Look Incredible – Standard Box February 2018 Review & Unboxing

I must admit I was a little disappointed when Look Incredible made the move to move to a bi-monthly subscription instead of monthly, fearing my monthly dose of beauty surprises. In the same breath however I was also excited to see what changes this would bring to the beauty box. Over the past few months it felt like it was on a steady decline as brands were going from high to low end and repeats started creeping in. I wanted to see whether it would give the box a bit more focus and that moving to a delivery every other month would give a rise in quality product again. The box arrived way earlier than usual which was a big positive, it was becoming two to two and a half weeks for a box to arrive, so 7 days in was a huge improvement.

As always for those who aren’t aware, Look Incredible is a premium beauty box subscription in three different tiers. There’s the standard tier which I’m on at £25 a month including 5 full size items which now arrives every other month, the deluxe tier at £35 a month which is generally 4-5 full size products, the brands tend to be *a bit* more premium. And a super deluxe box at £65 every 2 months – generally they show what is in this box so you can see what’s in before it arrives. This month felt like it’s quality of products was on an upward slope – however that’s not to say that the box wasn’t without it’s flaws.

Tarte Glowlight Luminising Wand – RRP £20.00
I’m really struggling to find any reviews about this product. It seems to have been discontinued and I believe from what I’ve read, was only available as part of a set. This is a gorgeous click pen liquid highlighter pen which has a pink hue. It reminds me of an amped up benefit High Beam or a liquid version of the Fenty Fire Crystal – it has a gorgeous pearly effect coupled with gorgeous iridescent pigments. I don’t normally love liquid/cream highlighters, but I can’t wait to give this one a try. The card suggests keeping this for on the go touch ups, which I do like the idea of.

Makeup Forever Aqua Liner in 06 (Iridesent Navy Blue) – RRP £17.00
Another product that was exciting to see! I love glitter eyeliners but I can find them quite a faf, this one has the flexibility and ease of a felt tip liner with the added bonus of glitter. This is a really pretty blackened navy with a subtle glitter. Makeup like this makes me excited to sit down, experiment and play!

Living Proof Style Extender Spray – RRP £13.00
I’ve had a mini sample of this before from Birchbox, and it was so small I struggled to define what it actually did and the spray on it was crap so it wasn’t applied how it was intended. I’ll happily trial this again – Living Proof is a brand I keep meaning to try more from. It’s rare that haircare is included in the box, in two years of subscription this is my second or third haircare item.

Velvet 59 My Fair Lashes Mascara – RRP £9.99
A repeat from the box for me. This came in one of my very first boxes in April 2016. This has such an odd shaped wand. At the time of receiving it I had lash extensions on permanently and ended up passing it on to my mum to try. Whilst it is tempting to try this because the wand is so unusual, my Mum wasn’t particularly impressed with it, and neither was I looking at her lashes.

Ciate Corrupted Neons Electronica Set – RRP £9.99
The second repeat product was this set… which I’ve already reviewed here – this came in the July 2016 edition of the box. Sadly whilst this was pretty pink neon on the nails these had terrible performance and bubbling issues. These were discontinued a long time ago and are quite an old product. I was however happy to see these the first time around before I’d tried them.

I’m a long-term subscriber to this box, and it was disappointing to see that two of the five items were repeats for me. Whilst I received both these items back in 2016 – it’s not really forgivable IMO boxes should be keeping a record, and unfortunately this is now the third time it’s happened. Whilst Look Incredible have offered to replace the items (and I have to send back the others…), I do feel like I’ve picked to replace isn’t that exciting and I’ve picked from a bunch of left overs. It does take away the excitement of getting a box through having to complain to get what you expected in the first place.

If I judged all of these items if I’d first received them I think I would have been really happy with this months edition, but the long term subscriber is disappointed. For my replacements I’ve picked a lipliner from theBalm and a Lancome dual ended brow pencil. I feel like I get caught in that “one more chance” loop towards the end of boxes, but one more repeat and I will either be upgrading my subscription to the premium one, or looking elsewhere.

What do you think of this month’s box?

The product selection would seem great if this was the first time receiving it but it would be a little disappointing if you were a long term subscriber. What has been your favourite box from them since you first subscribed??

Iā€™m always tempted to try these boxes out, I have my eye on a few stationary ones but the products inside would need to be worth the price paid out each month.

Ooh that’s tough – I think the box was definitely it’s hey-day in 2016 as it had higher quality brands, but this one is back to where it used to be so I’m hoping it will continue.
Completely agree, you have to feel like you get value out of a box!
