Products I’m Trying to Use Up Spring 2018 – Part 2

I decided to review what I’d put on this list after my huge organising session over the past few weeks as I’d put everything to where it should be, and failed to remember a lot of what was on that list. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the size of the list (which was huge at 25) was a lot shorter with 11 of those now being in my empties and several being very close to the mark too.

A lot of the items which were left on my list are the ones which are harder to use up and are taking more time and effort – whilst some were just targets to start using, rather than to use up. But it felt like the perfect opportunity to pick out some new targets to be used up now my collection is reorganised and easy to pick out some things I’d like to declutter. I decided to reinclude most of the items from my original spring list and update how easy I’ve found making progress.

Skincare

Sunday Riley Luna
I’ve not used this as often as I’d intended and have only used it 4-5 times at best I would guess. I’ve found myself keeping my routine more simple at night recently whist I’d been testing my new sleep cream from M&S as I wanted to see what it did by itself, so I will now start combining this in as an extra step.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream
Dare I say that I think this might be nearly empty? Ben and I have been going ham with this the past few weeks, we’ve had too many late nights thanks to work and home stress and this has been our saviour. I think I’m down to the last 1/4 or so of it, so I’m hoping it’s not too long before I can move onto another eye cream. This has been used pretty religiously between us.

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Cleanser
I have  cleansers currently cycling in the shower and this is one that will be easiest to use up… but is also one I’d be glad to see gone. I had such high hopes for this as I loved the pads from the range but the cleanser I don’t feel as if it’s doing anything for me. I’d be very happy to be one cleanser down and see this gone.

Elemis Apricot Toner
I’ve had this for a long time and it’s been forgotten for way too long at the back of my cupboard. I always used to use this on a cotton pad, but I’ve decided to actually use it as a spray on my face after cleansing in the evening and let it sink in, or in the morning pre makeup which I’m enjoying way more. Will I rebuy it? Unlikely, but I don’t think this should be too hard to use up. I’ve used it too on and off over the years to know whether it does anything for my skin so I will report back in my empties.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid
Again, I haven’t used this as much as I’d intended. I’ve had a few breakouts over the past 6 weeks or so and I found that every time I used this I found my skin feeling a bit uncomfortable. Now I seem to be through the worst of the breakout I will probably start reintroducing this a few times a week and build up tolerance to it again. I won’t be supporting The Ordinary/Deciem after I’ve used up what I have until Brandon has left the building so once this is gone I will search out an alternative.

Fragrance

Victoria’s Secret Rush Body Mist
This has been my main go-to most days and I’ve made good progress through this bottle, I’d now say that it’s about half as full as what it was when I first did this post about two months ago. I don’t love this by itself still – I find it a bit more generic than other VS fragrances, but it’s good for layering & just general day to day.

Victoria’s Secret Victoria Perfume
This cost me a lotta money a couple of years ago and I’m regretting I ever bought it, Ben talked me into this one at the airport instead of another one – it’s still almost brand new and I just don’t find myself reaching for it very often. It had been moved out of my “go-to” perfume selection but this is my next target to get finished up. I don’t think this will be an easy one to say so long to – as it’s a 100ml bottle that’s virtually full – but if I could see some progress on this, this year I’d be pleased!

Haircare

Schwarzkopf Got 2 B Rise N Shine Hairspray
I wrote a whole love letter to this hairspray, and our relationship has gone very sour since it’s been discontinued (just because I’m bitter). I genuinely can’t believe this has been discontinued – but I have found a very suitable replacement that’s working really well – so rather than savour the last bit that I was planning to hold on to for as long as possible I’m satisfied that I’ve found something that holds a curl just as well… without sticking to my throat.

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Genius Balm
i have way to many hair products in my drawer and this is one of my favourites, I think this is my third tube of this. It’s a heat protector, detangler, smoothing, de-frizzer all in one. Whilst I love it I’d like to get it out the way for a bit so that I can use up some other products which can get a look in and be used up.

Makeup

TheBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer
I keep saying I have a love hate relationship with this and it’s currently definitely in the hate stage. I feel like it’s not mixing that well with the Coverage foundation and they don’t blend together very well. This is another “when will this ever end” products, but there’s a fair bit of extra pan when I compare the last photo. Please be gone.

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation
I have a review of this pending so I won’t go too in-depth about this, but it’s currently the best colour match for me out of everything (except for my Kat Von D which I’m reserving for special occasions) in my foundation drawer. I’m wanting to get this finished up before it’s too pale for me going into Spring (if the snow ever stops coming).

The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer
This is nearly gone but I felt like I would do myself a disservice for not including it as it’s been the one I’ve been trying to use up all year but I never included it the last time around. I’m still working on my foundation/primer comparison post. I think I’ve got about a week left in this!

Colourpop No Filter Concealer
If you saw my review of this you’ll know that this has a huge problem with oxidisation – as I’ve let it settle in my drawer it’s become evident just how little product was in this tube which is motivation to use it up and get it gone, as it’s also taking up the most space out of all of my concealers. I would consider rebuying it as I do like the formula, but I have enough concealers for the forseeable.

Seventeen Wow Concealer
One to use up alongside the colour pop, this is a click up brush style concealer that’s really nice under the eyes. I’ve used this a handful of times since I bought it, but not enough but it’s due being finished off, especially as Seventeen will cease to exist before long!

Lord and Berry Magic Brow Pencil
I went a bit mad and included 3 brow products in my first spring use up. This is my favoured one at the moment for formula, i find that it stays quite sharp without being scratchy but the colour is a bit ashy, so I use this for the areas of precision and then fill in with something slightly darker. I like it so determined to use it up.

L’Oreal Brow Shaper
This is my back up for when the one above gets used up it’s a dual ended pencil that’s maybe a tad to dark for me but is still useable.

Absolute Eye Primer
I thought that I had managed to use up my whole stash of eye primers but in my reorganisation I’d discovered another. This is a really thin and watery formula which I don’t love – I find it really prone to creasing if it’s not set properly, which completely makes the point of a primer a waste! I’m determined to finish it up… or mostly finish it up before caving for Urban Decay.

100% Pure Lip Glaze in Velveteen
I mentioned finding this in my declutter video and thinking it would be a perfect candidate to be a “handbag lipstick” that’s always in my handbag and can be used through the day at any point, it’s a soft pink shade which goes with virtually every makeup look and is a comfortable formula too. It’s already been in my handbag for a few weeks and is proving to be a handy permanent addition, so I’m hopeful this can be used up pretty quickly.

Bodycare

The Body Shop Shea Sugar Body Scrub
I have a lot of body scrubs on the shelf at the moment and this is the only one which is open. I’d love to get one cleared up and gone. I like this and it leaves a nourishing oil behind as you rinse away, but one less thing to pack and move would be fantastic.

Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil
I mentioned last time around that I am dependant on Ben to help be use this up via back massages and I think I’ve only convinced him once since the last time around to give me one. How I’d love to see this gone!

So phew, that’s another bumper edition one of these – I’d love to see most of these gone by the beginning of June so I can pick out the next bunch of products to target for decluttering.

Have you tried any of these? What are you trying to use up at the moment?

The Velveteen lippie looks so close to being finished! I love reading these posts of yours, it’s kind of inspiring the rate you go through empties 🙂

It’s got a bit more than what I twisted out – but I’d guess I’m about halfway through it, I think it should be quite an easy one to finish up, it’s such a comfortable shade that goes with most looks it’s really good for on the go! Ah thanks Chanelle – at some point I’m going to finish up all these half used products and it will be much harder to go through them at the same rate (but that’s the goal!)

I feel the same about the balm. Like sometimes it’s perfect and other times it looked like a motor boated a pile of dirt.

Sometimes it’s so patchy looking on me and not much changes day to day – same brush, over same primer/foundation/powder combo – but some days it looks so awful!

I have been enjoying some skin care products from kiehl’s for a little while now. Would you say their undereye cream is very effective?
I have also been enjoying the Ordinary serum foundation. It’s very light and natural looking. xx

I don’t have super dry under eyes but I find it’s really good at changing the appearance of dark circles and it lasts forever – Ben and I have been using it for months every night, and I was using it for the best part of a year before that – it’s got a lot of product in such a small tube – a little goes a long way!
I have the serum foundation but I bought it in such a dark shade I haven’t managed to give it much of a wear test yet!

Yeah it’s hard to decide if you like a foundation if it’s not even the right shade. Luckily it’s not expensive. I will have to try the Kiehl’s undereye cream sometime. I have issues with dark circles too. x

You are smashing it rach! Absolutely love the photos in this one too, they feel so summery ❤️I’m trying to finish up the solar powder bronzer and I’m in the hate phase, I’m just sick of it! Xx

Do you know what is happening with The Ordinary/Deciem and Brandon? My usual online retailer announced a few weeks ago that they won’t be stocking The Ordinary/Deciem products anymore. Some people guessed that it was to do with stocking issues because of the high demand but I don’t feel that it is that simple…

Otherwise, great post – you are running through these products!!

I’ve got no idea but I don’t feel particularly comfortable supporting the brand at the moment – his crazy rants on Instagram and general unprofessional attitude is just too much for me!

      • March 30, 2018 / 8:14 pm

Brandon is a really intense character, I do agree. Ah, I follow them on Instagram but honestly never see the posts cos of the stupid algorithm, but judging by what you’re saying, it’s probably best not to!
