if you see them (or be prepared to return!)

Hope you enjoyed my little quick overview. I will be reporting back in due course what I think of the items of course! So if you’ve been wanting to try Milk, walk RUN to your local TK Maxx now and pray enroute they have something! Sadly the things I’ve been wanting to try most, the makeup sticks were no where to be seen. Alas I live in hope they’ll arrive to the UK soon!

Also if I read your blog and comment regularly I just wanted to say sorry I haven’t been around too much recently – selling a house has been much more time consuming and stressful than buying a house for the first time ever was! I’m hoping to be back to normal with a bit more free time to catch up soon! I’m just about finding time to keep mine ticking over at the moment (Finishing writing this at midnight the night, six hours before this is due to post!). I’ve also had a slight job change in the past few weeks which has really tired me out too and overall I haven’t really been feeling myself for the past few weeks!

Have you tried Milk Makeup?

I bought the micellar I was really excited to try it but then for some reason I think maybe it had gone off or had been on the shelf too long but for some reason smelt kind of like sushi so I was really bummed

I don’t really know this brand and I am wondering what are the ingredients. I can understand how selling the house might be stressful, I never sold mine (since I don’t really own one) but I can tell you when I was moving to another rented flat I was fuming with stress.

Buying wasn’t as stressful as selling is! We’re having a really bad experience with our estate agents at the moment and it’s not making the process any easier!

I can almost guarantee that my TK Maxx will not have any gems (but it won’t stop me from going and looking!) very excited to hear about the mask as I haven’t heard anyone talk about it xx

Take all the time you need, life and personal stuff comes first – especially something like buying and selling a house xx

Really interesting… haven’t heard of this brand before.

I went online in the end as my store had been well raided! Managed to pick up some Too Faced melted lipsticks for £5 each, some MUF and some Nars bits ❤️

I always find good hidden gems in TK Maxx if you spend the time to look, but again I’ve not heard of this brand either.

As if you found Milk Makeup at your local TK Maxx! I find some good skincare and accessory gems there but I never really find anything exciting makeup-wise. The only exception is when I picked up a Make Up For Ever kit which I’ve yet to open actually! This is exciting though – can’t wait to read more.

Because of this post…I ran to my nearest TK Maxx and managed to get the only product! The mask!!! Can’t wait to try it xx

I think I need to get myself down to Peterbourough, the one in Blackpool just constantly stocks Cargo and Revlon 🙁 All of these look amazing though, you’re so lucky! I heard that they had Desert Dusk palettes at one point but nothing exciting ever comes up north lol.

    • May 19, 2018 / 7:41 am

Oh I definitely lucked out! There was still a tonne of cargo and reckon! Mine is very hit and miss and I suspect I might have arrived not long after a restock, as nothing was destroyed or open (often a downfall if I do find anything good!)
I heard the same thing about the huda palettes I was going to look for them but then realised I really didn’t like the mini obsessions palettes so even if it was a good deal it would probably be a waste of my money!

This is so fabulous! Lucky that you got MILK in your TJ MAXX. How do you get TJ Maxx vouchers?

I also got the milk lip marker. Mine works well (as in it’s not dry) BUT!! ITS THE STICKIEST THING EVER. It literally feels like I have glue on them if I purse them together. Did you find that? I may return mine…

    • May 27, 2018 / 7:50 am

I’ve not been able to get mine working, I’ve left it for 2 weeks upside down and it’s still so dry 🙁 Sounds like I’m not missing out on much!

You are so dedicated, Rachel! Writing when it’s ZZZzzz takes so much strength! Milk makeup… hm… is this that blur stick brand? The packaging looks similar but different at the same time.

    • June 4, 2018 / 9:14 pm

Yes it is the same brand – Sadly no Blur sticks seen about I think it’s mainly been products that they seem to have discontinued!
