Current Favourites – Spring 2018

Favourites posts are few and far between for me, true favourites don’t swap themselves in and out very often so I tend to only talk about the products which end up becoming a favourite staple in my routine. My last current favourites was in December… 2016 (other than my favourites of 2017). So it seemed well overdue to do a post as when I re-organised my vanity I realised there was a lot of stuff I have currently been loving.

Zoeva Travel Mirror
I bought this a few months back after years of hotel/b&b mirror situations always being unreliable and often disappointing. I’ve finally been away from home for a few weekends since I bought it and this is a really welcome addition to my travel get up. I hate holding palettes for trying to do makeup, or finding a way to position it so it stands itself up. This slips into my makeup bag, folds itself out with an adjustable prop on the bottom which allows for creating perfect positioning. Money well spent and it wasn’t too expensive either!

Lancome La Nuit Tresor Perfume (review)
I think if you read my review of this perfume you’ll know what a deep love affair I have been having with it. I’ve genuinely had to put this away from all my other perfumes as I can’t stop myself from using it if it’s within arms reach. This is rich sweet gourmand perfume that lasts all day, and even into days that follow if it’s on a scarf etc. I almost bought a backup of this when I spotted it on sale in a Christmas set and decided to put it down and be good!

YSL The Shock Mascara (review)
This mascara is nearly at the end of it’s shelf life as it’s starting to get really clumpy if you don’t keep working it through the lashes, combing, combing and combing through again and for that reason I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it – I’m about a month in to using it and it’s nearly done. But that aside I really love the volume, dark pigment and length that this gives the lashes if I put all of that aside. Do I think there’s better for the price? Yes – but I am still really loving it none the less.

Cabella Vegas Pigment
A few months ago I covered an event from beauty boutique Cabella which is in Nottingham. I ordered some of their pigments on the day and haven’t really used them as much as I should have done. Over the past month though I decided I wanted to to a gold glittery eye and one that was full blown glitter, so I pulled this out and have been pulling it out at every available opportunity since. It looks gorgeous layered over a gold shadow with Too Faced Glitter Glue Primer. If you’re interested in seeing how this looks on, it’s under the Good Makeup Day highlights on my Instastories as a video, but it’s also featured below just peeking out!

Illamasqua Beyond Powder Highlighter in OMG
This highlighter was used on me on my wedding day by the makeup artist and it was one I put on my list and picked up not long after. Because I have been concentrating on using up so many other highlighters I’ve barely used it so far but since the end of December it’s been one I’ve reached for a lot. In the day time this is a pretty soft sheer peachy gold tone that blends and compliments the skin well, at night when light hits it this transforms and comes alive. See screenshot from Instastories below as I haven’t had chance to review this yet!

Jeffree Star Beauty Killer (review)
I can’t stop coming back to this palette. The mattes in this are just perfection and even if I use no other shades I often come into this palette for three of the shades, Vanity, Courtney and China White. An honorable mention goes to the Androgyny palette which I’m still trialling and testing out, the mattes in it are equally as good. But I can’t see myself stopping using the beauty killer palette any time soon. I wish J* made a palette of neutral mattes that I could pair with things like my magnificent metals – something like the Urban Decay naked basics, but better because his matte formula is ten times better than Urban Decay’s.

MAC Mystical Lipstick
I wish this wasn’t a favourite, this was a limited edition item from the Alluring Aquatics collection in the past, as far as I’m aware it’s a shade that’s not been re-released. My lips have been really dry this January and this is such a gorgeous shade that pairs well with all makeup looks, I’ve found I’ve been reaching for it more and more often over the past few weeks.

Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo and Conditioner (review)
I reviewed this a good few months ago when I had deluxe samples of this through a beauty box. I immediately bought back ups and kept it stored for when my hair began to feel like it was in need of a cut, 3-4 months on I’m at that stage where I needed an extra boost. The other shampoo and conditioner I’ve been using from L’Oreal have really dried my hair out (more on those in an upcoming empties!) – they weren’t even that much cheaper than buying these! The difference in my hair in just a couple of uses is staggering – I purposefully keep this out of my shower so I don’t run through this too quickly and reach for it once a week and it gives my hair a real boost in condition. I’m debating splashing out for the huge salon size bottle of this I love it so much.

Aussie Miracle Hair Detangler
I mentioned in a past empties I’d found a hair detangler that was targeted at adults that actually seemed to be working and it was this one. I can finally drop the sickly sweet strawberry scents from L’Oreal and Schwarzkopf ranges and trade it for Aussies trademark scent. This works really well for me detangling my hair and again it was another saviour when my hair was feeling dry thanks to the L’Oreal Botanics range.

Primark Shadow Shields (review)
When I reviewed these I said I didn’t think they’d be the style of makeup that I would end up using all the time, but I’ve found myself really enjoying reaching for these. I covered these in full in my review that’s linked so I won’t talk about these too much, but totally recommend.

Morrison’s Baby Cotton Wool Square Pads
I really loved the Sainsbury’s Boutique Pads, they were premium but worth it for the size, shape and quality. I much prefer square shapes but they’re quite far between, they recently changed the shape to an Oval and it wasn’t a shape I was on board with. I requested Ben picked me up a pack from the Morrison’s as I’d ran out and he came back with these. They’re not identical to the boutique ones, but they don’t shed and they’re a square shape. Best thing is, they are 60p instead of £2.20ish. I’ve stocked up on several packets of these!

Elemis Superfood Moisturiser
This has been my go to evening moisturiser for the past few weeks after being sent this deluxe sample to try out. It’s quite a thick feeling cream, the scent of which is dead on for Sunday Riley’s Luna Oil! But it’s lovely and adds a lot of moisture back into the skin. I also really love the packaging of the full size of this and I’d consider buying it if I didn’t have a million face moisturisers to get through. If you’re in the market for one, this is one worth trying out.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream
Both Ben and I have been having to many late nights and this is the perfect eye cream for us both to stop the eye bags creeping in on the morning. It’s light, moisturising and brightening and makes such a difference to us looking semi-alive.

Glamglow Thirsty Mud (review)
Last but by no means least is this gem from Glamglow. This for me doesn’t work as a quick 15 minute fix, but applied overnight as a night mask it recovers my skin perfectly. My skin has been dehydrated and had some patches of dryness thanks to recovering spots. My skin always feels softer, looks plumper and dry patches nearly completely eradicated my morning. It’s left me impressed.

So there it is – the products which I’m currently loving. What are your standout products at the moment? Let me know in the comments!

Mystical looks like a beautiful lipstick! The gold pigment certainly packs a sparkly punch and it works so well with that highlighter 🙂 The Elemis moisturiser sounds lovely x

The Cabella pigment looks lovely! Also for some reason I have to use square cotton pads too! Bigger surface area and quicker to use I think. I use the Body Shop ones but I’ll look in Morrisons as they’re much cheaper! X

I’ve never seen body shop ones! Yes quicker to use and less wasteful, those little rounds I always seem to end up using 3 or 4 sat a time and one square one usually suffices!

I didn’t know the body shop did cotton pads! I find rounds so wasteful I use one square one at a time but rounds I tend to use 3-4 of them! Morrison’s are the most affordable ones I’ve found and they don’t shed!

The Aussie detangler sounds amazing! My hair is long and gets knotty so easily and I just never thought to get a detangler!

It’s worth the small investment – both times I’ve been away in the past month the mirror situation has been really impractical and it’s saved awkwardly doing my makeup in bad light/crap positions!

I definitely want to try the Aussie detangler and the Pureology shampoo and conditioner. My hair is always neglected. Great post!

I’ve thought about getting a travel mirror but I usually just end up using the mirror on my compact. I just hate the thought of lugging yet another item.

The Illamasqua Highlighter in OMG looks super pretty – is it a new product? I haven’t heard of it.

I still have my tube of MAC Mystical Lipstick too – I don’t use it too often but I should. I discovered that the Caitlyn Jenner x MAC collab lipstick, Finally Free, is a dead dupe. BUT, of course, that’s also LE. Check out Temptalia’s dupe list:

And yay! on the Kieh’s Midnight Recovery eye cream – I use it daily and it wears perfectly under concealer.

A lot of the ones I’ve looked at in the past have been really chunky this is light but sturdy and folds down so flat it’s not an inconvenience!
I think they’ve been out about two years? They’re called the beyond powders!
Ahh yes I remember from your finally free review, MAC so sneaky!
I’ve tried midnight recovery under my makeup and I do like it, I usually just take one eye cream when I travel and that’s the one I go for – I’m still making my way through the kiehls avocado one though and that’s definitely a day one for me!

You make me want to buy a Jeffree Star Palette right away! 🤩

Honestly you wouldn’t be disappointed I would be lost without mine, if I lost all of my palettes they would be the ones I would miss the most and need to replace first!
