Soft Lips & Smooth Hips with Hempz

A few months ago I was offered to try some pieces out from the brand Hempz, unfortunately these slipped to the bottom of the pile of products to try and photograph and it’s only over the past three or so weeks that I’ve actually managed to get around to putting these two items to the test. Hempz is a brand I hadn’t heard of before but once I started doing my research I saw that they were a brand that were quite well stocked in the US at Ulta.

Hempz is a brand which has been around for over 20 years and harnesses the power of Hemp Seed Oil – an ingredient known to be rich in vitamins & very moisturising. I was sent two products to try out and one has become part of my nightly bedside routine already.

Sweet Pineapple and Honey Melon Bath and Body Oil

This has been a bit of a trickier product for me to get to grips with using. Initially the first whiffs of this product are gorgeous, the pineapple is sweet and summery without being sickly whilst it’s toned down by the softer notes of the melon, however once I found it had sat on the skin for 5-10 minutes the fruit scents evaporated and left an almost natural waxy scent behind which was less pleasant.

Whilst it works fantastically to moisturise the body I found myself layering it with other body butters and lotions that had a stronger scent to balance out the natural scent that was left behind, I didn’t find that the extra level of effort needed was warranted for me, so instead I turned to using it as a Bath Oil.

I first tried to use this as a shower oil, but found that the consistency was generally too runny to be best put to use in the shower as it had a tendency to just run through wet fingers as the product wasn’t viscose enough. So it became a product which has sat on the bath-side. I’ve been putting a heavy dose of this into a rare-bath for me to create a luxurious nourishing experience.

Paired with hot steamy water this filled the room with delicious light pineapple scent which lingered in the air – that natural fragrance note was much less noticeable. Emerging from the bath my skin felt deliciously soft and smooth and gave me the feeling that I normally get from a shower oil – pampered, nourished and relaxed.

Hempz Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm

This is a lovely little balm that’s becoming part of my routine. I wouldn’t say this is a light feeling balm, but I wouldn’t say it’s heavy either it sits in a really happy medium that feels very comfortable and nourishing on the lips without any stickiness. It’s has a very smooth and silky feeling – almost silicone primeresque kind of quality where the lips look and feel smoother.

This has a very light unoffensive scent and flavour – that I found hard to pinpoint down to what it actually was/reminded me of, it was like a fruit that leaned kinda citrusy whilst still leaning on the sweet side. The website gave me no clues as to what the actual flavour was but it wasn’t a sickly un-natural taste.

This comes in a simple squeezey tube with a plastic topped applicator – of which doesn’t really work to apply to the product – I find it just smears the product and becomes a bit messy, so I use it to roughly swipe my lips, but then actually using my finger to rub it in. For that reason is why it’s become a bedside product is because I don’t like getting my fingers involved for on-the-go applications – something I can swipe on without a second care about where my hands have been is always preferred.

Another reason I find it’s suited for bedtime is because when you talk or are moving your lips a lot it tends to wear away quite quickly – it’s not a balm that immediately sinks in to the lips and needs time – so bedtime when I finally shut up and stop eating/drinking tea for the day is the perfect time to apply this and let it do it’s business overnight.

Overnight the vegan formula of Hemp Seed, Avocado and Shea Butter sets to work and leaves my lips feeling soft and smooth by morning. Whilst we had the horrible snow a few weeks ago my lips were almost looking like shrivelled prunes and this kept bringing life back to my lips by morning.

These are two products which are becoming a nice nighttime treat – whilst I’m not a huge bath person it’s nice to have a product sitting in my bathroom that I can rely on in those times where I need a bath thanks to achy muscles.
