Ten Empties #4

I’m really going for it on these empties! It’ll be my last one of the month and makes it easy to track that I’ve managed to finish up 40 products in 2 months! I do know I will be getting to a point before long that all those part started products will be at their end and I will be starting afresh with a lot of new items, but for now it’s really motivating to see the progress that’s been made.

When I’ve been featuring products going into my empties on my stories, I get a lot of questions as to how I finish stuff so quickly. So 1) a lot of this stuff is what is part-started it’s not like I’m freshly cracking stuff open and 2) my biggest tip is going through your collection, picking out a bunch of stuff that you want to use up and keeping them closer to hand, whether that’s skincare you will be more likely to use at night and placing it on your bedside table will help you naturally pick it up. I also try to select having some things as your “everyday” that bronzer might not be your favourite but if you can use it for 4-5 days a week you will start seeing real progress in using it up. I find flitting between so many products just means that nothing ever gets finished.

This empties is a bit… boring, it’s a lot of the every day basics – but the basics are an important part of the routine.

Skincare

Bee Good Honey and Wild Mint Cleansing Water
I was going to review this and I never really got around to it. I got a bottle of this about a year ago in my Look Incredible box and I found that the product kept going mouldy around the cap, within a few days (even without using it!). I contacted the company and reported the batch number as probably faulty and they sent me out another one as a thank you for reporting. I liked this but I didn’t love this, it was quite intense on the eye-balls though and just worked out better on the skin.

Yes to Tomatoes Clear Skin Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes
I was really intrigued by this, I loved the Yes To Cucumber wipes in the past before they started making my skin really red when they changed the formula, but I was intrigued about these. First they were black which was different, but they just weren’t very wet, the charcoal wipe felt kind of scratchier material than their normal wipes and I found myself really having to rub them into my skin because they were so dry, the combination of the dry and the scratchiness together made my skin sore.

Bodycare

Lancome La Nuit Tresor Shower Gel
My current favourite perfume came with a shower gel, and I decided to place it straight into my shower. This wasn’t scented exactly the same as the perfume, it smelt like it was the perfume mixed with something else. But it was nice to use, I just wouldn’t rebuy it.

Sugar Baby Vita Skin Slim-ulate Coconut and Coffee Body Scrub (review)
This took me way too long to finish up, I had way too many scrubs on the go at the same time. I really like coffee scrubs and I picked this up discounted in Superdrug at the tail end of the summer. I cracked this open in November and after deciding to move all other scrubs out of the shower (there goes that technique), it was an easy one to finish up. This range describes itself as being a range which tackles cellulite – I don’t really have any cellulite to have tested that theory, but as a coffee scrub it was okay – I’ve found others I like more. I have another one from the range (which I doubt is really going to be any different to this one, to circle in next.

Mitchum Ultimate Shower Fresh Deodorant
This is my favourite deodorant, it’s a really soft cream which twists up and comes through the holes. I like the shower fresh scent as it’s not overly powdery/floral – it’s not unscented but it’s just a nice fresh scent. It’s been in my empties a lot over the past few years.
Repurchase? Yes, but I have a few I’m trying to finish up first

Mitchum Advanced Control Powder Fresh
I bought this in lieu of being able to get the other one when I needed some when I went away and accidentally missed packing my deodorant. This is pretty much as effective as the other one for me, but I do not like the application as much, that plastic edge is really sharp and you’re easily able to catch yourself on and it’s not very comfortable. I would buy it again if I was in a pinch and really needed it and the other wasn’t available, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

Makeup

Collection Primed & Ready Primer (review)
My friend Sophie passed this on after she found it too drying for her – I was intrigued because drying and oiliness is something I tend to really like. I didn’t find it drying at all. If anything I found it quite greasy feeling on my skin. I managed to finish it up by using it as my Monday – Friday primer for the last month or so and managed to finish it up. I didn’t really like anything about it, my makeup didn’t really apply any nicer, look any nicer or look any better. Overall a bit of a dud.

YSL Faux Cils Mascara (review)
I revisited this as it was a favourite as a teenager to see if it was as good as I remembered. I liked this I found it added decent volume and a bit of length but over the past ten years since I’d used it last I’ve definitely found better mascaras that work for me. It was fun to revisit, but I won’t be rushing back to it as a staple any time soon.
Repurchase? Maybe, but unlikely

Haircare

Sukin Purifying Shampoo
I got this in an advent calendar. I used it as a clarifying shampoo once a week, whilst it wasn’t strictly clarifying I had been very careful what shampoos I was using and when to stop my blue dye fading as fast. This was okay but I don’t think I could have coped with his more than once a week as I found it pretty drying, I always double shampoo thanks to really greasy hair and I could only use this out of one of two shampoos other my hair would be quite difficult to manage. I’ve tried other items from Sukin in the past I’ve gotten along with much better.

Tresemme Instant Fresh Dry Shampoo
I finally tried this, it was pretty much the last mainstream brand from the drugstore that I had been yet to try. This had been recommended to me a few times and I thought it was finally time to try it. This didn’t do much for me, whilst it didn’t leave a white cast it felt like more of a token gesture for making it look and feel clean.

Extras

Eco-Boutique Shampoo Samples
If you’ve read my last few empties you’ll know I’ve used up a lot of these recently as brush cleansers. I think I have a couple more left (I thought I’d finished them in my last empties, but I found some more) and I am determined to get these all finished up and gone if it’s the last thing I did.

Stila Smudge Stick Eyeliner in Moray
This wouldn’t normally be classed as an extra, but I decided to try and finish up this really dark olive green eyeliner that I’ve had for a few years – I think this was my first ever Birchbox so probably 3/4 years, but when I cracked it open this week I discovered it had all dried up. I’m guessing at some point this may have been sitting with it’s cap not properly clicked on and it now doesn’t have any colour transfer at all. I tried twisting and snapping it off to get to a bit that wasn’t dry but it was dried up the whole way through, so it’s being decluttered which is a shame as it was a gorgeous colour.

I think it will be longer than a week this time around until my next empties, I’m starting with a lot of stuff which is either new or a lot more full. You can peek at my 2018 empties spreadsheet at any time by clicking here – these will likely be updated as the empties post goes up. Or if you would like to read the first two posts in the series, you can click here to see what I already finished up this year.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and what your thoughts were.

Mitchum is my holy grail deodorant too but I like the rollerball moreso than the cream one – Cant imagine using anything else anymore..! xx

You don’t have cellulite?!!?! You lucky, lucky girl! I’m surprised you didn’t like the Tressemé Dry Shampoo; I love the way it smells and it’s a lot lighter than other dry shampoos. With that being said, it isn’t as “dry” as others so I can see why you may not dig it in comparison. Cheers to saving money and anti-hoarding! I need to follow suit!

Geez, I feel like you JUST posted one of these? 😛
Eh “boring” items are the most important ones since they’re the core of your routine.
But most of these are “no” to repurchasing… too bad!

I didn’t find this empties boring at all. I quite like seeing thoughts on basic, everyday bits😊 I use Mitchum but the rollerball version x

Just putting it out there but I have this weird thing with roll-on deodorant. I just don’t get it…. I also feel like it doesn’t work as well as a spray… Maybe its in my head but they freak me out 🙂 xxx

I find roll ons way more effective, I decided to minimise the amount of cfcs I was contributing to the world a few years ago and cut out spray deodorants and haven’t looked back!

There’s a thought! I never thought of CFCS…. Im also now on the band wagon with straws! Im also thinking of getting a reusable coffee cup…. Every little helps 🙂 May have to give roll on another bash xx

The only beauty product I now use is hairspray that’s ‘bad’ – because there’s not really another way around getting a light spritz! Every little does help – I need to get a reusable straw for my handbag – I only really use them out and about.

You will be so happy to hear I have converted over to roll on 🙂 I’m actually finding it more effective which was such a pleasant surprise!
I never thought of one for the handbag, great tip!! xx

Yay! I had the same thoughts when I switched over a few years ago – but I find it way better! Xx
