A few months ago I mentioned when I did a round up of my favourite Podcasts a beauty one called Full Coverage. Thanks to said podcast I’ve discovered a few great new recommendations and have a list as long as both of my arms when it comes to needing to repurchase items once my stash is depleted. This particular product is one which has been mentioned a few times on the show and it’s one I’ve had on my list to try. So when M&S asked if I’d like to pick out some beauty products from their range this was top of my list to try.
Not only has this Sleep Cream had absolutely amazing reviews on the podcast – but the reviews on M&S’ website also show that it has a high rating, with an average star rating of 5. At one point last year this cream went out of stock and had a wait list of over 7,000 people – in a beauty market that’s never been more saturated that’s an impressive accolade for something that only launched a few months prior.
The Formula range is Marks and Sparks’ own-brand skincare line, there’s different sub-brands of that line e.g Daily, Biotech and Restore. This range of Absolute products is their most premium offering and a loot of the products seem to be targetted more towards your evening skincare routine. Whilst it comes in at the top end of skincare for M&S it’s at the middle of the road price point that’s in reach for most. This Sleep Cream comes in at £22.
As we know I always start with packaging. The outer cardboard packaging is purple and gold theme and features the products strapline – Skin looks like you’ve had 8 hours sleep (even when you haven’t). Something I’m definitely in need of.
The box is nice quality and is also in nice eye-catching colours that would stand out on the shelves. The packaging only continues to be impressive with a heavy glass jar in a deep purple, with a gold lid (which is plastic, but looks like tinted chrome) with the Formula logo emblazoned on top.
Now I knew nothing about this sleep cream’s texture prior to buying, which in hindsight was a risky move. I’m oily skinned and the thick heavy feeling of creams which make me feel greasy I find a struggle to enjoy because of the feeling – but I haven’t been disappointed or left not wanting to use this. It’s somewhere between a cream and a gel cream formula. So it has a lightness about it which means it absorbs into the skin easily whilst still providing a level of nourishment feeling. What I like about the fact about it feeling “not too heavy” is that if I’m at home for the day, I don’t have any quarms about putting on a layer of this to potter about the house in doing jobs without my skin feeling like it can’t breathe.
The cream contains peptides for anti-wrinkle & ageing properties, hyaluronic acid to moisturise & smooth and skin brightening actives to even pigmentation. A lot of the properties in this mask would be preventative for me so I’m not able to say that positively that – yes it reduces signs of wrinkles. When I wake up in the morning my skin feels plump & hydrated. There’s been points during the trial of this that my skin was just completely void of hydration – particularly during snow week. Every morning I felt like my skin was soft and more plumped up to the touch as well as visually.
I’ve been using this cream for a month now and apart from when I was very ill at the start of last week and was simply collapsing into bed in the evenings without a second thought to slathering anything onto my face (to which point, it was bloody noticeable the next days) – I’ve used it every night (and some days too!). I’d estimate I’m maybe a third of the way through this pot and that I will probably seeing it in my empties by the end of April/start of May. In a month I can already tell you it’s my new favourite night cream, and I’m already thinking about picking up my backup.
I wish I’d bought my Mum this for Mother’s Day to see what it did to a different skin demographic – seeing whether those peptides performed on fine lines that already existed rather than just preventative as I’m using now, all I know for now is this will be part of my skincare routine for the forseeable – whilst I do try at the end of this pot to mix in some other creams I need to use up back into my routine, I can’t see anything else replacing this at the top. Sorry Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – M&S Formula Absolute Sleep Cream took your top spot. I can’t wait to see how the exfoliator I have from the formula range performs.
