Ten Empties #6

I knew it wouldn’t be long until I hit the next ten empties, I could see a bunch of makeup product on the verge of their last use or two at the end of last week and within a few days I found myself almost at my next ten. This is an unusually heavy on the makeup front for an empties – with half of the products makeup!

Makeup

YSL The Shock Mascara (review)
I said in my review the test of this would be how long this ended up lasting and I’d say that it was around 2 months of it being the only one I had on rotation. Over the past few weeks sometimes it’s applied great and other times not that much and I’ve realised it’s because the formula has become a bit sticky and the bristles at points were starting to stick down – it was becoming more hassle than what it was worth so I’ve cracked out a new one. This was really black in pigment, didn’t budge and was a good all rounder with length, separation and volume.
Repurchase? Maybe – I would recommend if you like splurging on mascaras, but I’m more inclined to try and review new ones than repurchase

Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer (review)
This has had a few mentions over the past 6 months or so. I bought this as I love the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer and this one was really disappointing. I never find that concealers crease on me but this was so heavy feeling on the skin and needing the shit powdering out of it to get it to sit semi-nicely. The tone of this was also very yellow.
Repurchase? Yes I loved it…. Oh wait, that’s a big fat NO

MUA Luxe Bright & Lighten Eye Primer (review)
When I reviewed this I called this a good dupe for the Urban Decay Primer, and since I used them on and off at the same time at the tail end of last year I have realised I way prefer Urban Decay’s. This is a really good budget primer – one of the best that I’ve tried – but it’s not as good as Urban Decay. The formula is a lot thinner and I found that I used this all up much quicker than UD’s. If you’re in a pinch and need something that you can get your hands on the hughstreet (if like me there’s no UD near you!)
Repurchase? Unlikely

Freedom Pro Highlight in Ambient
Woo-hoo – another item I included in my use up. I’ve had this powder for a few years and it’s a really nice natural glowy powder that gives me that dewy type effect I can’t get from foundations because I am oily. This is the most natural one from this range and I’ve used the other shades up in the past – I do really like them but the packaging lets them down for me, the lids are too delicate and snapping off. I have a lot of similar type products at the moment that I need to use up, but it’s one I’m pleased to see gone so I don’t have stray lids in my drawer.
Repurchase? Maybe

W7 Banana Dreams Loose Powder
I’ve had this for bloody ages and I’ve made effort to use up this chunky pot recently – I really don’t love loose powders because of how much space it takes up in my drawer. This was a very tinted yellow toned powder, more so than other Banana powders I have and have tried and it was very dark on the skin and wasn’t very brightening.
Repurchase? No

Haircare

Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Argan Oil of Morocco Conditioner
My friend Lora recommended these and I ended up using the conditioner entirely separately to the shampoo I’d ran out of conditioner. By itself it was nice, it had a thick texture and spread quite far on the hair when wet. I like the scent of this too – I didn’t find it too heavy. A good conditioner and I’d certainly try it again (and others from the range).
Repurchase? Maybe

Jungle Botanicals Forest Leaves Warming Treatment (review)
I loved this treatment – it was like a really nourishing hair mask and I found I got many more uses out of it than I would a hair mask in a pot – like the conditioner above it was a nice thick formula so it spread quite far. I’d buy again as part of a larger order from Wishtrend.
Repurchase? Maybe

Skincare

The Creme Shop Glow Up Sheet Mask (review)
The second of the three that I’ve tried from my set. Unfortunately these have done pretty much nothing for me other than strip my dignity from me.
Repurchase? No

Elemis Superfood Day Moisturiser (review)
This featured in my favourites – I really liked how this felt on the skin and I found it really effective. It is very strongly scented with natural botanicals (rosemary particularly) – but it was lovely on my skin overnight.
Repurchase? No, as I have enough moisturisers to keep me topped up for a long time!

Perfume

Liu-Jo Scent of Liu Jo (review)
This has been something I’ve talked about a good few times in my blog and featured on several disappointment lists. This has been my go-to perfume since the start of the year to use up as my everyday. Whilst I loved how this smelt when it first hit- but it just had no longevity on the skin.
Repurchase? No

Extras

Nutmeg Cotton Pad Squares
I’ve put this into my extras as I’ve already mentioned these once this year. This is my new favourite cotton pads and is much cheaper than my previous favourite alternative. I’m now well stocked on this… I shouldn’t be running out any time soon!

Colgate Total Original Care
Brief mention to this – definitely not my favourite toothpaste, but not awful either.

My total is now nearing £500 of used up products for this year, which is a bit nuts! You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here – My reorganisation in February is paying off now in leaps and the empties keep coming from the products I carefully plucked out and placed up to be used and it’s a constant tidal wave of items making it’s way to the bin – within a day of completing this section of ten items, I had another four ready for the next. if you would like to read the first posts in the series, you can click here to see what I already finished up this year.

Strip you of your dignity😂 you must have been in a sarcastic mood when you wrote this, a very sassy review 😂 xxx

When you’re a beauty blogger always trying out new things, it’s hard to commit to just one product and repurchase it over again lol. xx

    • March 27, 2018 / 10:21 am

Exactly – often when I say yes it’s “Yes, if I wasn’t a beauty blogger and would be trying something new to review” – other than perfumes and base products it’s rare I repurchase anything else!

      • March 28, 2018 / 8:25 am

Yeah same here! Do you ever get asked by people if you get free makeup sent to you and all your makeup is free? I always have to say no, I buy it myself lol…my bank account hates me! 😂 xx

        • March 28, 2018 / 9:19 am

My Mum assumes everything I get that’s new is now sent to me, or why do I need to buy anything as surely I can get everything free.
MUM IT DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT

          • March 29, 2018 / 6:16 am

Maybe it would be so much easier if we did let everything think we got free makeup lol. Then they won’t be so judgemental about how much money we spend or ummm cards that get charged 😂😂😂 But seriously, I’ve slowed down because I’m trying to be more adult-like haha! xx

I find that most YSL mascaras go sticky and make the bristles stick down. Not sure whether it’s their formula or the stopper in the tube getting clogged up x

    • March 27, 2018 / 10:20 am

Yes the Faux Cils one is a right sucker for doing that as well! Most mascaras go dry – they go sticky, it must be a particular ingredient IMO!

I love the shock, and I also never purchase sheet masks they just keep showing up in subscription boxes but I doubt I would ever reach out and buy them.

I have been wanting to try Bourjois foundations since forever. have been hearing so many good things about it.

  6. March 27, 2018 / 2:08 pm

Loose powders take FOREVER to finish! I’ve been working away at my Nars one for at least a year…
I just picked up a pack of The Creme Shop masks to try out – some people swear by them!
So crazy how much you’ve gone through and it’s only the first quarter of the year. Keep it up!

    • March 27, 2018 / 2:15 pm

They do take ages – I’ve had that loose powder for at least a year or so – I do use them heavily because I’m so oily but even so they take a bloody age and they’re such a space hog I don’t love buying them/having multiples!
I haven’t heard of the brand before, total TK Maxx stumble for me – I don’t know if I’d rush to try them again though, this one was just such a nothing mask for me!
The reorganisation and declutter proved so helpful for me to find and isolate products to use up – I’m hoping by the time we’re coming on packing up our house to move that the collection especially for body and haircare items will be well depleted, and it’s really motivating throwing things away more regularly too! Keeps the momentum feeling going!

Aah it’s a shame you didn’t like the Healthy Mix concealer, I find it works for me but the Radiance Reveal one didn’t. The Jungle Botanticals sounds good. I’m looking to try a new treatment/mask x

    • April 5, 2018 / 1:37 pm

Ahh man that sucks – the opposite way round – Radiance Reveal is one of my favourites I can’t wait to repurchase it when I’ve depleted my collection enough to warrant doing so!

I’ve heard really good things about the YSL mascara. I haven’t actually tried any of these products! But a lot sound really good. 🙂

Wow, that’s an impressive amount to have used up already this year! I’m trying to reorganise mine so I finish more but always seem to end up with months without any empties then suddenly a load in one go. I haven’t heard much about the MUA eye primer, a pity it doesn’t work as well or I’d probably have given it a go, I’m always on the look out for good high street eye primers and my Models Own one is getting low.

    • April 5, 2018 / 1:35 pm

I think that’s the way it always seems to go – I seem to be having such a tidal wave at the moment after organising as I managed to separate out so many of my “so close to empty” items that it’s made them so easy to cherry pick off and use up.
The MUA primer is good for a budget primer but it wasn’t as good as my Urban Decay as I first thought!

  10. March 28, 2018 / 12:02 am

Impressive empties post as always! You kinda make me want to tally up my empties for the year already and see how much it accumulates to so far, because £500 is kinda nuts, but hey, at least it’s going somewhere!

Had a total lol moment when you said the Creme Shop mask stripped you of your dignity. I have to admit, I’ve never been into those animated face masks either.

Have you tried much of Elemis at all? I’m quite keen to try a few products but I don’t really know where to start…

    • April 5, 2018 / 1:37 pm

I haven’t tried much from Elemis – its one of those brands I never know quite where to start with it. I think the fact that it’s not hugely available around me is an off-putting part about it.
At least that £500 is actually being put to use, that’s the way I’m having to think about it!

  11. March 29, 2018 / 10:34 am

I can’t get the Healthy Mix concealer to work either. I’ve tried it for spot conceal and under eyes, loose powder, press powder, primer… etc *LOL* You’re doing the spreadsheet thing too? I am too chicken to look at my stash like that.

    • March 29, 2018 / 10:45 am

Only for tracking empties, I was very curious to see what the the total value of stuff i has used up was by the end of the year – it’s almost at 500 already… *gulp* – I have to keep reminding myself that it’s not all things I’ve bought and is stuff I’ve been gifted by friends and family as well as PR! I might at the end separate off what was bought by me versus gifts to see total value spent by me

      • March 29, 2018 / 10:50 am

Gulp O_o It’s only March… I fear for you, Rachael. At the same time, I am too chicken to look at my own haha

        • March 29, 2018 / 10:58 am

In a way though it’s also good knowing that the money you’re spending isn’t going to waste and stuff is being used up. (At least that’s what I’m telling myself)
